Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm going to put this info to work this weekend until it puts fish in the boat. I'm still a little uneasy about springing for tungsten just to intentionally lay it in the rocks.....I did find a large lot of 3/4 oz on auction site for less than $2 per, so maybe its time to pull that trigger.

In all likelihood, its either because: 1. Bass see red and go nuts, as if its bleeding or something (ala KVD); or 2. Because red is invisible to bass and they can't see that metal jighead attached to the yummy looking worm (ala Cajun fishing line.)

I haven't tried an expensive one, but if I buy another, I will do just that. I've bought H2O, Smithwick, Heddon; can't tune the props on any of 'em worth a darn.

This weekend, I'm taking all that I learned from that other post and I'm going to slaughter them with a deep c-rig.... And, to be honest, I've done OK with lightweight c-rig on spinning gear up to about 12 FOW....I do have trouble casting one, but I won't deny it can be effective

I always carry a pack of white senkos. They're kind of a last resort sort of worm for me. I can only recall two days when I found them to be killer. But, on those two days, I couldn't buy a bite with anything else.

I'm no help. Just here to wish you luck. I got my father's old '76 Johnson 6 this year and started having lower unit problems soon after I got it running. I'm not mechanically inclined, either. Every shop I've called....first question from them is "does that motor have sentimental value?" Good luck!

Most: I can have a good day throwing topwater within an hour of sunrise/sunset and a jig the rest of the day. Least: I don't know...I really try not to get to prejudiced against any method, because I never know when I'll have to resort to it; and when I do, I know that any presentation will only work for me if I have some confidence to throw it correctly..... -- but, generally, flukes and dropshot mean that I'm starting to feel desperate. I've had good days with them and I hesitate to say that I dislike them...its just that when they come out, it means I've been struggling.

JF, that was me before yesterday. However, I couldn't buy a bite on DS yesterday. Felt a little goofy my shaking my DS to no avail while I watched guys around me throwing heavy c-rigs and boating 4#+. Tried to duplicate what I was seeing, but I was ill-equipped.

All the carolina rigging that I've ever done has been of the 'finesse' variety. Yesterday I was trying to get down deep and I really struggled. If you throw a c-rig in more than 25 FOW, what is your typical setup? Rod (length, power, action): Weight size, shape, metal: Bead (glass, plastic, none): Leader Length: Line:

I'm not terribly coordinated and muscle memory isn't a strong point. I can cast fine with little to no brakes for a time with no problem. But one little hitch in a cast, or a other small flaw and backlash results. Not a huge deal, but picking out each backlash probably consumes enough time to lose 3 to 10(?) casts. I will gladly risk sacrificing a yard or even 10 of maximum distance for control, confidence and more casts.

I generally don't like people anytime. But, I'm in a park overlooking the National Mall waiting on the DC fireworks and the hundreds of kids (and parents) are extaordinarilly well behaved and having a great time.

IMO, this is the perfect time to go ahead and buy that Lucky Craft, Megabass and Rapala. I assume this was a gift of some sort? Buy yourself something nice that you wouldn't if you were just browsing there with your own debit card. I won't say that BPS stuff won't catch fish. But, I will also argue that LC and Rapala are 'better', IMHO. Are they $5 or $10, or whatever, better???? Who's to say? I think so. Which is why this is the time to find out for yourself. I spent a few years buying cheaper lures before I broke down and bought something more expensive as a treat. I haven't bought any BPS anything since. Another reason....if this was, in fact, a gift then don't you think it'd be more special in 5 years when you look at that LC bait and remember who 'gave it to you'? A few BPS cranks are going to be lost, broken or forgotten by the end of next month....or at least they won't be memorable as to who was responsible for you getting them.

Both knots work well with Yo Zuri. I generally use improved clinch. One thing to watch for if you're new to YZ; 'creases' in the line are its only real downfall. If you get a bad backlash, or a messed up knot that cause the line to get a hard crease, be careful, check it well and consider removing that section. It is my only concern with it. So, if your 'flouro' knot is likely to put a real hard bend (vice smooth, round bend?) in the line, consider a different knot.

My personal preference was spinning gear for many years. I now split my time. I will say, however, there are two techniques for which havving learned to use a baitcaster was serious game changer. Maybe because of the specific spinning equipment that I had. But since I committed to getting good with a baitcaster, frogging and jigging are 100% more effective with my baitcasting gear. Not saying they can't be done with spinning gear.....just that I couldn't flip or punch a 3/4 oz jig, nor set the hook with a frog before I picked up a baitcasting rod and reel.

"Strongest" and "Best" may not intersect. I like PPS8 ok. No complaints. I don't see it mentioned here much, but I took a flier on Cabelas Rip Cord 8 during a sale over the winter and have been extremely pleased. 300yd for less than $15, IIRC. Low noise, doesn't dig into itself like same size PP, and zero problems with knots, abrasion, etc.

x2....mid-summer, anyway.....WIDE enough to keep my cigar dry. But, from late Sep to mid May, I do tend to wimp out and put on a rain jacket occasionally
