  1. I dont believe game fish in general are allowed to be used as bait..
  2. If anyone catches a fish with a lunker punker in it.. its was mine!
  3. Yea.. night fishin like you said
  4. Know your battlefield: Talk to fellow fishermen and get their reports on this body of water.. get maps.. get topo of the area so you can kind of see from the surrounding topo what the water would be like in certain areas even without an underwater topo. Rent a rowboat for one day and go out and do line-depth scouting If you insist on fishing this body of water and know there are fish in there and have had no luck on the banks at all, I'd suggest coming back at night and giving it a shot night fishing. Become a more knowledgeable fisherman. There are guys even on my lakes whom I never see catching any fish.. they must be saying the same thing: "theres no fish in there" "theyre all deep" They always reply with a gasped "really?" when I tell them theres 20"+ fish in there. I know theres fish in there, I know the areas, I get in there and pick the place apart and retrieve those fish.. thats the difference.
  5. What kind of lure.. and depends how far and how much you want to invest.. I reconfigure my own lures out of bulk and clearance purchases .. mostly Spinnerbaits and frankensteined plastics. I could buy wood stock and plastic lips and paint my own crankbaits and epoxy them over but now its starting to involve more tools and getting more expensive.. and taking away from time spent on the water. Buying hooks and molding jigheads now even more. The point is, there are people making jigheads and other parts which are good quality so why spend hundreds of dollars replicating those efforts when you can purchase those components on he cheap esp in clearance sales. A lures which is easily strippable and reconfigurable: spinnerbaits .. and boy does the right configuration slay fish. I've been slaying them in clearwater this year with one I configured for clearwater fishing.
  6. I've pulled 5 lb'ders out of heavy stuff with braid and medium rods.. so its not like its impossible I work MH and count on the heavy braid to pull them out
  7. The only times I've seen bites shutdown are after a stormy cold front. Bass need to eat and other fish dont want to be eaten. I don't think its so easy to chase down a bluegill or baitfish..they are pretty alert and shifty. Bass need to ambush and school to take out prey and its not a given .. given a chance to eat easily and stuff "for a rainy day" I would assume survival strategy dictates it.
  8. X2 Fish them confidently and patiently.. if you aint catching fish on plastics somethins wrong. Spinnerbaits are great but plastics are just as or more effective.. I esp love soft jerkbaits and worms.
  9. How big are they?
  10. Im in.. hows it work? 5 best fish for the month? and starting when?
  11. You sure they didnt hit the blades? Sometimes you think you didnt get a hookup its cause they hit the blade I use braid and never had problems with hookups. ..and yea 8 out of 10 I wouldnt complain about
  12. Ya really do you really want to fish low confidence in competition? I'd work out everything in practice and just execute my gameplan in competition. No confidence under pressure situations = not working the bait right = no fun = no win
  13. Problem with a hud down there and at this season is the tail really doesnt kick as good as a boot tail. Even up here right now they are hittin the big hammer for me which flaps all over unlike those slow hud tails. This time of the season everything is moving around alil more.. think the odds are in faster moving baits.
  14. Great its that time of the year and Im in the same area so I'm whippin out my topwaters and theyre gonna get the first shot
  15. Its all about percentages You try to maximize your odds of catching fish under certain conditions Based on these conditions you prefer certain lures and techniques over others and adapt/change as needed Then the fish come.. its not that hard
  16. Yea if it were for a state record maybe not.. but hey that fish was brought on board.. as long as u let her go.. its a catch!
  17. Got a nice belly on her.. that means its prob 4.5 pounds Probably ready to lay eggs.. ..and probably 8-10 years old
  18. Ya I like quality for sure but quantity dont hurt either. I am at almost 50 fish so far this year with over 10 fish > 3 lbs.. most of the bigger fish on spinnerbaits. This is an approximate since I take pictures and videos and I have not yet renamed and categorized them which I usually do end of season in winter. ..but June is when I usually catch most of the big'uns and lots on topwater cigars & frogs.. so wooohooo lookin forward to that! (lickin of chops / rubbin my hands / knee slappin' woohoo)
  19. Almost need to do no hookset on braid. One downside is the line can and will snap if the spool jams on a cast.. and the smaller diameter line eats into the rest of the line spool and occasionally it happens to me. Otherwise its a pleasure to use braid..
  20. I assume yer using braid and are using a rod with good backbone?
