I fished in Plymouth, MA for a little bit today. My Lowrance reportd 67.x degrees while I was there. I agree with you Bill, enjoy it while it’s still here because Mother Nature’s gonna throw the switch and bass season turns to trout season right quick ....

I bought Vexilar’s Sonarphone before I got hooked on kayak fishing. It worked well marking depth and surface temperature from shore. I’s not HDI, but gets the job done nicely. It’s well built too. I bounced mine of hard stuff a couple times

A piece of electrical tape on your knot when you spool up the reel prevents line slip.

I don’t see why not. Try a DT16 or count a lipless down to the depth you want. This is my first fall hunting SMB in deep water. They’re still a mystery to me. I’m closing the Quabbin tomorrow in hope of some revenge after being shut out last week. I expect them deep so lipless and jigs are my opening salvo. If anyone else heads out there, I’ll have my VHF on channel 16.

Mid morning seems to be the shut off now. I fished Plymouth yesterday morning and did well until 10:00 when the lights went out. I stayed until 2:30 PM working shallow, deep, drops, while tossing lipless cranks, wacky Senkos, and a couple DT16’s without so much as a nip. Weather permitting, I’ll be back there tomorrow after work. Oh yeah, surface temps were 67.x at dawn and 68.x when I left.

We’ve got a couple weeks left in Bass season up here, so I’ll play with it some more. I’ll likely send it to DVT over the winter for some TLC.

I bought a 105 during TW’s big sale. I’ve had it out twice and experienced exactly what you posted. It’s spooled with 10# fluoro and sat on A 6’6” M/F Veritas and a 6’10” ML/F ***. I might move the fluoro to another reel and try braid. Like you, I really want to like this reel.

It must be the change to Fall patterns. I spent 6 hours @ Big South Pond and could’t find anything bigger than a dink, regardless of depth, bait, or retrieve. To beat all, there was another guy fishing there I’d talked to a few days ago. Again he was CRUSHING them within a couple hundred yards of me. Ken came over and we compared notes. He even offered to give me the red DT16 he was using. I didn’t accept but had a couple DT-16’s in other flavors. None panned out from 15 - 40’. Best of luck figuring out the fish down there, I might go back for another try, dunno yet.

Glad to see you settling in down there. I fished the Quabbin open to close the other day and came up empty for just the third time this year. Long story short, I went everywhere we caught fish, where Tom and I caught fish, where Tom & John caught fish Friday, and deep spots I marked fish on my Lowrance. Tossed the kitchen sink at them and just couldn't get a bite, not even trout or salmon.... If you come back next Summer, we'll have to take a trip out there so I can get revenge because I'm not likely getting back there before 15 October. Fishing a new spot in Plymouth tomorrow and Sawdy with Tom Friday. Have high expectations for Friday. I did pretty well the last couple times out there. I have a Pix68, JDM Brenious, and 103SV. All three toss Neds on a 1/10 oz. head nicely. I have two ML casting rods, a Kistler and *** that I mix and match the reels with. I can just about spool out the Brenious A++ for all.

Water pump would be second on the list if the thermostat opens. The backfilling pressure tells me the thermostat isn’t opening.

Take the thermostat out and put it on the stove in a saucepan of water and boil her up. You should see the thermostat open slowly when the water boils. If not, it’s your thermostat for sure. Good luck with it.

Got down the Cape late, having to repair my kayak cart's flat tire, and fished Hinckley's until dusk. I started off where Fishing Rhino told me he'd had a decent day. If it weren't for the perch, I'd have been shut out. Got back there and fished from dawn until dusk. I fished the entire place and ended up with two LMB, and three SMB, all between 2 1/2 and 3 pounds. Again if it weren't for the perch and pumpkinseed, it would have been a low numbers day. Wednesday's highlight was the 3-1 SMB I picked off the drop off next to the launch on the last cast of the day. I fished Sheep's Thursday AM, starting to the right of the launch, working the shoreline around to the two points that make up the large flat where I heard stories of great success. After four hours of throwing soft, hard, jigs, and blades at different depths all around the flats' drop offs, I'd not had so much as a strike, so I packed it in and headed for Plymouth where I figured I could do better. I launched in Plymouth mid afternoon, but didn't last long. The wind was howling so that my anchor was useless. I started with what I'd caught SMB on the last few trips but struck out. I moved to a lipless and DT crankbait and again got zilch. There was one other person there fishing a neon red crankbait and caught 5 SMB the first half hour I was there. He said he caught them at 30'. I had only silver and perch colored hard baits, tried a little more but packed it in after only one white perch. It was good enough I didn't get shut out. I'm fishing the Quabbin with a neighbor Monday. I'll have my VHF radio on channel 16.

Diawa Ardito... they make in M and MH. I have the M/F. It's typical Diawa quality. I've flown Jet Blue with it as carry on.

If you have a volt meter check the 20V battery's voltage across the two terminals. Also check your fishfinder's specs., which is likely to have an operating range of 11 to 15/17 volts. If your fully charged battery reads 17 or below, you should be good to go. As far as making the connection, send me a picture of the battery and I'll figure something out. If your 20V Dewalt is 18+ V, fall back and punt: get an AGM or LiOn motorcycle battery and a Pelican type case it'll fit in. I'll help you along from there. Good luck. Do you have any 12V power tools? I use my Milwaulkee M12 extended batteries to power my Hook-5. Each battery is light, gets me 5-6 hours and two batteries fit in a Pelican box that the Lowrance control head stays in when not in use. Just food for thought. Look forward to a Quabbin trip next Summer.

Had a good day hooking onto them, but keeping them ON the hook back to the kayak was a different story. Evan got three, including one about two pounds, and a couple getoffs. I had 5 unhook OTW back, including a couple really nice ones. Smallies are great acrobats and experts at unhooking themselves. They were all shallow, on the rocky flats, including the one way back by the southern cove. A hard candy Rage Tail Menace on a 3/16 oz. jig head was the bait of choice. There was a lot of surface traffic, but nobody wanted my perch Whopper Plopper. Paddling back to the beach I marked a LOT of big targets around 20' deep almost all the way across the 40' deep section. Makes me think of a swim bait on a MH or H rod. I'm heading to the Cape tomorrow after work, but have a couple appointments in Plymouth so I'll fish Plymouth until dusk and head to the Cape afterwards. I expect big things in Harwich this week. The weather forecast looks great. Water temps were surprisingly warm, 73.x - 74.x. It was nice to meet another BR member on the water. It'd be good to get a couple group trips before the bass go to sleep for the winter.
