I attended both. UW may be more difficult -- they used to expect prospective students to be able to spell....even the fishermen. UWM, I'm not so certain.

Until I found BR, I thought I was good with terminal tackle selection of 3/0 EWG and offset worm hooks and an assortment bag of worm weights. Now I need a suitcase.....and a bigger boat.

Fishes In Trees, great post. Thank you. I have a 3-ring worm binder that has served me well for 4 or 5 years, but is on its last legs. It is labeled as a Field and Stream product, but I can't find it any more. The closest I've found is: http://www.*.com/Shimano-Baraja-Worm-Binder-p/shimano-baraja-wormbinders.htm But, I'm not sure its as rugged as the one I've got. I will probably try the jumbo size. The thicker packaging isn't suited to ziploc bags all that well and I end up carrying a small duffel and a backpack with my most frequently used stuff.

Greatly appreciate the assistance, guys. I went and looked at it this weekend. Good guy and he'd probably take an OBO at something less than $800. My real hesitation is the size/weight. I'm still waiting on my roof rack and kayak saddles, so it was easy to postpone a decision. I may try to get down to ARC this weekend and see what they've got. I have had a Perception Pescador 12 in my Amazon cart/wishlist for months....and still may do that. I'm very intrigued by the Hobie Mirage, but just don't think I'm gonna drop 1.5-2K on a kayak before I even know if I'm going to love fishing from one. ....still looking

I have not used VMC Rugby yet, but I'm intrigued. I did, however, throw the Biffle swinging jig head quite a bit this fall and absolutely loved it. Much more than just working horizontally. It went into and came through laydowns particularly well. As it falls through timber, it seems to keep a beaver style bait more horizontal than other presentations I've tried and just seems to get bit a lot more than other rigs I was trying. I was amazed at how well it worked through weeds, grass and wood. I also think that having hook swinging free from the weight gives it more action bumping across the bottom, too. That doesn't answer the OP comparison question, but I thought it important to note how great the swinging jig is for flipping denser cover...compared to some jigs and some trigs. The more confidence I have that it won't get hung up, the better I place a lure.

You said that 'most of the time' you'd be alone. If you choose the 12 footer, and you ever bring one other person, you're likely going to regret it. You will be amazed at how close you and the other fisherman will be to each other even with one against the transom and another forward.

Interesting. I used to use french fry lures quite a bit, but for some reason, they've worked their way to the bottom of my tackle bags. I don't read much about their use on here, but I'm glad for the reminder. I'll have to take some out this coming spring.

Do you take the hook to a witch doctor? Or, DIY with a Ouija board? I'd guess you need to take the worms, too, though....it convinces them to stay on the hook? Sorry....Senko threads make me a little loopy

Your example of beaver-style makes it a different question for me. That is the best example of a bait that convinced me that I need NO other beaver-style baits besides Rage Tail Structure Bug. Nothing else has come close since I tried them. As to other styles.....it depends. I'm just glad that I don't have sponsor to worry about..LOL...I'm fickle and I like to play the field.

A few years ago, I'd have probably recommended the Cardinal. I have one that's about 7 or 8 years old that came on a $60 combo and is still one of my favorite reels. However, AG has changed things up and tried to play two different markets with Cardinal. I tried the lower end one, thinking that it'd be like my old one and it barely lasted a season. I suspect the (newer?) STX MIGHT be good, but I feel let down by AG and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about my President.

I've tried that -- it's maddening. Ten minutes trying to get it on straight followed by swearing as I watch it spin through the water. I only use them nose-hooked, twist-locked or as swim-jig trailers anymore.
