  1. That should be required reading for anyone who fishes.
  2. There is no scientific evidence that says the full moon has any effect on the spawning behavior of black bass. Fishing for bass during the spawn is not my thing but the evidence says fishing for them at that time probably doesn't have much effect on the success of the spawn. However, If you can't see your feet or the bottom while wading, you will most likely walking through the beds and that cannot be a good thing.
  3. The New York State general fishing regulations state; "A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose." You might be careful when admitting to violating fishing regulations on an internet forum. You do have rules like that in New York.
  4. I have never been a guy who thinks color is all that important but that Red Eye Shad bait in Orange Craw has been the absolute best for me.
  5. This is the way I'd do it too. Win the lottery and still stay in campgrounds? Not me. I wouldn't get a tin boat either. A nice Ranger or a Bass Cat for me.
  6. There may be a good reason for having to lay a fish in the dirt. But please explain the situation where the bank angler has to take a picture of the fish in the dirt and post it online.
  7. I've often seen beds up to 2 weeks before the actual spawn takes place.
  8. Define "low stretch". Flouro also doesn't sink that fast. But no mono or FC line could ever really be called low stretch especially if compared to braid.
  9. Most probably, the bass will shake the lure and lose it. Or, worst case is the lure may block his throat and he may not be able to feed. You'll never know.
  10. If you like to take pictures of your catch when fishing alone, invest a couple of bucks in an inexpensive, small tripod like a gorilla pod. Set it up on the ground, a rock, a tree stump, wrap the legs on a tree branch or a fence. Set the timer, and take your shot. No need to lay the fish on the ground.
  11. How do you know they were fish eggs?
  12. I ordered line to go with the reel. I tried to cancel the line order but the line has been shipped. Great, I now will have a new spool of line but there is no reel to put it on. I really wasn't in the market for another reel, but you don't get $300 reels for $100 every day so I ordered it. I'll use the line eventually I guess.
  13. Don't bother trying to order. Even though the web site says they are in stock, they aren't. I ordered one two days ago and got a message today saying it was on backorder. I checked the web site again and it said the reel was in stock. I called customer service to ask why a reel that was in stock was back ordered and they told me my order had been cancelled because they were out of stock, the reel has been discontinued, and they will be getting no more in. I got no message telling me that. If I hadn't called, I still wouldn't know the reel was never going to come. They have an antiquated system that does not match actual inventory to what they offer online. You can even "check online availability" from the web page, but it means nothing because it apparently can take 5 days for the inventory people to update the online catalog. Ordering from Cabela's online store is a crapshoot because you never know if they actually have what they are selling.
  14. The guy was trying to sell Lews reels. Braid goes not cause reels to wear faster.
  15. The ice just went off the lakes around Minocqua on the 16th so I know the water temps there are nowhere near 50 yet.
  16. Longer rods can cast farther and the longer rod length gives you more leverage increasing the hook setting power. The trade off is less accurate casting, can be more difficult to fish in tight quarters and they can be harder to transport depending on you vehicle.
  17. If you can see them, they can see you. They probably turned away because they saw you.
  18. Fish the spot where rain water run off enters the pond.
  19. I came across some vintage St. Croix Premiers a few months ago. I contacted St. Croix and gave them the model #s. They told me the range of dates they were made and the retail price they sold for. You might be interested in that info on your Legend rod.
  20. On reservoirs where the water levels change a lot, logs and wood get loose and can become a serious hazard to navigation. That, plus the lakes are usually managed for electrical generation and water management first and the fisheries are not a priority.
  21. If you set the motor too deep, you may run the motor into the bottom sooner than you might like to. Raise the motor up, and the head may get in the way of your fishing.
  22. I'm sorry, but if you aren't catching anything on spinnerbaits, getting rid of the ones you have and replacing them isn't going to help. The problem is not the baits........
  23. Could be a banjo minnow. They made some with paddle tails.
  24. I used to fish them a lot through the weeds in Canada for pike. I tried various pork trailers but they all killed the action compared to a 4 inch grub. Where I was fishing them, the weed guard was essential. Had to sharpen the heck out of the hooks though.
  25. I use Senkos and similar baits because they sink. Even after you use them, stretch them or whatever, they still sink. If after you fish the ZinkerZ for a while the salt comes out and it starts to float, what good is it? I could never catch 200 fish on one because long before I hit 100, I'd get it snagged and break it off. I fish the Ned rig with TRD baits that float right out of the package and I don't have to cut them in half and screw around with them to get them to float.
