  1. Jerkbaits are my go to in that water temperature. But don't overlook lipless cranks, under spins, ned rigs, shad raps, and wiggle wart style cranks either. Spinnerbaits and jigs almost always get a few bites too.
  2. I like round bend trebles because they just seem to be better all around, especially for slapping or light striking fish. Plain old Gamakatsu Round Bends, or The Gamakatsu's Short Shank Round Bend
  3. Does anyone know of a true finesse jig that skips under docks and overhangs well? I know any flat bottom jig will do it well, just wondering on a specific jig.
  4. BX brat is my new favorite

  6. Irrigation diversions often dry up the Kern, but in other stretches it does have smallies I believe.
  7. Check out Lakes Cassidy, Goodwin, Stevens, and Roesiger in Snohomish County. Shoecraft can be good too. Lake Washington is probably the best though if you have a good boat.
  8. Savage gear fat vibe as well. The red eye shad is good too.
  9. The dream shot is a bit more durable than a robo worm. I really like both though.
  10. That was it, that spacer is missing. Put another spacer in from my other curado and it works fine. I will look for the spacer that I lost.
  11. May have to end up sending this to DVT, but after I cleaned and reassembled my Curado 200e5, I noticed the spool tension doesn't work, no matter what setting it's on, and the spool jiggles back and forth as if completely loose. I took it apart a couple more times to try and find what was wrong, and even put a tension cap from my other Curado 2000e5 on, and it still didn't work. The little piece inside the cap had not fallen out either.
  12. Sensitivity is only 10 or 12. Tried it, didn't work.
  13. I mounted a Helix 5 DI on my trolling motor a few days ago. The problem has been it very often displays a double echo, so the displayed depth is not the actual depth, but is showing what the false bottom is as depth. My other Helix 5 SI does not have this issue. Sometimes, it doesn't do this. But most of the time does. I'm fishing a deep, steep dropping canyon lake, does this have anything to do with it? If it did, why is my other unit (transducer on transom) not doing this? How do I adjust this or deal with it?
  14. I will be fishing Lake Powell next week. In the last tournament this past weekend, it was raining and cool during most of it without much wind. Air temps went from the 80s to the low 60s, and water temp went down to around 68 to 74. It seemed the best bags were caught still in main lake areas near points and rip rap on jigs and cranks. The rain is supposed to stop Friday, but a major cool down is coming, as much as ten degrees cooler on sunday and monday. I will be starting to fish Wednesday. How do you think this will affect fish location? The primary forage is shad, but also lots of crayfish and bluegill. Will they be more into the coves and cuts now? Should I start close to the main lake or about halfway back, checking the major and rock bars? The lake is down about 90 to 100 feet, so there is basically no wood cover now.
  15. One of my lakes is chock full of shad, and this years spawnlings are 2 to 3" long. Bass are still in their summer patterns, grass and weeds are still green, air temps still over 60 at night and 85 to 95 during the day. But the bass have lockjaw. I am thinking because there are so many shad. Most of the shad seem to be in the shallower coves around the grass early in the morning. The only other cover is a little rip rap and a couple brushpiles besides all the grass near the mouths of the coves and the thick matted weeds in 2 to 5 feet of water. Lately only frogging has worked well but even that has been slow. Any other ideas for presentations or patterns? It closes to boating October 1st for the season to protect migrating waterfowl, so I only have about 3 weeks left to fish it. So when it closes they will only be in transition, not full on fall patterns.
  16. There are three settings on my Humminbird for the DI (narrow, medium and wide beam). Someone told me 455khz is the best for down imaging most of the time except in really deep water. What beam angle do you guys use for best results and which beam is 455 khz. Default is wide and it says 455/520khz on the display.
  17. Has anyone here used the phat frog kit from River2sea that comes with a plopper blade that fits on a frog's trebles? How does it work for you? I like the Teckel Sprinker and the Booyah Toadrunner, but they don't come through the mats that well, they are more for fairly sparse vegetation.
  18. Ended up just needing a new leaf spring (changed the other one too for the other axle) and the fender needed bent back into place. Fixed for $130. Axle, spindle and bearing are good to go.
  19. Option number 1 as in broken axle? We are going to take the tire off tomorrow and look at it.
  20. I busted the leaf spring on my right axle on my boat trailer going around the driveway curb too sharply tonight. My fender is also bent to where my tire won't spin well. My boat is a 19' Nitro with a Tracker Trailstar trailer. The leaf springs are three leaf, are either 3500 or 4500 pound capacity. Do you know which spring I need. Is it possible I broke the entire axle? Or do I just need to bend the fender back into place after I replace the spring?
  21. Of the regular style frogs, the Livetarget and the Pad Crasher are the best, by far. Go with a natural frog color, a white, and a black, and your set for all conditions.
