IFL mondays!
I, not having cable, am pumped about the IFL coming to network TV for the first time. MMA is awesome but i rarely get to see it so this is very nice to finally be able to... You cant get much more entertaining than full grown men beating the crap out of eachother! Who else is excited?

recycling terminated tackle
Recently I found a hard jerkbait in a tree with no bill. It looks like a yo-zuri of some sort. I simply took off the trebel hooks and split rings (still usable), and I made the lure a keychain pendant. Also, I have had a few old jigs with bad hooks, so I cut the hook off at the base of the lead and turned the head into a dropshot weight. What do you guys do with old or broken rods, reels or lures?

How would you fish it - part 1
I would drag a carolina rig near the docks, and use rattletraps over flats near channels. Probably use jigs near the rocks and the cypress trees. I like to line up with mudlines with a crankbait or spinnerbait, and make it run right down the line, making it swim in and out of the darker water like a baitfish. I would also bump spinnerbaits and crankbaits off of submerged logs to get some reaction strikes. If all else fails, I would cast my special dynamite crank bait into high percentage areas and force them out...

rain Rain RAIN!!!
We had a nice downpour here in Atlanta too. A very awesome thunderstorm this morning followed by random bouts of heavy rain all day. As a matter of fact, a nice heavy shower just ended...

So what now?
Actually I devoted a rod to hitting people a couple of years ago. This kid broke his rod, so I put a string and some beads on the end and made a nasty whip. People quickly learned not to prank me when i was sleepin! Maybe I should keep this one around for the dorms in august :...

gill hooked fish
Fish blood clots rather quicky, so mild bleeding from the gills is not always lethal to the fish. Usually by the time i have unhooked a bleding fish, the blood has begun to clot. I occasionaly harvest a dead or "mortaly wounded" bass, but i usually let them go to give them a chance. If they do die, they provide good food for tutles, birds, and other fish.

Just started bass fishing need help!
You may seem swamped with information and tactics, so just start simple. Get some basic but dependable lures, and go from there. When I first started about 10 years ago, I had a small rod, a jerkbait or two, some small inline spinners and some plastic worms. Once you get comfortable with the basics, move on to more in depth lures and techniques. There are also good books and videos about the basics of bass fishing. One thing that till helps me is to be very familiar the the fish's lifestyle and behavior patterns (anatomy, habitat, feeding methods, spawning rituals etc...). Basically just know your opponent. I would suggest checking out the videos Bigmouth and Bigmouth Forever. They do a great job of showing bass in their habitats and their behaviors. So heres an overview. -Familiarize yourself with your opponent (bass) -Read books/watch videos on tried and true bass basics -Use simple lures and tactics to begin with, then move to more complicated things Good luck, and keep at it!

I have kissed many different kinds of fish including catfish (very slimy),bluegill, chain pickerel, bass, baracuda , tuna, snapper (one almost locked his jaws on my lip),crappie and probably a few others. Wow i just realized how much i get around with these fish . I should probably cut down before I get a dirty reputaion. I just cant help it, they are so beautiful!

IM BAAACK!
My top 3 college picks right now are Eckerd College (FL), University of Tampa, and Coastal Carolina (SC). I want to major in marine biology so I'll still be with the fishies. Each school is near or on the ocean so there wll be plenty of fishing.

What was your strangest catch?
I have caught a few socks and a shoe. Every year i catch some large florida sofshell turtles as well. One that i will always remember is when i was reeling in a bluegill and a watersnake jumped out from some bushes and grabbed it. i swung it ashore and had to coax it to let go of the bluegill... My prize catch however, was in a lake near downtown Atlanta... I promise you I caught a condom on a rapala. I thought it was a pipe or another small sock, but no no it was a condom . A friend of mine caught a golden high heel in his lake once.

So what now?
Last week I was on a 3 day field trip for my oceanography class. While combing a beach for dead critters and shells, i found the bottom half of a fishing rod. after spending 30 minutes cleaning the sand out of the blank, and wiping it down, it isnt too bad of a rod. It was a 6' medim action graphite spinning rod and it has a cork handle and the reel seat is fine. I am reasonably sure that it was a 2 piece rod but i could be wrong. All I have left is 45 inches of it, and it has 2 guides. My question now is; what do i do with this thing? Could i find an upper replacement for it? Or should I turn it into do something else with it?

I was with my friend when he caught a 5 pound, 1-eyed largemouth... Was perfectly fine and healthy (Except for the 1 eye thing...).

fish sleep?
One thing I find very cool is parrotfish in the ocean. As the sun sets, they begin making a mucus cocoon around them to protect their scent from attracting predators as they sleep.

No bite after rain?
The quality of the fishing after a heavy rain partly depends on the body of water. In small ponds, a storm drastically changes the PH levels and temperature of the water, which can really turn bass off. In big lakes and resevoirs, it is not a big problem. The rising pressure as a front leaves can make them slower to bite as well.

Does anyone like Berkley PowerBaits or Frenzy
I have a frenzy crankbait that has caught bass, bowfin and some large florida gar. The finish is becoming chipped a little but that is mostly from gar teeth I think. I have caught a few bass on the frenzy popper as well.

Does anyone like Berkley PowerBaits or Frenzy
Woah easy there RW, you gonna write a book with all that info? ;D Save some typing room for the rest of us! But yea ive had success with power bait and frenzy products.

bass weren't hungry?
To add to Raul's comment, try to get a reaction strike out of the bass. Maybe use a buzzbait or someting loud to get a strike. Also try bumping your lures into cover, this often gets a hit from lethargic bass.

Fishing Falling Off!!! AHHH
There is your problem. When using plastics, remember, in order for the fish to be hooked you have to penetrate the lure enough for the hook to set firmly. This takes quite a bit more than just reeling them in. My guess is that some of them were not even really hooked if you are not setting the hook firmly. Remember, keep tension at all times and set the hook hard.
