  1. It uses the down scan to do the mapping so I'm sure the width of the coverage depends on how deep the water is. The deeper the water the wider a path it records. Just go to the Quickdraw Contours and hit record. You need a SD memory card to record to and keep your speed under 10mph. I just bought the 73SV too but have not had it out on the water yet.
  2. I've caught a lot on chrome blade baits.
  3. So the only difference is, when you give up on the cast, you'll rip the bait in faster, so you can make another cast before a guy with a slower reel. If you'd have said it that way in the first place, it would have saved a lot of time.
  4. Are you automatically assuming that bass will always strike a faster moving bait more often then they will strike a slower moving bait? Come jerkbait fishing with me when the water is cold. You can make 10 times as many casts as I do, but you won't catch near as many smallmouth as I will.
  5. In my opinion, 17lb line on a medium light rod is too heavy. 6 to 10lb line would be plenty. Lighter line will cast better, and let your lures run deeper.
  6. Check out the bargain cave at Cabela's. The items change frequently and it seems the best deals are nearly always sold out by the time you see them. But there are often good deals to be had there.
  7. About the only good thing about the number of dams choking off our rivers is that they keep the carp from invading all our rivers. Most lakes are cut off from the rivers they inhabit so the chances of bighead carp wiping out bass fishing is pretty remote.
  8. Except for the size of the bass being caught, and the lack of walleyes, pike, muskies and smallmouth, there is a lot of resemblance to the "resorts" in the lakes regions of Wisconsin and Minnesota and Canada. A lot of them are disappearing as well.
  9. Tell us what a Florida fish camp is about.
  10. Do you use FC or braid on the jugs?
  11. The pros say what their sponsors tell them to say.
  12. If you'd asked the old guys that question back in the day and showed them the high speed reels of today, they would have asked a similar question. How do you catch fish moving the lure so fast? I think, most guys would catch more fish if they could slow down. A few lures need to be ripped, but there are many many baits that are most effective fished slowly.
  13. The big problem with rain pants is that unless your rain jacket is very long, there will be gaps between the bottom of the jacket and the tops of the pants where the rain will get in. As long as you never bend over, you'll be fine.
  14. So many guys are very concerned with having the lightest equipment they can find but then go buy large reels that weigh more than the smaller reels. I tend to go small with my spinning reels. It is true that the large spools slow down the amount of line twist you get, but I use nothing but braid so the line twist issue is not as big a problem.
  15. If I am allowed to quote from the Tackle Tour Fluorocarbon Showdown' "Strain or Deformity: Some materials can be placed under a specific, constant load or stress and then, bounce back or recover from that stress once the pressure is relieved. Monofilament is a good example of this. While it might be stretchy if held between your fingers and pulled, once you stop and let go it returns to its original length. Fluorocarbon does not share this ability. We found, after subjecting our test lines to a constant load of 3 pounds over a length of time just long enough to measure each samples' change in length and write this value down, all but one fluorocarbon product failed to recover fully from the stress and had permanent strain or deformation. The lone exception? Sunline Shooter FC." I would have liked to see the original poster on this thread compare the lines after they had been stretched to see if or how much the lines deformed. Also, I'd be interested to know if the same lines were stretched a second or third time, would the results be the same as the first time?
  16. So you are saying mono and FC lines have the same elastic properties?
  17. If you read any of the FC line tests done, you'd see that one of the traits of FC line is the fact that unlike mono, it does not go back to its original size after being stretched. And I'm not talking about line that was just stretched to its breaking point.
  18. Why are you calling this a myth? After you stretch FC, it does not return to is original shape. I don't know if you can say it reduces the break strength by a consistent amount, but it is not a myth.

  21. The way I like (and my wife does too) to do the shuttle when my wife is helping out is one of two ways. #1 Wife follows me to the take out point where she leaves her car. We drive to the put in point where I unload the boats and gear. She then drives my truck back to the take out where she leaves it and goes home in her car. That way, she does not have to wait for me to call at some unknown time to come pick me up. I get done with my float at whatever time that happens and my truck is already there waiting for me to load up. I don't have to wait for the wife to return. #2 Buddy and me drive to the put in point and unload. Buddy stays with the gear and I drive to the takeout where the wife is meeting me. I leave the truck, she drives me to the put in point and then she goes home. She's done and my truck is waiting for me to load up when I'm done with my float.
  22. On Google maps, you can measure the distance between any points. I often use it for just the thing you are looking for. If you are fishing, and floating, a VERY basic rule of thumb is about one mile an hour. But, some people fish much slower and some much faster and of course the amount of current and wind also have to be considered. My favorite river has a stretch about 6 miles long that I have floated many times. I've done it in 4 hours, and I've done it in 10.
  23. I've had the same trolling motor plug on my boat since 1988 and have never had one issue with it. Before I got an on board charger last year, I used to unplug the motor and plug in my charger in the same receptacle.
  24. If you look at the link I included in my post, there is a lot of information about who owns the rivers, what the U. S. definition of navigable what the laws are etc.
