  1. If they are like the veritas then they will be broomstick like. The heavy action veritas I had barely had a bend with a 1oz jig on it.
  2. Well I use a zillion 50th anniversary which is high speed and holds a lot of line. A cheaper option would be the tatula, tournament mg, super duty or bb1 pro. All these have very large line capacities, have high speed options and are low profile
  3. He is sponsored by megabass regarding hard and soft baits, not rods and reels. That is why he used bps rods and reels but megabass hard baits
  4. I felt the review was fair. TT does deduct points for high priced gear so I feel it evens out. Several lower priced items have gotten great reviews such as the vendetta rod, *** rod, skeet victory reel, pinnacle rods, powell max etc so I do feel that they generally give lower priced stuff a fair shake. They have also been hard on higher end gear when it didn't live up such as the pixy spr and others. That being said, what most will view as all purpose workhorse isn't the general trend over there. On TT, if it isn't shimano or daiwa, you are already starting off on a negative foot. I used to talk of liking lews reels there and several times was almost laughed off the board even though the curado g and lexa were less than stellar compared to the lews reels they were going against.
  5. Ahem, I use a 705cb for that actually.
  6. Ahhhhh I gotcha. my mistake. I hope someone who has used both can chime in for you
  7. Strange. I use 12-14lb siege around rocks and haven't had an issue. You must be digging into some nasty stuff. I would say switch to a fluoro as the coating should help with your abrasion resistance. If the rocks are that bad, id say use seaguar abrazx or trilene 100% in 14lb but just know it is gonna have a good amount of memory. Invizx is a good line but has some stretch and less abrasion resistance. If you wanted the best of the best, sunline shooter, Toray superhard or seaguar tatsu but you are talking mucho cash for those
  8. A better comparison would be the veracity vs the micro magic as they are both at the $150 price point.
  9. Full cork makes it balance better. And it just looks better IMO
  10. Don't worry bud, I'm sure you've steered a few.
  11. Wait, you recommending a 7ft rod?
  12. The 736 is a beast of a frog rod. It's got the tip, balance and power for the heaviest of pad fishing. This was my frog rod until I picked up the new dx 746. You won't regret it of you do pick it up.
  13. The Japanese version color is cooler. Regarding speed, if the torque can hold up then there shouldn't be a problem. When you have a fast reel that feels impossible to crank under then u have an issue. I give Abu credit for continually trying to create specific reels for specific purposes. If it helps to create a more tuned in combo for a specific purpse, then so be it, all the better
  14. David Fritts who is a crankbait legend had input on the bb1 series and wanted the multi stop anti reverse for his cranking reel. His BPS series reels also had this feature I believe. His rationale is that the extra slack lets the fish inhale re bait better, kinda the same idea as using a glass rod. Initially, all the 5.1:1 ratio bb1's had multiple stop anti reverse. However, in the last few months, lews had relased 5.1:1 bb1s WITH an anti reverse bearing specifically model bb1z. Therefore you can choose a model either with or without this feature in the bb1 series.
  15. It's funny, when I first got into fishing, all I had were super fast reels except for cranking. Now I have several 6.1-6.5 gear ratios as they just seem to be better all purpose ESPECIALLY with moving baits. Topwaters can be fished just fine with that gear ratio. The issue is the treble hooks, not the speed of the reel. If it was all about speed, nobody would catch a crankbait fish lol
  16. If you aren't in the thick stuff you will be fine. Dean Rojas uses a MH because he uses his frog In weed free or open water more than anything.
  17. I've owned Speed spool Tournament mg Bb1 Tournament Tournament pro Super duty Team lews Team lews pro... Tournament pro would be my go to if I had to chose one model. Though the super duty would be my choice for anything heavy duty
  18. Pro qualifier or lews speed spool. The speed spool has a $20 rebate which makes it a steal
  19. Just picked up 3 for the reservoirs...great for the money
  20. Senko shows up every dobyns thread so it's expected at this point lol. I'm not a paid guy but love dobyns rods but I guess that means I can't stand up for them as I would just be a fanboy even though I have owned rods by a variety of companies. The logic in naming PAID pros under a rod brand as evidence of their preference is dubious at best. Especially when a guy like dean Rojas was a quantum pro for 15 years until this year. Or how terry scroggins won tournaments when sponsored by castaway or carrot sticks and hasn't won as a duckett guy. Or how brandon paluninick is sponsored by ABU, not duckett. Or how Velvick is consistently at the bottom of the bass standings and how during his last win he wasn't even using a duckett to chuck his swimbaits but a custom rod. I'm sure duckett are fine rods, but if you are going to spout an opinion and try to use evidence to back it up, at least make an attempt to have the evidence be compelling. Anyone can spout off names of pros who use a product, but without context, it doesn't make the point you want. As for the original topic, each has their supporters and detractors. The champion line is a great place to start if you want all purpose rods. Ducketts are cheaper and lighter. If u care about one over the other, choose along those lines
  21. I use a medium speed reel. Low gear ratios are for deeper cranks. When fishing a squarebill I want to go faster and you don't get as much drag from the lure because it isn't going as deep
  22. I believe bobby barrak of Bobby's perfect frog recommends the trilene knot. Since he is a master with heavy line and a frog, I believe it should work. I've recently started using the double Palomar knot I saw dean Rojas and ish Monroe use. That thing takes Pliers to tighten down and does not break
  23. Ha! What's sad is I've actually bought some "beater" gear for the Resevoirs here. Going out twice with my good stuff got me scared enough to buy some 7ft and under rods to fit in the 14ft rowboats better. *hangs head in shame*
