  1. I have a 1972 Evinrude 9.5 short shaft that I use as a kicker on my 18 ft boat. In this respect, the motor works great. Occasionally, I use it on a 12 ft v hull aluminum. It a a dog! With 1 person and gear it MAYBE goes 8 or 9 miles per hour. I feel like the motor itself is strong, but I think that a prop would make a world of difference. Typically this boat has 2 guys and gear in it, so I think that the little motor should be able to get 15 mph or so, if not more. I am basically clueless as to how to size them. Any help would be appreciated. FB
  2. The colder it gets around my neck of the woods, the better. Throw in a big storm and I'm a happy camper...errr...fisherman.
  3. I hear where you guys are coming from. I just don't see it fitting in anywhere for me. Most of the lakes that I fish are very open. Rocky, deep, clear. That is where I would want a typical popper. The only place that I fish that has real heavy cover, is the California Delta and the frog fishing there is well...epic. I regularly fish about 20 types of baits. Then I have the other 30 types that I never use, I guess I just don't want 31. I see the points that were raised, and I could see the want for that bait in the east/south because of the types of water that you guys fish.
  4. My updated guide: 1: Tell them exactly what you want on your sandwhich. 2: Have them get up before you, and make them, so the bread doesn't get soggy overnight. 2: Tell them to go back to sleep. 3: Let them know when you will be home. " Tonight, later, eventually, or sometime" are acceptable. 4. Do not take a cell phone. If they can't call you, they can't harass you. 5. If they want to go with you at any point, state an imaginary safety concern that bars them from doing so. 6. Enjoy not having to explain, rig, demonstrate, or pander to her. 7. When you get home, thank her for the nice warm dinner and back massage that she has waiting. P.S. My girl goes with me all the time, and I enjoy it. But sometimes, my seven rules come into play!
  5. My question is: WHY? What purpose does it serve. Regular poppers work great. If you really need a popper in heavy cover, throw a popping frog. It just seems like a good way to spend money on a bait that doesn't really do much for you.
  6. go for it like the other guys said, but take ALL precautions. pfd AT ALL TIMES. signalling device, bail bucket or even better a 12 v pump. extra prop. as much as I like to think I am invincible, i know that mother nature is always capable of whuppin my arse. have fun, stick fish, BE SAFE!
  7. Right now it is a toss up between Lamiglas's higher end stuff and Shimano Crucial/Clarus. I love my old workhorse Okuma though.
  8. I just assume that the 11lbs is maximum "effective" drag. as tight as you can set it and still have it be smooth. I just turn the star real darn hard by hand. RW, i forgot to address the heavy cover question. Not only then, I do it in open water too.
  9. No, I don't catch "many". I can however tell you with near certainty that my only fish over 10 would not have been landed other wise. 30lb test mono, 11/0 hook, super rocky structure, from shore. a 6 ounce bait has alot of leverage when a fish tries to throw it. for the life of me I do not know how fish chris manages to land all that he does ( aside from being one hell of a stick) because I think he fishes with some drag. The first for sure DD that I hooked managed to throw my hardbait because I couldn't keep the line tight enough. I want to get them headed towards the boat, and keep them going that way, until they hit net. I don't want that once every 1,000 cast fish to throw me because I could not control her and she jumped and shook for 2 minutes. That is why I still fish that way. The reason I started fishing that way is because my buddy told me to. That is good enough for me. Look for him in an upcomiong article along with Mike Long in Basswest this spring.
  10. I set the drag on my Cardiff 400 as tight as it will go. I have it set to where you CANNOT take line out with your hand. Same thing when I am froggin, and 95% of the time when night fishing.
  11. SWEET! Nothing like 2 DD's huh!
  12. What was wrong with mine? I see how it is, every body hates the tall guy JK
  13. That is a great goal my friend. They are truly gorgeous, I just barely broke into the teener category with mine, but I am there darn it! I spent the whole year shooting for a ten. I think it could be pretty tough for me to reach my goal, but you have got the location and drive to make yours a real possibility dude, can't wait to see the hog shot!
  14. Drop shot or dart head. Try casting more parallel to the shore so that your bait stays in each depth zone longer.
  15. I don't know that motor, so you might try a sledgehammer . But for the fuel problem, that sounds ALOT like a plugged filter to me. The motor is probably having a hard time drawing against it. So when you squeeze the bulb, it forces some gas through and fills the line, filter, bowls, etc. After all that gas gets burned up, your fuel pump (electric or gas, i don't know which, but it doesnt matter) can't create the same amount of force that your gorilla grip can with the bulb. Just a thought, but it is a cheap experiment, and it never hurts to put a new filter on even if that isnt the problem. FB
  16. Grandpa, Dad, Son. That would be my guess.
  17. I think that they are really cool creatures, but if you want to keep them away from your pond without hurting them, you might try a fox or coyote decoy to act as a "scarecrow" move it around occasionally so they don't get to accustomed to it in one spot. it might work.
  18. CX is flouro coated copolymer, it sinks, and i can say from experience that using 12lb CX with a sammy 85 is a bad idea!
  19. I missed out on a 34.5 lb sack this weekend, and I still haven't been out. I think I'm getting a little cabin fever! Sorry if I came off like a pri(k syfer and everyone. it been a long couple of weekes. i gotta get out. there is a sweet storm rolling in. FB
  20. Well paparock pretty much stole my whole post except it was colorado. man i miss it. FB
  21. I don't pick fights. I just think that it belongs elsewhere. The listing is: Bass Fishing Forums>> My Tournament or Outing. It is for bass fishing. Why would you think that I was "picking" a fight? Is there some reason why anyone would pick a fight with GO? And screw rodney king, that guy is a sleaze ball. from http://www.blackprof.com/archives/2006/03/rodney_king_anniversary.html Rodney King himself has had a difficult time since 1991. Despite being awarded a multimillion dollar judgment from the city of Los Angeles, he went bankrupt. He has had several run-ins with the law including arrests, charges filed, and some convictions -- motor vehicle offenses, drug, spousal abuse, soliciting a prostitute, etc. He may have been unfairly treated by the cops, but if someone has it coming to them, then no, we can't all just get along. BTW this topic was almost off the 1st page so you could have said nothing, and it wouldn't be as big of a deal, that I thought this belonged somwhere else. If I had been "PICKING" a fight, don't you think I would have resonded to his reply to me? I didn't. He got his jab in, and it was all good. I've got no beef w/ you either Syfer, but why you gotta call me out?
  22. 11/0 Owner. Great hook. That is the only hook I use at night.
  23. Well put Rolo! But I too have a nasty LC habit!
