  1. I had a friend recommend Owner hooks a couple of weeks ago, so I picked up some 3/0 and 4/0 the other day. Haven't had a chance to fish them yet, but man these things are sharp right out of the package. I thought Gamakatsu were sharp, but these Owners blow them out of the water. Having a serious hook dilemma... :-/
  2. They really are fine baits. But I too would be apprehensive if I fished waters with a healthy population of toothy fish.
  3. That rear seat just gets in the way in a secluded cove.
  4. If the lines are of similar diameter, double uni-knot.
  5. Feel like going back tonight? I can be there in less than 3 hours. Keep up the good work. Just makes me want to fish more.
  6. That reel handle is on the wrong side!
  7. Can't go wrong with either Eagle unit. I have a 320 on the bow of my boat and if I had to do it over again I would go with the 480.
  8. I was wondering if you sucked the head. ;D
  9. Cabelas and Bass Pro have seats for less than $100. One reason the butt seat on the bow never travels in the upright position. Quite lucky that the flying seat didn't hit someone's car.
  10. Better make it an even dozen... I've never had fresh crawfish. Had a few skanky ones from a grocery store once. Last time I was in LA I wanted to find a place to get some, but my traveling companions were only interested in staying on I-10. :'(
  11. I'll give you $50 for that piece of junk. 8-)
  12. Had I remembered it was 4/1, I might have made my wife think I was dead when she got home from work. Didn't remember until a couple of hours after she got home. :-/
  13. OK if I show up wearing my orange & white?

I'd get shot for wearing anything branded Mook.
  15. Believe me, I was. I felt that light tap and gave it a good hook set and then all hell broke loose. I didn't know what it was, but it was fighting like crazy and that it was a big fish. Boat traffic was somewhat heavy yesterday and the clay and sandy banks were staying pretty stirred up because of the wakes. Guess everything was in feeding mode. On another strange note, I was helping a guy load his boat and he said he had caught a 14 lb. catfish on a crankbait. That's another I don't understand! moment, eh? ;D
  16. Wife and I had planned on going to Cherokee Lake yesterday, got up a little late and didn't feel like driving two hours. So we hit Ft Patrick Henry Lake in Kingsport TN. My first time on the lake. Had a map and a little info. Started fishing some rock walls with my favorite jig (Strike King 3/16 oz Bitsy Jig in black/blue) and a Tiny Paca Craw in sapphire blue. Got a few light bites early, then nothing. Started fishing a sandy rocky bank. Getting a bite here or there, too slow on the set. Finally I stuck one. And it was a pig...would not come off the bottom. Tearing drag and I'm thinking I've got the state record in something. After a good 5 minute fight, I finally get my first look at the fish. Yep, a carp on a jig. ;D Right at 9 lbs. Fished 4 more hours, got a few light bites but nothing hooked. Ended up seeing A TON of carp on the banks. Had I some corn, stale bread, or shredded wheat, I could have caught a bunch. I was, however, as happy as a pig in...well, you get the picture.
  17. Sorry, but Jig-verted is a copyrighted term of Burley Bait & Tackle Inc. Please remit one dozen Strike King 3/16 oz. black/blue Bitsy Jigs as payment for the use of my phrase.
  18. Dude, take me with you!
  19. Go with the 55. I've got a 30 bow mount on my current boat and used a 30 transom on my old boat. I had a friend in a similar boat as the old one, only he had the biggest 12V transom mount that MK made. He would leave me sitting. As soon as I have the money I'm going to a 55 on the bow.
  20. I been wondering if you needed 200 lbs. of ballast in that boat. I'm up for a trip to the NRV any time.

Drain the tank and replace or clean the elements. As for the temperature, hot water rises and exits the tank at the top.
  22. You have to understand the mindset of a lot of anti-gunners. You also have to understand the mindset of a lot of hunters. For the former, it is all about dividing and conquering. If you can get a group of gun owners to turn and target a category of arms, then most of the battle is won. For the latter, quite a few people look down their noses at any firearm that isn't one of their chosen arm. The shotgunners don't care about the bolt gun guys. The bolt gun guys don't care about the AR15 crowd. Thus they have fallen into the trap of the anti-gun crowd. Banning a firearm from a hunting situation would be the first step. The so-called Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 accomplished nothing but the elimination of flash hiders and collapsable stocks. It was a strictly cosmetic ban. An 'assault weapon' is a firearm capable of select fire (auto, 3 rd burst). The only way to get full-auto fun is to submit yourself to a very thorough background check, pay a $200 tax to the BATFE, and then pay mega $$$$ for a gun that by law is over 20 years old (cannot buy any FA firearm made after 1986). The AR15 or AK that you can buy at your local gun shop is nothing but a semi-auto rifle. Just like your uncle's Remington 760 or your Ruger 10/22. An AR15 is a very accurate firearm. An AR10 is the same. Both make very good and practical hunting weapons. But that is not why I own them. I own them because I can.
  23. One would think that if you are purchasing a license online, you would be able to print at the point of sale. That is the way VA is. Not so with TN. Went to the TRWA site to buy & print my fishing license, seems they will mail it to me. If that isn't a load of BS, I don't know what is.
  24. If it were me, I'd go with the Zillion. I'm leery of magnesium framed reels.
