I had to clean the pour hole before every batch last night.

I had wondered about dealing with all of the trash in the pot. Now I wish I would have added another pound last night before shutting it down.

Do you remember the first time you ever fished? Although it has been over 25 years, I remember it with great detail. Dad had just bought our farm on the river. For one reason or another he decided to take me fishing. My parents had gotten me a small Snoopy rod & reel for my birthday, so that was all I had. Dad had a couple of old rigs he had used a few times before I came along. I remember walking through the overgrown fields down to the river and then along the 'gut' (high water overflow that formed a couple of islands during wet weather). We came to a pool that drained into the main river, but was now land-locked thanks to a low river level. I can't remember what baits we started with, but I do remember dad tearing a couple of rotten logs apart and finding a few dobsonflies (adult hellgrammites). I remember that I didn't catch a thing, but dad did catch a bluegill and a redeye. I remember just how big they looked to my young eyes. He cut a branch off a tree and used it as a 'stringer' to carry the fish. I was so proud when we got home and I handed my mom the fish. That wasn't the first fish I had ever eaten, but I remember it being the best tasting fish I've ever had. A few months later dad went out and bought me a 'real' rod & reel (Johnson Century combo that I still have), a tackle box, and a lot of lures (many of which I still have). That started a period of about 10 years where he and I fished almost weekly during the summer. Dad even bought a boat about a year later and we starting visiting a couple of small lakes a couple of times a month. We never caught a lot of fish, but we always had fun. Those early trips to the river or lake with dad inspired my fascination with all things water and my love for the outdoors. Thanks dad!

I've found FD's to be a little less sticky than RD's. Until last year I used only RD. Not for any particularly notable reason, just because I liked the way they looked. I was worried about the ability to adjust the drag when fighting a fish. My fears were unfounded. I now prefer FD reels.

I heard from a couple of people today that South Holston is running 50-55, so I'd say Cherokee is at least that. I've got a tournament there on 4/15, heading down week after next to do a little pre-fishing.

I've caught some small bass on big baits, but that does take the cake. ;D

I'm surprised the water is that warm. I wonder if Cherokee is that warm yet?

I've often thought about stowing a 2 piece rod in my golf bag when playing. Go out late in the evening, play a couple of holes, and spend the rest of the time fishing. My friend lives on a course, has an acre pond in front of his house. There are some goood fish in there. Course ponds should be quite productive as the water should be fertile (given course runoff).

You know, these photos aren't making the time pass any more quickly. IMO it is a sign of a good fishery when you find old fish like that dead. It is definitely the sign of a good body of water when they get that big.

Everything I have read (and from personal experience) indicates that amber or vermillion lenses are the best all-around lenses. I've used both and I tend to prefer a grey or smoke lens. The amber lens is a bit better on overcast days and low-light conditions. I just bought a pair of Ray-Bans and opted for the grey lens. I wanted a good all-purpose pair of glasses and grey lenses fit the bill.

You should have absolutely no problem finding a plug-in harness for that truck. The S-10 is a popular vehicle (or was). I can't repeat HPBB's suggestion enough. Tow only in third. Your gas mileage will suffer a bit, but it is better to pay a little extra at the pump than to buy a new trans every other year.

What model year is that OB? I've got an 89 DT 65 that runs like a top. I've given a lot of thought to buying a V when I buy another boat. I like the idea of having higher gunwales as well as a deeper interior. My only problem would be the draft of the boat. I run some shallow water at times and I would need something that would be able to run in a foot or so of water (without running aground, not running the motor).

Symetre 750. Has a great drag and decent line capacity. I paired mine with a 6'6 Fenwick Eagle GT L action and I can cast 1/16 and 1/32 oz. trout lures a mile.

Used my Lee Production Pot for the first time tonight (more on that in another thread). Melted about 1.5 pounds and poured 35 1/8 oz. jigs. So of course I've got a bit of lead left in the pot. What do you do in that situation? Leave it in the pot? Drain it? I left it in this time. I guess I'll find out if it gums up the works when I pour again in a week or so.

God love them, but all old people are not the best drivers. My grandfather drove until he was 89. The last two or three years he drove faster than he had ever drive in his life. Then you've got the opposite, where most of them slow down (which isn't a bad thing) and tend to make poor decisions.

It varies day by day. During periods of high traffic there might be 400-500 visitors. That will place a load on all but the biggest websites.

I've got some Iams cat food that doesn't match the date code, but it is the same type of food that has been recalled. Haven't fed my cat any of it since Mon or Tues, but he did throw up the morning after eating it. I do believe I'll be returning it to Wal Mart tomorrow.

Pet food recall has animal owners frantic Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro and store brands tied to kidney failure, deaths March 17: One of the largest makers of food for cats and dogs is recalling millions of containers of pet food after some animals became sick and some died. NBC's Peter Alexander reports. Updated: 1 hour, 33 minutes ago UNION, N.J. - Silviene Grzybowski became worried when her local pet store pulled the food she normally feeds her cat and posted an announcement saying it, and many other popular pet foods, had been recalled. Her cat, Smokey, hadn't been eating for days. The vet told us to buy her her favorite food, but I'm going to call the vet right now, Grzybowski said. Menu Foods, the Ontario, Canada-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold throughout North America under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway. An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said. Two other companies Nestle Purina PetCare Co. and Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. said Saturday that as a precaution they were voluntarily recalling some products made by Menu Foods. Many stores that sold the affected brands frantically pulled packages off shelves. Pet owners spot symptoms Ron Finegold of Boynton Beach, Fla., said he noticed about a week or so ago that his family's 3-year-old cat who was regularly fed a variety of Iams cat food had stopped eating and did not appear well. He quickly took the animal to the veterinarian, who determined she was in renal failure. He said he heard about the recall on the radio Friday night. He checked his trash, and found out he had given the cat some of the affected food. That's when I realized (the illness) had to be related, Finegold said. She won't be eating that stuff anymore. A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates was available from the Menu Foods Web site, http://www.menufoods.com/recall. The company also designated two phone numbers that pet owners could call for information (866) 463-6738 and (866) 895-2708 but callers kept the lines busy for much of Saturday. Menu Foods' chief executive and president Paul Henderson told the Associated Press on Friday that the company was still trying to figure out what happened. He said that the company had received an undisclosed number of owner complaints that dogs and cats were vomiting and suffering kidney failure after eating its products. He estimated that the recall would cost the company, which is mostly owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, an estimated Wheat supplier investigated Sarah Tuite, a company spokeswoman, has said the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, which has since been dropped for another source. Wheat gluten is a source of protein. Food and Drug Administration spokeswoman Julie Zawisza said it is still too early to determine what could have affected the food. Zawisza added that even if wheat gluten is the source, it doesn't necessarily mean the wheat gluten per se. It could be another substance associated with the wheat gluten. The recall covers the company's cuts and gravy style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches from Dec. 3 to March 6. In Omaha, Neb., Susan Balvanz said she sometimes feeds her five cats packets of sliced meat and gravy sold by Nutro Products, one of the brands affected. I've done so much research on pet food. It didn't surprise me but it scared me all the same, said Balvanz. She said her 9-year-old cat, Boots, was especially fond of the food but seemed to have lost its appetite in the last few days. At the Missouri Valley Veterinary Clinic in Bismarck, N.D., veterinarian Jacob Carlson has been referring worried pet owners to the Menu Foods web site. We've had a lot of calls, Carlson said, although none of his patients were sick. The company said it makes pet food for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies, including Procter & Gamble Co.
