  1. I couldn't help but pick up that same model for $79 as well
  2. The closest I've found to an all purpose perfect rod is my champion 734. If I'm ever going somewhere and don't really know what I'm gonna be throwing, that is the rod I grab. I've used it for -pitching jigs and trigs -open water frogs -shallow cranking squarebills/medium divers -large spooks/jitterbugs -c rigs/football jigs -magnum drop shots -spinnerbaits/chatterbaits.. And it handled them all amazingly. That doesn't stop me from buying new stuff though. Once the monkey gets you, he doesn't let you go lol
  3. Yea they are black in the lower blank with regular guides
  4. All the rods listed will do you fine. I would also throw on the mojo glass cranker in 7ft Mh. I used it for awhile and it was great with squarebills and medium divers as well as walking baits.
  5. The hawgtech guys do it the right way from products to customer service
  6. Depends on the application. Tip up, I prefer full grip for balance. Tip down, I can go either way. That's why it's great that some guys like dobyns and now the shimano crucial offer both options for most rods. Do you want balance or lightness?
  7. Basically a new revo toro beats an all new lineup from lews? I understand not giving it to the zillion as it is basically an upgraded tatula. Beats the new Stella? New conquest? Strange
  8. I picked up an optimus and it is awesome....braking system takes some getting used to as it is dual braking but you aren't able to adjust each seperately. Turning up the brakes turns up both the centrifugal and magnetic brakes at the same time
  9. The knobs are exact quantum knobs
  10. A shimano crucial at 79$ (my dicks has them) is a heck of a deal
  11. 13kp is ***. If the braking system isn't recessed, then alas I can't get it as it is exactly where I put my finger for many presentations. Oh well
  12. Is the brake dial on the zillion recessed or out like in the tatula? Also? How is the super duty 8:1 feel?
  13. Interesting, I thought the ike rods would be taking the place of the veritas. I wonder what price point the ike series will be in. Since i assume these veritas' will be in the $99 range, maybe the ike rods will fit in where the verdict was?
  14. It looks good especially for the price
  15. I'm jonesing for the new super duty. That thing will be one sweet reel
  16. Is this a new reel? I can find it on the academy website, not even daiwas site. Maybe a spoiler for the upcoming ICAST?
  17. Recessed brake dial means I can actually use these lol
  18. Picked up some speed spools for 66 AND I get a 20$ rebate. Some elite trebles for like a buck a pack as well. If you wait, dicks can give you some great great deals
  19. I don't see how people would have the gall to return a rod after 10 or more years of use lol. Maybe it is just me, but I couldn't. I have only ever had to use a warranty because of my stupidity. If a rod doesn't break In a year of good use, then the manufacturer has done a good job. Yes I understand that the warranty has been built into the rod BUT I look at it like this. I have several $300 rods. If those rods last me 10 years and break, that's 30 bucks a year and that is more than adequate for me.
  20. That's the seat I prefer. Ecs right?
  21. I agree. I understand that the need for a moderate action when using braid but to totally limit your rods around that concept is abit strange to me. Though I do applaud him for being so behind his line of rods. A fast series would certainly boost sales I'm sure.
  22. I wish they would give more detail on what gear he used lol
  23. I don't even know if I should answer this lol. I've been doing a lot of reservoir fishing here and since it all has to be done from a rowboat, shorter rods are a necessity. I've previously owned some zillion rods and found them to be lightweight, sensitive, and comfortable to use. I ended up getting the 6'9mh and 7m. I plan to use the medium with 12lb shooter for flukes, finesse jigs and and some all purpose stuff. The 6'9 is actually powerful enough to fish some heavier jigs, Texas rigs and even open water booyah pad crashers with 30lb braid. I will say that they are more powerful than their rating which had been stated before. In certain instances I prefer this as they are light and extremely powerful. Although the handles are thinner ala the 13 omens (which I did not like), the octopus reel seat actually makes this not an issue as I can hold the reel with a very open palm. Sensitivity wise, they are equal to the champion line IMO.
  24. Bought 2 as soon as they went on sale
