i suck at pitchin' with my baitcaster....
i had the same problem, I took alot of line off my spool that I was using to flip with, this made it so much better and the backlashes have almost stopped... Windy days with braid is always a head ache for me, but I deal with that part.

today's fishing trip
A buddy and I headed out this morning, got in the truck and wow 32 F out side... We head down to Burnt Cane lake here in AR. Get there and it is 28 F outside. Man it was cold, well the water was like chocalate milk, just nasty. I ended up grabbing just 1 bass that weight in at 2 lb 13 oz. Not a real bad day, nothing broke, all went fine. I caught the fish on shaky Head jig, with a 3x red w/red speckle finesse worm, sorry no picture, I let it go...

Is there such a thing as too much fishing?
Zel is right. Your mom is just worried, try finding a buddy to fish with and enjoy being with others, weather your fishing or playing sports or what ever. Make sure to have some MOM and DAD time, you will miss it if your not careful.

Line Problems?
The problem started last year. I hooked a nice bass and pow. the line snapped at the reel (sounded like a gun went off) This was 14 lb STREN mono line. This happen to me 2 times late last year. Well to make it worse, today I am out fishing a local pond from the bank, I casted a few times and looked at the reel and noticed the line was cut in the spool again... why? I am using 12 lb Flurocarbon line now.... Reel - Extreme 6:3:1 bait caster Rod - Extreme 6' 6" medium Heavy with a quick tip. Line - Vanish Flurocarbon 12lb I spooled the line tight with a damp towel running the line through it to get a tighter spool. Anyone know why this is happening, I have checked the reel for problems, but I can see any at this time. -MarlboroMan

Why pros don't use live bait?
i think using live bait would not be enough of a challenge. Thats one thing about bass fishing, the challenge.

KVD Lipless Crank?
Here is your answer : Question: Kevin, February in Alabama can very well have three days where the temperature's 55 or 60 degrees. If the area has two days of warm weather and no rain for two weeks, how will you fish, and how do you expect to catch bass under these conditions? VanDam: I'll be fishing much faster than I will if we have cold weather. I'll be fishing the spinner bait, the jerkbait and the lipless crankbait like Strike King's new Red Eye Shad. I'll be trying to cover a lot of water because the bass should be up on the flats and very active. Under these conditions, the more water I can cover in a day of fishing, the better my odds will be for winning. Lay Lake has plenty of water like this. So, I feel pretty confident that if we have that warm weather, I'll still be able to do well in the tournament, because I like to fish fast and I like to power fish. The real determining factor for these conditions will be if the bass are targeting shad as their primary prey species, or if they're still targeting crawfish on the bottom. The first thing I'll have to establish, if we get that stable water and warm weather conditions, is what food do the bass want to eat. Once I know that, then I can do a better job of lure selection, and I'll catch more fish.

I Need Advice!
find a good cheap jon boat... You don't need a motor, for that matter a trolling motor is not really needed. You could paddle, i done this for years before I got a boat with a motor on it. if you can't get a boat, I would get some good snake boots and fish all I can, just cause snakes are there doesn't mean there are no fish.

Horny Toads
I fished these last year in some lilly pads... I caught plenty of fish on them, but they tear up alot easier then the hollow frogs. If you have not tried to fish them in heavy cover you should try it, they worked nicely.
