  1. Swing-jig head and slow roll it on the bottom.
  2. I super glue a piece of 30# mono long enough to curve over the hook and stick into the plastic behind it. I do this when I glue the bait to the jig head.
  3. BPS and Cabelas has Seaguar Red Label for $7.49 a spool. Pic credit to crowsie14 on TFF - just passing it on.
  4. I either reverse the line or do this:
  5. I don't own a Defiant but I do have a Maverick 8' HF swimbait rod that I love. It also has the Alps components and Winn Grips & performs way above it's $120.00 price point.
  6. Tatsu and don't look back. And if you go braid to leader, the cost is not that bad using 10-20ft at a time.
  7. Many years ago, I was fishing with guide Bill Fox (RIP) on Toledo Bend in February. I was a total noob to lipless cranks. Bill told me even in this cold water, I couldn't fish it fast enough. Of course, this was before high speed reels. So I experimented with 5 or 6 hard cranks, then I would rip it as hard as I could, then repeat. Like LuckyJ96 said, the strikes were brutal on that very brief pause. It still works today. I also use that same retrieve on jerk baits if the normal cadence is not working.
  8. At the top of the "budget" range, I would add a Bull Shad to the mix - $50 - $60.
  9. I like the idea but the hooks are not for me. I use Owner, Gammy or Hayabusa from a lot of big bait experience. I am actually looking for a hanger that rotates.
  10. Maybe some do. I have seen some saltwater swimbaits where the swivel part was embedded in lead. I assume that was made that way to provide ballast also. I just like the idea for swimbaits and am looking for options. Thanks for the response!
  11. I replace also unless I'm lucky enough to be in an active wolf pack. Then I'll quickly hit them with a file so I can get back out. I hate changing trebles. I"ve got the Texas Tackle pliers in both sizes but I guess I need more practice lol. Is there any reason why you cant use a high quality snap instead of split rings?
  12. I'm a big fan. In particular the Azuma Shaker Z lipless crankbait in Aztec this time of year. Also I like the extended flat nose on their crankbaits - they seem to get down quicker and stay down easier.
  13. Anybody have a source? Google was zero help. Maybe they're called something else? Thanks!
  14. Here is Tyler's reply from 6th Sense: "The Crush was our original medium/deep diving bait. The Cloud 9 is our updated version of the MD/DD series. The Cloud 9 is quicker to the bottom and stays there longer."
  15. Yeah, that's why I asked for confirmation from someone else. Nothing on their web site to differentiate.
  16. I asked this question at a tackle show & was told the Crush have rattles & the Cloud are silent. Maybe someone here can confirm this.
  17. Thanks for the quick response!
  18. Will Thompson's Water Seal work on Balsa? The reason I ask is I picked up 4 gallons and two, 3 ft Balsa 1.25" dowel rods at a liquidator for $10.00.
  19. 95% of the time I use my pole. If it is deeper than that, I have a 5 oz saltwater sinker on a big snap swivel that I place over my line. Also attached to the sinker is 50 ft of small diameter nylon rope. The 5 oz usually knocks it loose on the fall. If not, I can use the rope to pull it up & drop it again.
  20. Changes the rate of fall due to less bulk. I think they provide a little more action since they can pivot from the hook bend. Downside is I lose more trailers because of no keeper.
  21. This company has a 9" craw. http://www.creationbaits.com/9lizards9crawfish.html
  22. Crocs flip flops in the heat, Crocs Santa Cruz when warmer.
  23. $1.90 for 25 of these: http://www.lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Wire-Shafts/Looped-End-Wire-Shafts.html
  24. Get you a big 3-5 oz saltwater sinker & big snap or snap swivel. Place the snap over your line, then hook it to the sinker. Let 'er go! The big weight will usually knock the bait loose on the drop. If not, jig your rod tip a few times & it will usually knock it loose. Or you can tie the weight to a length of small diameter rope to pull the weight back up to drop it again. These are small things you can carry bank fishing.
