  1. Catt, first of all, they haven't moved Toledo Bend. It is still there, I was able to find my trailer on Yocum after three or four months absents. Looked a little different with all the grass, weeds, and bushes. With Dixie Youth All-Stars and travel ball over, I promised my twelve year old grandson and two of his friends ,I would take them to the lake for a week of some swimming, knee boarding, bream fishing, and trying to learn to ski! I was able to get away one night with my grandson for his first night bass fishing Monday July 7, between 7:30 pm to midnight. Fished main lake points at Wilson's creek in fifteen feet, both directions, to deep and then shallow, found them in shallow. With this being his first night fishing experience there where some bad moments, bird's nests, mosquitoes, can't see, I'm hungry, I need to pee, setting hook on grass bits, etc. Great learning experience for him. The young fella was not able to land one, but, hung in there like a trooper (proud papi). I was able to catch, 1 ea. 4 1/2 lber, 3 ea. 2lbers. Caught fish on Zoom 6" G-tail in Junebug, using 4/0 straight shank round bend hooks as recommended by the master for better hook ups. Worked!!!! Thanks. Great week with grandson and friends. Making many memories for them and especially for me. Mguidroz, I owe you a fishing trip, preferably at night, will be getting in touch with you
  2. Use split shot with wacky trick worm and fluke. Get better casting and control of bait.
  3. Catt, always taken with appreciation. My learning experience is short, being an inexperienced fisherman of bass at the age of 67. I remember your quote ,fishing is easy, catching is what is hard. Again Catt, thank you for doing what you do. It is speeding up the learning process for me.
  4. Lamham3, flip a coin, they are both fantastic reels. You are going to get both eventually.
  5. Catt, I finally made a trip, it had been since Feb 10 ,( missing the spawn). After a bout with A-Fib and having to spend a month training America's finest at Fort Polk ,I was able to get out with my brother ,who I don't see much. We fished on May 27,28,and 29th. It seems when he comes it is the worst weather and fishing conditions. In between thunder storms and windy condition we were able to get out for a few hours. Tried to get on main lake points from Kites to Boone"s Point on Louisiana side Caught 6 small fish for the three days, one hell of a fishing report.
  6. Pearl white zoom fluke hooked 1/3 from the tail (head down) looks like it is eating eggs.
  7. Watermelon red for all applications.
  8. That's a 10 lber man. Congrates on PB.
  9. This is not a kid call him "sir". I could do 350# in high school and I thought that was good.
  10. Welcome!
  11. Basseditor, you need to try some plastics next time.
  12. Academy's H2O does the trick for me.
  13. Looks good to me. Anyone would be proud of these selections.
  14. Seen 2 procrafts go through 4 motors, still solid as a rock . You can not go wrong with procraft. 1995 and 1996 models.
  15. DevilDog17, the Crucial is a great rod, been using them for years. I think the issue is with lure weight you plan to use. An all purpose rod that throws weightless worms and 3/4oz plus t-rig does not exist. I have 4 Crucial worm rods that run from ML, M, MH, and H. ML for throwing light jigs for saltwater , M for weightless flukes ,MH for 1/2 to 3/4 oz t-rig and H for punching 1 oz. or heavier craws. What type of fishing you do the most will determine which rod you need. I love my M, I fish mostly wtless flukes and 1/4 oz or < t-rig , it does great for me. Rods are tools to do a job , you would not use a ball peen hammer to do finish work on cabinets. Or use a small detail hammer to knock out a wall. Can not go wrong with shimano with its quality and over the counter warranty.
  16. Great , Fantic, what a job! Again Congrats.
  17. Nuffsaid, my advice for you is to get on BR thread by Catt." So you want to learn to fish Toledo Bend". Read the thread, it should answer some of your questions. Old school, I am 67 years old been fishing for 58 years and this thread helped me more than anything. I met Bill Dance before Bill Dance. Now that's old school.
  18. Need a little more weight try 1/4 oz see the difference.
  19. Fishing report for Feb. 19th and 20th. Fished prespawn conditions on grass spawning flats in Arnold and Yocum. weather conditions, windy 10 to 15mph , air temp 42 to 60, water temp 54 to 64 overcast most of the days. On 19th caught 5 bass with 3 keepers , largest about 3 1/2 lbs. Lures were split shot fluke, wacky worm, rattletraps (craw colors) and squarebill crankbait. On 20th caught 6 fish with 4 keepers. Fishing last week on 13th and 14th fished 20 to 1 foot of water ,water temps 52 to 56, fishing conditions were rough, did not do anything, had 5 fish with 1 keeper for both days. Threw tackle box nothing worked.
  20. Welcome, bloodandguts. You started off right by reading the complete thread. Good questions, you will get your answers here.
  21. Cut a few inches off of the trick worm works for me.
  22. Henry, did you learn anything ? Was it an enjoyable experience? You are very young to expect to much in your first tournament, if this was easy everyone could go out and catch fish. You need to put your time in to gain experience and knowledge. Fishing ain't easy!
