Don't use braid! That crap has practically no abrasion resistance to toothy critters. Heavy mono, flourocarbon, buy more baits, those, unfortunately, are the only options I see.
  2. i bet i know who mike has been talking to My buddy swears by those rods and they definitely get the job done for a great price too.
  3. The online bass fishing world is really quite small!
  4. Largemouth and smallmouth off bottom in 60-70. Halibut at 400 Mackinaw 170ft down over 300.
  5. I don't think that they are accurate at all, you also have to take into account density of fish. My big one was 1 inch longer and 1 inch bigger in circumference than the SAL that Keith showed us. She was measured be an accomplished trophy hunter and weighed on a high end Salter digital. She weighed .69 pounds less than that SAL even though she was dimensionally bigger. Crazy
  6. Indeed it is avid, indeed it is. Its nice to be able to just step back and enjoy some fish and quality time with one of my best friends.
  7. I beat the crap put of my reels. Scratches all over, but open them up and they are sparkling clean inside. I have also been known to put $100+ hardbaits on the rocks at night when fishing a new moon. That unmistakable clack means I need to apply a little more thumb next time . I beat my gear up. To me it is like a hi performance 4X4, make sure all the performance stuff is in top order, but when it comes to cosmetics, who gives a rip? I too do not understand why people blow all kinds of cash on gear and spend more time coddling it than they do fishing it. I spend that money to catch fish, not win ramp pageants.
  8. Catt, are you suggesting that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration doesn't have it's own radar and satellite network???????? I think that he is saying that Weather Bug uses the NOAA radar network. I use weatherbug as well and it seems to be very reliable.
  9. I thought I was alone! I can't stand them either, but they sure catch fish.

So that is what Avid looks like. You have been nothing but a "shady" character since I have been here. LOL ;D. Great fish Avid. Doesn't really look like a spinning rod you are using, did you give up on the "yankee stick"?
  11. Thanks everyone. Dan, I've got me a little bit of a Copenhagen problem. Ah well, goes great with fishing.
  12. Just a quick side note. Firefox 2 (web browser) has a built in spell check that works just like a microsoft office spell check.
  13. He kept saying "no pictures until I get a good one" LOL. Here is the Mackinaw (Lake Trout, Char) that he caught on our last trip together. She went 7-5 and was pulled up out of 75 ft on 6lb test and a Kokanee rod. I had a blast with him, like always, we just don't get to go as much as I would like.
  14. I think that they have a pretty fishy action. I have caught a few fish with them, but I honestly think that the pointer out fishes them.
  15. Dang! Ya got me all excited! Sweet score though man.
  16. You still have my respect dude, and I will continue to look forward to your posts. Jay
  17. So I have been sick for the last four or five days. Work has been awful. I shouldn't have gone, but my boss needed me and the money is good. Today I woke up and felt a little better. My dad of all people wanted to go fishing with me. I don't get to fish with him much so I drug my butt, and my boat, to the lake. Its a lake that is notorious for dinks but it is not even an hour away. I thought we might get on some numbers. It was cold, real cold. I'm a Coloradan born and raised, but that wet cold here just kills me! I set the old man up with a drop shotted 4" worm and I tossed a light jig on my spinning rod. Within 30 minutes I had my first dink in the boat, about 1.5 pounds. My pop missed a few bites and I tried to coach him on the proper drop shot hook set. I scraped up five or six more fish, including smallies to about 2 pounds in the next hour or so. My dad finally got his first fish of about 1.5 pounds, beautiful little bronzeback. The lake is real snaggy, I got my jig stuck in the rocks in only about 3 FOW. I shook it and it wouldn't come out, so I plucked the line and that dislodged it. As soon as I started to reel it in, the fish that had been staring at the distressed craw smashed his fleeing victim. After a riotous battle, including singing taut line and some drag peeling, this 4-2 was in the bag. Not a toad, but out of this lake, I was stoked. On my , used to hate it bait, the jig. I love this bait! The rest of the day my dad landed a few more fish, and I ended up with a total of about 20 with 4 or 5 in the 2+ range, including this 2-15. I dumped a 3+ smallie at the boat because she was gorgeous and I didn't want to tear her up with the net LOL. Great day and I gained even more confidence in the jig, with ALL of my fish coming off of it, and all of my dad's on the dropshot. It sure was fun to get on some numbers, and even a couple quality fish at a lake that I had written off as low numbers and poor quality. Great day with my dad, and I DIG THE JIG! FB
  18. where (besides a swap meet) can you find 8" senkos? I have never seen them.
  19. I'm with Avid and Lightninrod
  20. Exept during World War 2 When spotting a German submarine you'd have to say "Attsa notta my boat, attsa U boat" Avid, you kill me!
  21. I love them, but I have near zero confidence in spinnerbaits in gin clear water, which is what I fish 8 months out of the year. As soon as it muddies up to about 2ft vis, i will start throwing them again. My highest number day was with a black/blue T1 and at the end of the day it was trashed!
  22. I guess that shows me for just doing a random google on "wal mart is evil" LOL. I Was too lazy to type anything else on the subject. Oh and "mindtrix" you are soo cool! You must be proud. Thank you for your wonderful contribution of stupidity.
  23. As I recall, you're from Texas, that takes us to the whole " CALI: fruits and nuts, TEX: steers and.... well you know. ;D It basically boils down to this. I don't like BPS or wal-mart and it would please me no end, to have them stop spamming me. Which it appears, might actually be happening!
  24. You guys have already subconsciously conlcuded that they don't work. If they did, you would be eating fish not bait!LOL
