Grand Lake help
Myself and some buddies are loading the boats up and heading to Grand Lake early summer for a weekend outing. It's been 30+ yrs since I fished there. We used to stay at Honey Creek resort and Harts Cove when I was a kid and I fished those places and that was it. Any advice on other places to stay and to fish would be appreciated. Thanks Gary

What do you do in the off-season?
I have to many other hobbies. Love to shoot and collect guns, collect ball cards, build models, but mostly woodworking. Started out with a scroll saw a few years back and now have a shop full woodworking tools. So if I ain't working or fishing,I'm usually in the woodshop.

Grandsons first fish
Took my 3 yr old grandson Lane out to a local farm pond awhile back and he caught his first fish. In fact he caught 3 decent bass. I had bought him a Zebco Dock Demon but he just couldn't get the hang of casting. So I would cast my bait caster and he reeled it in. Sorry bout that sideways pic. Not sure what happened there.

Wooden Lure book
Thanks Bob I'll check those out. But as far as why rely on a book I'm old fashioned and would much rather read a book then something on the internet .

- Wooden Lure book
Hmm wish I had thought of that....wait I did!! No luck in finding it. Smartass- Wooden Lure book
Awhile back I saw a book on how to make wooden lures. I had saved the name and author on my phone but lost it when my phone crashed. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. My other hobby is woodworking so I would like to make some of my own lures. Thanks Gary- S.E. Kansas mined land strip pits
I petonally have never had any luck in the trout pit. Now the other 2 that Sprocket mentioned have been really good to me. I'll try and remember to get a couple pit #'s and what roads they are on that I fish regularly. And I have the best luck using a 7" Tequila Sunrise powerbait worm rigged weightless. Just let it sink slowly and work it along the banks for best results. Good luck- South east strip pits in kansas
First off I want to apologize to the 2 people that pm'ed in early June. Haven't been on here in awhile. Now on to the question of what ones to fish. Personally I say stay out of the trout pit. You have to get a trout permit to fish it and in 5 yrs of fishing have not done well there at all. Some of the better ones imo are between 60th and 80th roads. These roads run north/south. It is best if you get a Mined Life map. Shows all of them. The pit where Big Brutus sits isn't that good either, once again,my opinion. My best luck comes from using a 7" Tequila Sunrise power bait worm weightless. Toss towards shore line and let it sink about 5 seconds. Then work it back to boat. This has produced alot of bass for me the past few years. So far this year I haven't caught anything to brag about. Biggest was close to 4lbs so far. I'll look at my map tomorrow and get a few pit numbers that I like to fish and post them.- Best Rod and Reel Combo on a Budget
I use the Abu Garcia Black Max combo and really like them. Only about $70 for the rod/reel combo.- Is it worth it to switch to bait cast?
First off let me say I own 2 Abu Garcia Black Max combos and love them. My spinning reel is also an Abu Garcia. They take some getting used to but I enjoy the bait casters most of the time. Now for the ones that think you catch more and bigger fish with bait casters. There is a local elder fisherman that fishes whenever he can. He catches bigger and more bass than anyone I know. His setup? A few old Daiwa spin cast reels on Eagle Claw poles. So as the old saying goes it's not the size of the worm but how ya wiggle it ;-) So if you want to add a bait caster to your arsenal go for it. Personally I don't think it will make anyone a better fisherman. Technic and learning the bass' habits where you fish will help more than anything in my opinion. Good luck.- Se Kansas Fishing Help
I fish primarily the strip pits and unless you know which ones to hit you may be disappointed. Some produce and some don't. Best tip I can give you of fishing there is try a 7" tequila sunrise Powerbait worm. Catch them on that when nothing else works. If you are interested in hitting them let me know and I will give the pit numbers that I have had best luck in.- The Pros & Cons- Whats Your Favorite Lure, Whats Not?
Favorite is Berkeley Powerbait 7" tequila sunrise worm. Worst is the frog. Can't seem to set the hook when I get a hit.- Tube Jigs In Kansas
I fish the strip pits in Cherokee county and have had no success with the tube. A Berkley 7" tequila sunrise worm has caught me a lot this spring. Also done well with Havoc Pit Boss.- Winter Sucks
Well I still go bass fishing in the winter if I feel like it.I don't go as often but I do go.I primarily fish the strip pits here in s.e. Kansas and there is a trout pit to fish as well. I also build models and woodworking for hobbies as well so winter is a good time for the model building.- More With Buddy, Or Not?
My brother in law is my fishing partner when I have one.I do enjoy going by myself tho just so I can do as I wish.As far as how many fish I catch it doesn't seem to matter if I am by myself or with him.I have have off days and on days both ways.- Were You A Natural, Or Start Like Me?
I started fishing with my dad when I was a wee Lil lad.Would've been early 70's. I was raised on a farm so we done a lot of pond fishing. As I got older we fished spring river and grand lake.Like others here I quit in my teens when I discovered girls and trucks.Started back up several years back when my youngest daughter wanted to learn the hobby.- Smallest Boat You Could Comfortably Stand In?
I just sold my 10' Jon boat because I didn't feel safe if I stood in it. I agree with Lund Explorer that if budget isn't a real concern get a Bass Tracker or similar boat.I recently bought a 16' Bass Tracker with trailer for $600.It needs a lot of work done but it will be cheaper than buying one that runs when done.Plus it makes a good winter project.- Winter Waiting
I'm with several others here that it don't get too cold IMO to fish.I live close to the strip pits in s.e. kansas and they don't freeze over.- 2014 Fall Strip Pitt Classic
I may be able to make it but the fishing just plain sucks at the pits this year.I have talked to guys who have fished them for years and they say this is one of the roughest years they have saw for bass fishing.I have been on vacation all this week and fished most everyday at the ts and have only caught basically bait.If others are in I am sure I can go.But if no one else is I will stay home and pkay in the shop all weekend.- Best All Around Crankbait Color
My 2 go to colors are firetiger and red.- 2014 Fall Strip Pitt Classic
There is 2 camp grounds in Columbus which is a few minutes from most pits. Also if ya plan on fishing the trout pit which is where the cabins are at ya have to have a trout stamp as well as regular fishing liscence. I may be in on this with my brother in law.We both live in Columbus so we dont have to travel.- Kansas Lakes And Reservoirs
Why is that?I live just minutes from the pits in southeast Ks and have fished them my whole life. - Wooden Lure book
