River is just starting to get back to a normal high level after last weekend's rain. Fish were barely biting Friday evening. I did coax this one to bite a 3/8 oz. Strike King Heavy Duty in black/blue. And look at the belly on this momma! Weighed one pound on the nose. Only bite I got on that jig. Usually fish a little lighter (1/8 or 3/16) bait, but the current made fishing even a 3/8 almost impossible. Had one fish chase the jig a couple of times, but no bite. Changed to this and I do believe it is the first fish I have ever caught on one of these infernal baits. Oh well, I'm still in search of the big bad mammajamma I caught last spring. I know there are a few 20"+ fish in this river, just a matter of finding them once the river goes back down a bit and warms up a couple of degrees.

If mine sets for more than a couple of weeks, it won't start without using the fast idle.

The sad thing is that it hasn't always been this way. I've been ordering from BPS since 1989. Worked all winter doing odd jobs, saved up enough money and ordered a tent and frame backpack. Since then I've spent God only knows how much money with them. Only in the last 6 months has the service gotten this bad. Bad enough that they charged me $12 for shipping via USPS Parcel Post. I'll be lucky to have it by Friday. I'm just in a very very ticked off mood.

I placed an order on 4/11 with BPS. Did it online as I could not get through on the phone due to 'staffing problems'. Got an email about an hour after I placed my order telling me that a couple of items that were listed as being in stock were instead on backorder (strike 1). Checked my BPS account on 4/16, showed the order as being shipped. Waited and waited this week, no order. Starting to panic as I need most of the stuff for my Varner trip next weekend. Just got an email from BPS saying that my order shipped TODAY!!!! > (strike 2) It takes 7-8 business days to throw a few bags of worms and chunks in a box, slap a shipping label on it, and throw it in a truck? I do believe I've placed my last order with BPS. It just isn't worth it. Not when I can place an order with Tackle Warehouse on Monday morning and have it by Friday (and I live all the way across the country). Cabelas usually has my orders to me within a week. Throw in their (rapidly becoming) terrible website (strike 3) and it all adds up to a very dissatified customer. I've got a BPS about 2 hours away, I guess I'll just have to go there when I need something that Cabelas or TW doesn't have.

The boat in the video has a jackplate and a wedge. It is a d**n nice boat. Riding in that thing one day makes me sick once I come back to my 18 year old Glasstream.

You might have a bad battery. I've had one of my G29 MAXX batteries for 3 years. It isn't unusual for me to get 10-12 hours of runtime running a 30 lb. thrust TM. If I'm out for 6-7 hours on an electric only lake, I'll usually have about 70% of the battery's capacity left. Extra windy days spent running into the wind or keeping the boat in one position into the wind will drain a bit more. The G29 MAXX is one of the best deals in batteries. FWIW, it isn't manufactured by Wal Mart but by Exide.

I've only been back in there twice. Caught two decent rainbows and a native. It is a good little hike back in there. Only problem is the threat of bears.

What format do you prefer? I haven't actually processed the footage, should only take me a few minutes.

Upstream or downstream of the old car bridge? I don't remember a bridge downstream, but I never went that far downriver from there. The rail bridge was much easier to get on when there were still rails and a bridge there. Walk out to the middle and climb down onto the middle support. I know Fenwick and Richwood well. Also some good fishing in Richwood up the north fork (past the lumber mill). Have you ever been up the Cranberry?

Cabela's and Tackle Warehouse have much better websites. At least they let you know if an item is in stock. Hell, I tried to call in an order around 2AM Friday morning (done it many times) and I got a recorded message saying that due to staffing problems, they were unable to take my call. Website has been slow to super-slow for the last three months.

A carp is enough fight when mouth-hooked. I wouldn't want to tangle with a snagged one. Couldn't be any worse than the foul-hooked sailfish I caught a few years ago.

Most of the muskies that I've seen had a reddish tint to their fins. Either that or it's just the nasty New River water.

What is 12 lb. diameter? Yo-Zuri Hybrid is 0.013". Berkley Vanish is 0.012". Silver Thread Flouro is 0.0118". Super Silver Thread 0.013". There isn't any standard there. Which is why it is best to compare diameters when comparing lines, not the manufacturer's rated strength.

12 lb or so. I try to match the diameters. If the braid is 0.012, I find a line that is 0.012.
