I've read that elsewhere. But, I must be missing something. Doesn't Ned rig typically have an exposed hook? Lotta good it'll do if the head comes through clean, but the hook is dragging a half pound of salad.

Roboworms and Dream Shot nose hooked. I've had little success with soft jerk/fluke style baits on drop shot. I have caught dinks and bluegill with wacky rigged worms, but few keepers.

I'm afraid I have no idea. But, I'm curious as to why? Of all the possible qualities that I would compare when shopping for a reel, that isn't a question that I would ever think to ask.

I got one early in the summer. 7' listed as M-F. Pretty stiff - and if I didn't know better, I'd have said it was MH. Absolutely no issues with construction, design, etc. Decent rod, but as Montanaro said, it is a little hefty.

Dumbest Or Most Silliest Things Said To You Or Heard While Fishing..... A slow day on the rez and I took a minute to look at Bass Resource Forums on my phone...someone had started a thread titled "You're stranded on a bass lake and can only take one lure......."

Glenn has a good, short video on overhead casting accuracy. I rarely have a problem there anymore. Where I struggle is sidearm/roll casting. I generally seem to seek out targets that require low trajectory. Pitching and flipping certainly have their place and uses, but I would like to be more accurate with my side arm casts and skipping. I'd say maybe 40% of the time, it'll be exactly where I want it; 40% of the time 'close' or even 'close enough'....10% that are backlashed or otherwise stupid....and then there's that other 10% that are way off or into the bush/tree....5 or more feet away, etc.

I like the recap and I think there's a lot of value in reviewing the season. I just caution against making such grand generalities, even though it's natural and we all do it. Each of those successes (and probably most of the failures) were dependent on much more than just that body of water and that lure. I had days when it was lights-out with a squarebill, but a week later nothing would touch them. If one misses the lights-out day, he might just toss all his squarebill cranks in the basement for the next couple years.

If you have to ask....... Honestly, it depends. 200 yds is plenty....IF I'm at anchor or adrift...or going the other way. However, if you stop 200yds down the bank in the direction I'm trolling and flipping, you'd best get in and get out.....or start moving away from me at a pace equal to or faster than me....IMHO. The guys that park in my path get my goat as well as those with no sense of personal fishing space

I'm guessing that they'll stop when we get enough global warming to fish year round in soft water across the whole country.

I think you should definitely go down and spend a weekend there. I was intrigued about the lake, location, etc enough to put it in the mix for retirement destinations. We went down earlier this year and spent a weekend there after having driven through months earlier. We spent one day on the lake and a day and half driving around, talking to locals, playing tourist, etc. We both knew by the time we left that we had little desire to live there. Pretty hard to put my finger on why --- and a weekend may not be a fair shake....but we've got a lot of other places on the list to cross off yet before we return. It is a strange combination of isolation and mayhem --- nothing around, and dead in the offseason. Totally nuts on the water on a summer weekend. Home prices seemed good when compared to here in DC; but still, waterfront was more than I expected considering how many miles of waterfront there are and how isolated it is. So....I guess none of that means much except that you need to check it out for yourself before committing, even in your mind a little, to putting a stake in the ground. I, too, am all ears for those 'secret' spots. I've 'narrowed' my search to VA, NC, TN, KY, and...maybe even AR, or MO.... I've got a lot of lakes to check out over the next few years.

With a nod to Felix' thread, but not wanting to jack it, I'd like thoughts on one line for both ARIG and Swim Baits (up to 6 in.) on same outfit. I'm thinking 30 or 40# braid.

I took four or five back to 'Hunting' to price check and all came up as marked. So, I guess the marking is accurate there. Most everything with a .93 or .97 had a new red tag slapped on them - generally about 20% below regular retail -- and then they ring up 50% of that. There were a few that did end in .93/.97 that didn't have a red tag, however. The Smoke was like that -- tag said $119.97, no red tag, but still rang at 50% of marked price. Rage rod had reg price of 159.99, red tag that said 129.97, and rang up at $64.99 with $3.19 reward (61.79 total). I'd say there were about 3 or 4 more Rage casting rods with red tags.

Frayed. No 'favorites'. I probably use Improved Clinch the most. But, I still need Palomar, Albright, Anchor Hitch and others.

Yes, Woodbridge. Not all the Rage rods - maybe 1/3rd of them. Dunno why. Too bad, too. I wanted a Rage spinning rod, but they were full price. The Smoke was the last 'decent' reel with close-out sticker price (.93 or .97). I'd have loved a RH one of those, too.

Went back and did find a St. Croix Rage MH for my wife for $60, along with a Quantum Smoke PT Leftie to put on it for another $60. I may go back one more time and see if they're just behind on discounting the Crucials.

My wife and I rented a Carolina Skiff to fish Smith Mountain Lake for the first time last spring. We were in a tight cove tossing a frog and spinnerbait. A pair in an extremely nice looking Nitro motored right up to the mouth and then proceeded troll right through us with just a few feet between our boats. I was polite and asked how they were doing, but they ignored and tried to crowd us right out of there. My wife, on the other hand, was so ticked, she talked at them constantly..."where you from?" "nice weather, huh", "pretty boat"......until they finally said.."oh, are you guys bass fishing?" as if they couldn'f flipping tell....and then took off....jack wagons....most of the time, I'm extraordinarily easy going on the water, but these guys bugged me a lot worse than any others. Try killing them with kindness -- I think it ticked them off worse than if I'd have started cussing them out.

Somehow, I've never seen Christmas Story, Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation. But, I DO watch The Ref every Christmas. Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey - I can't imagine those others above could match it
