I suppose. But, while I haven't watched much underwater video, I have always sensed that the unpegged weight and the hook are often separated....though maybe not when working through grass.

Funny....lots of mentions of Bama Craw. I'm one who often says that color really doesn't matter very much. But, I bought a couple packs of Bama Craw Rage Bugs a couple years ago and, while it may be mostly in my head, I absolutely cannot get bit on them. I'm too stubborn and have re-tried many times, but Northern Virginia bass are NOT fond of Bama Craw. Some sort of ACC bias, I suppose.

First heard of them today reading a couple articles. I see that VMC and Gammy both offer them. Aside from using as components of Tokyo or Jika rigs, does anyone sue them for 'regular' t-rigging? The argument is that the freedom of movement allows for better (or just easier?) grass fishing. Sort of makes sense...maybe...lol I guess I could experiment with a split ring, but that might just catch on the weeds. Anyone use ringed ewg's for their T-rigs?

Fishing kayaks are evolving incredibly fast right now. Lots of yak fishermen on here, so let us help with any specific questions.

It's worse than that, I believe. I'm convinced that bass in certain ponds go on high alert just from the vibrations of someone walking along the bank. I have no real evidence, just my rather weak powers of observation; but it seems to pay to be a bit stealthy.

I got new amber (green mirror) sunglasses a few weeks ago. I do like them at dwan and dusk. But mid-day, I miss my gray. I am not thrilled about it, but I may start carrying both in the yak.

Quite well. I should mention that this was tidal water and my personal opinion is that good spots reload faster in tidal water than on lakes.

I tried to read the whole post a couple of times, but I have a hard time getting past this. I know it isn't answering what you're asking...but maybe you're asking the wrong question.

I've always been extremely impatient. I've really dedicated myself to thoroughly understanding all the laydowns that I see with any regularity. Two weeks ago, I litterally spent eight hours without moving more than 150 yards from where I started.

If I'm picturing your description correctly, the point is going to be down into the plastic a little more than you're used to. It has taken me years of using different hooks with different plastics to just begin to understand my preferences. For example, the Gammy EWG works quite well for me with a Rage Bug, where I can just barely tuck the point into a ridge. Few snags, but good hook ups. That same hook doesn't work as well for me with something really soft like a Senko and I start getting snags after a few casts into brush. A soft bait with a good 'hook slit' might be perfect for your new hooks. You may get less snags, but you'll have to be careful with some plastics and check every couple casts to make sure the point isn't getting too buried and you miss fish.

One rod to rule them all? Don't let the bait monkey hear that sort of talk. I use MF a LOT. But if I was covering those lures with spinning gear, I would probably want a MHF casting rod.

When the carp are concentrated and thick in an area, I haven't had much luck right there. But I don't have to go far. I spent a lot of time this spring on a stretch of bank that had very distinct neighborhoods of carp and bass....close together, but not a lot of mingling. When I find gars, I tend to stumble into a pile of aggressive ones. There are bass nearby, but gars just destroy the rattle traps and chatterbaits I favor in those types of areas, so I avoid them now. They're pretty predictable and usually visible.

I use 18# Gliss with 8# Yo Zuri Hybrid leader.

I've snagged a lot of carp, but caught my first one last week -- with a Cut-R. I didn't even know it was possible. I had to beach my kayak to land the dang thing. I can't imagine fishing for them intentionally. Catching (or snagging) one sucks up to a half hour out of my bass fishing day

I'm falling on the opposite side of most above. I always have a chatterbait tied on. I throw them in all conditions and all over the water column. I often have a spinnerbait tied on -- but more often than not, it doesn't get thrown until the chatterbait tells me 'not today'. I have the opposite experience of some above, in that I very rarely snag a chatterbait, and I put them in places that a spinnerbait doesn't go as well for me. Especially in pad fields. I cannot work a spinnerbait through pads. But a chatterbait can be tossed in fairly deep and worked through, as long is they aren't really thick. I work a chatterbait over, around, and through laydowns that I get in trouble with a spinnerbait. And, I face a lot of water where I get 12-18" between the top of the grass and the surface -- a chatterbait comes across the top clean and even when it dips in, I can almost always rip it clean. I don't have nearly the luck (skill) of pulling a spinnerbait across the top of grass like that.

Ned rig: I threw it a bunch after I heard about how great it was - probably not more than one outing in last year or more, though Shakey head: Been using shaky heads since I began bass fishing; still do - often I will not suggest that ned rigs don't work - they do. And I won't say that they can't catch big bass - they do. But, between the dinks and the painfully slow drop and presentation, I find a shaky head to be more versatile and more fun for my liking. If I'm tying on a ned rig, it means I'm feeling pretty desparate.

I'm not sure, but I've been working on a theory for decades that they run back and warn every other fish within a city block

Any recommendations? Quick googling seems to show that Chums and Croakies are leading contenders... Anyone with experience with either of those? Others?

Great for finding and marking structure. But biggest benefit for me is marking offshore brush piles. Some of the best brush or trees can be only a couple square yards and even when I thought I had good landmarks, I could spend over a half hour trying to find spots I'd fished many times before.

Same. White Rage Bug on all white, white/green chatterbaits. Only time I don't use white Rage Bug is on red or blue/black.

I do it, but more lazy than plan. If I'm working swimbait on bottom and come upon wood or weed cover, I may just continue with what's in my hands instead of switching rods. However, I do pitch a Rage-rigged Cut-R quite a lot and that is nearly as much a swimbait as a worm.
