  1. Academy customer service is pretty good, I had a lews speed spool crap out on me and exchanging it for a Shimano Caenan was very easy.
  2. I've decided that I am getting a Chronarch, absolutely positive of it. BUT.. I can't decide whether I should get the 200 size or the 50. I'm going to use it mainly as a jiggin' setup, with some part time duty casting superflukes when they're on bed because that seems to be my money bait. I don't really flip heavy cover so it'll be on a Med H rod fishing 1/4 to 3/4 oz jigs being the heaviest thing it ever sees. With all that being said, is the 50E a better choice for what I've described, I don't mind the size of my Curado 200E but is the smaller more palmable 50e worth the smaller spool and shorter handles? And is the smaller spool harder or easier to skip a jig with?
  3. Get a Chronarch or Curado 200 E series, the current Curado is not made in japan and I was close to buying one, but my research pushed me away, they just are not made well enough to cost 160 dollars.
  4. I am exited about all the replies, I am saving up my paychecks until I can snag a Chronarch 50e and a rod to go with it, I am most likely going to change my rotation a bit, leaving my Caenan with a very flexy medium for smaller cranks and light line, and my Curado 200E7 would be my "winch" setup so to speak fishing everything from spinners to deep divers to frogs. Leaving the Chronarch for my main fishing type being Jigs and Weightless superflukes. I'm trying to get ready for my School fishing team to start up with Tournaments again, and have enough rods by then to be able to spend less time changing lures and more time catching fish.
  5. I will have to try a fluke today on my MH BPS Matrix extreme rod. Med heavy with fast tip bought with swim jigs in mind. I am a 16 year old and right now I don't want to spend over 100 on a rod since they risk damage in the back of my truck when I'm pond hopping.
  6. I use baitcasters much more than spinning gear, using a fluke on spinning gear would totally change up one of my confidence baits. So I need a medium ? What does the F or X stand for? I'm new to all these expensive and specialized rods.
  7. The lakes I fish a lot of are not the best cranking or spinnerbait lakes from my experience, I use a lot of flukes, I'm looking at the Shimano Worm & Jig rod that I believe to be a medium heavy, it's the 99 dollar one. Would that be a good match? Or would a heavier rod be better for the weightless flukes?
  8. Either way, seems a bit sketchy, A Black max is a fairly usable cheap reel for 50..
  9. Wish I could see it, school wifi blocks nearly everything. I can get the factory replacement for 30.
  10. All seems to expensive for me, I appreciate it but can't justify spending that much on a handle.
  11. When did I look down on anyone? I would not enjoy that job at all I love the outdoors and some don't like the heat or cold but I don't mind it. If I had a silver spoon in my mouth I wouldn't have looked for a job and APPLIED at a grocery store. Nor would I be thinking about a Curado, I would just buy a Core. For me working inside a grocery store or in retail would be miserable. Some enjoy that.
  12. Seems like a backwards Idea to me, I use a little bit lighter leader so if it's hung up too bad I'll only lose a lure and 10" of line vs. A lure, and 20 feet of line. Might as well trash the whole spool, today I lose big time line setting the hook on a hog that said nope, and had to splice the last 75 yards of Floro I had in my tacklebox for leaders onto the mono I was using, the fact that I was casting heavy KVD Ratl traps with wind at my back made it kind of odd seeing the blue colored stren under the floro when I made a long cast.
  13. All I meant is I don't know any 16 year olds making much more than Minimum wage without working for family or whatever. I'm happy I don't work at a grocery store or some crappy job.. But my dad worked as salesman at a Fishing/Hunting store growing up so I'll never have it as awesome as he did. He was 17 in charge of what to order who to order it from what's gonna get bit and such so he got some freebies when the reps came around.
  14. Ok I found the factory replacement, but with that being discovered are there any better options?
  15. The grips on my Curado 200E7 have a little wobble on the handle, this is not the norm for Shimano reels and It just bothers me a bit, is there a way to either replace the factory handle or get an aftermarket handle?
  16. 7.25 an hour is what every honestly employed 16 year old usually makes. But I don't bag groceries or ask someone if they want fries, working at a golf course is pretty stellar to me, rinse off carts, ride around in a range cart. Pretty cool to me. And I think it's stellar. P.S. I'm 16, if the fact that I think my job is pretty cool means I need to grow up then I don't want to.
  17. Good, now you have a 13 dollar reel that's worth 50, and can buy a little better rod. It's not worth fixing.
  18. I would recommend Stren 12lb to learn with, it's relatively cheap mono and if I use mono that's what I use because it doesn't get the crunchy feeling other mono lines give me, also, when you learn to use it well and want Florocarbon, to save money learn to tie lines together and spool 3/8 mono and the rest floro. saves money when you mess up.
  19. This is where the fact that I have a pretty stellar job and am gonna be working a bunch anyways, I just got hired at a golf course (I'm a better golfer than a fisherman) and I don't really mind working, to me the Chronarch is worth another 7 hours or so, and if my paycheck is short of the Chronarch by 50 bucks or so my dad will cover it and let me repay him the next check. I am absolutely set on golf stuff with 2 years of investment into a high end bag setup, I was given a sweet ass truck that needs nothing, and I spend pretty much every penny on fishing anyway. When I need tackle my dad lets me dig into his "pro shop" and select a few things to use. I have it pretty set but I am building my rod and reel collection now. Then comes the whole "saving for a boat" idea that will take over a year.
  20. Good to read, the allure of the Chronarch to me is in the fact that its almost the same as my Curado E and it has to be the best looking reel on the market. I will definitely look hard at the Curado though. To me the Citica just feels off, and if its anything like my Caenan it'll sit in the truck bed more than anything. The smooth as glass feel and very loose spool without losing complete control is why I love my Curado E. if the G has that feel I'll be ok with it. People talk about pulling power with reels but having your drag tightened down is stupid to me, I like using the rod and reel to pull a fish in not just the reel.
  21. If you want to be able to use more types of baits get a bait casting combo and learn to throw it using a jig. 1/2 oz will make learning easy.
  22. Buy superglue, and put it on the eye of the hook right before you slide the worm up. It bonds very quickly so don't get it on your fingers.
  23. When they don't like jigs on the bottom, KVD swim jigs seem to do a good job. I primarily fish jigs of all types, usually catch fish. I have many days with worms and lizards with no fish caught at all.
  24. My budget seems to impact my bait selection more. I can justify expensive rods reels and jigs. Knock off senko worms are all I buy though haha.
