QUANTUM PTI20 ENERGY
Welcome to the board. I have some Quantums with the TiMag bail system, I haven't had any problems with mine. I know what you are talking about with line not seating on the roller though, it can be annoying. Do you close the bail by hand after you cast? When I cast I stop the line with my index finger when the lure hits the water then close the bail with my other hand which also allows me to make sure the line is on the roller and I check to make sure I don't have any loops etc. I think the magnetic bail system might not have as much resistance as a spring system and opens easier. On my Kinetic if the line isn't on the roller I can feel it when I start the retrieve, it has only happened to me a few times when I get in a big hurry to make a follow up cast. You said you were on your second one, did you send it to Quantum or did you return the first one to the store? If I am not mistaken the TiMag bail system is guaranteed for life if you bought it new and registered it they have a 48hr turn around. http://www.quantumfishing.com/custsvc/warranty.html My brother in law is new to fishing and I can't get him in the habbit of closing the bail by hand and checking the line before he retrieves. It seems like everytime we go out he'll end up with a giant birds nest that takes half of his line off the spool at one time.

new quantum reel w/o paperwork?
I guess I have just been lucky, the last email I sent them was sent at 8:29 AM and I had the reply at 9:49 AM same day. There has been a few times that it took a day or two. Regardless of how you contact them I think they will take care of you.

new quantum reel w/o paperwork?
Welcome to the board, I think all you need to do is send Quantum an email or give them a call, if they don't have the PDF the will mail you the manual. The Shaw Grigsby reels are branded for Dick's I am not sure which model it is. Try these links http://www.quantumfishing.com/custsvc/contact.html http://www.quantumfishing.com/custsvc/sp_maintenance.html I think the reel may be an Incyte if so click on the size and you will get drawings but I would ask Quantum first http://www.tackleservice.com/shopSearchResults.asp?SID=&selDepartment=50&selClass=120&shopperid=6RC45X7LKKAD8M2SPX33XNF113A5A8R0 I think Quantum's customer service is top notch and they will point you in the right direction.

Purchased Revo S from Bass Pro Shops plus fish pic
It's not uncommon for rods and reels to come seperate. The rods have to be shipped in a tube and it is hard to get a reel box in there too. My brother in law ordered a rod reel combo about a month ago and both arrived on the same day within a week. I have bought stuff from Cabela's before and it shipped from several distribution centers and they all arrived at different times. I don't own the Garcia bag but I have seen it and if you need a gear bag it is pretty nice for the price. It seemed to be well made.

My new boat... decking questions???
Welcome to the site. I have a 14' V and have thought about decking it here are some links to other boat projects that I found to be very helpful. http://www.tritonmike.com/boat.html http://www.myjonboat.com/aboutboat.htm I stood on my bench seats while fishing just to try and get an idea of how it would feel by raising the CG. I wasn't scared by it but I could see it being a little tipsy with two people moving around. My boat has a 15" transom so there isn't much freeboard and if I do put a deck on it I am only going to deck the front and build a battery box up there. The my jon boat site has one really nice V hull conversion.

F@#%ing crooks
Sorry to hear about this, I know what you are going through. I don't know if this is Ohio law or local law but when I tracked down some of my stolen items at a pawn shop I had to pay the pawn shop what they paid for the item to be able to get it back. The detective told me that is the only way they can get the pawn shops to cooperate with the police. I was a little hot, I did all of the leg work. I have zero tolerance for liars and thieves. I agree with Frog tog and P_Rock, throw your address and a list on the board. I understand pride and I way more apt to help a proud man when he is down than someone who always has their hand out. I don't have much in the way of hardbaits but I have tons of soft plastics.

Very nice, I hope things work out for you. If you currently own a lot of tackle from a particular company I would start with them. You have to practice what you preach. If you "shotgun" your resume you might not get many replies. But if you pick manufacturers that you currently own and use equipment from you can personalize your resume to that company. Make sure to tell them what products you own and what you like about them. Approach the companies with the mindset that every little bit helps and make sure they know you aren't looking for a full ride but if given the chance you will prove yourself to them. If you do get some feedback make sure to keep the company updated on your progress. Back in the '80's I was into drag racing and I was amazed at how much free stuff I was able to get just by asking for it.

You are welcome to it. After re-reading it you might want to change the end of it to "get more involved" instead of "give it a try" Good luck

Aside from some grammar and spelling issues it looks pretty good. I don't want you to think I am picking on you because I am trying to help. I have seen a lot of resume's in my day not for fishing sponsorships but for employment in the everyday world. Spelling and grammar jump off the page, especially in the computer era. -Instead of writing a paragraph about your accomplishments you might want to list them as bulleted points. -When mentioning your business give some examples of how you became successful, i.e marketing strategy etc. - I wouldn't ask the question "What would I expect from a sponsor?" I would say something along the lines of,"I know I am young and I still have a lot to learn about the industry. I feel that with your help and guidance I can take my career to the next level while promoting your products. Some may see my age as a liability but I see it as an asset, I think I can help sell your product to younger anglers. Seeing their idols fish with your product is great but if they see one of their peers fishing tournaments it may inspire them to give it a try. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth just trying to offer some advice. I always try to say things with as few words as possible while still getting the point across. One other thing I tell my employees when they want something is "Don't tell me what you are going to do but show me what you have done."

wiring
I have my TM wires and depth finder wires cable tied together for about two feet at the battery box. They share a battery and I haven't had any issues. I am no electronic genius though and if you are running the wires for a longer distance you might run into some issues. You might want to check the mfg. website to see if they have installation requirements.

Quantum Customer Service
After reading Flechero's issues with Shimano reels I thought I would share my recent experience with Quantum. I have and older spinning reel, it has the TiMag bail system with a graphite frame. I am pretty sure it pre-dates the PT series and was probably the first generation of the TiMag system. I would guess the reel is seven years old. The frame was cracked right below the reel foot. I did some searching and found part numbers for the non "Ti" version. So I sent Quantum an email and asked if the frames were interchangeable and if they were still available or if there was a current product with a frame that would work. I received an email from Quantum within two hours, the email said "send us the reel we'll take care of it" and had their address. I had read the warranty and service information on their website which states to send a check for return postage. Their email didn't ask me to do that and I was assuming I would get a call to tell how much the repairs would cost. I sent them the reel with a copy of the email and my contact information. They received the reel on Monday. As of last night I still hadn't heard anything from them but I decided I wouldn't call them until Tuesday if I didn't hear from them today. When I got home from work there was a package on my porch I figured they had sent the reel back and were going to tell me sorry about my luck. When I opened the box there was a brand new Kinetic PT staring back at me. I know the TiMag bail system is guaranteed for life (at least on the new PT's) but the bail was fine on my reel. Total cost to me: ZERO,ZIP,NADA, NOTHING, $0.00. Needless to say I am totally blown away. How can I not be a loyal customer for life after such a great experience? Well, I do have a Daiwa on order so I guess I will have to start after that. I would suggest to Flechero to give them a try since he is fed up with Shimano but I am sure the Quantum casting reels are way too heavy. There are still companies out there that care and will go out of there way to make customers happy. I know there are not many Quantum fans on this site and the only thing I can say to you Quantum bashers is that maybe you should give them a second chance. It appears to me they are working hard to make things right.

How do you put line into a spinning real?....
Spinning reels turn clockwise so to avoid twisting you want the line to come off the spool counter clockwise. For the most part the side of the spool with the label on it needs to be facing up if you are going to have the spool laying flat. Just check to see which way the line is coming off.

My disgust with Shimano
Flechero, I agree with you about supporting companies that make things right, and I also think that Shimano might have some quality control issues. My brother in law bought a Stradic/Bionic Blade combo from BPS. He is new to fishing and after awhile he started complaining that he didn't think the reel was very smooth and he was going to updgrade on his next reel. I fished with it and told him I thought it just needed cleaning. When I took the sideplate off the whole inside of the reel was packed with grease. His next purchase was a Stradic/Extreme combo and the Stradic was bone dry, the bag the reel was in had plenty of oil in it though along with the exterior of the reel. The plug on the lube port was held on by a few threads. None of these issues were as extreme as yours nor were the reels as expensive but you would think somewhere along the lines these things would get inspected before shipping.

Frog Rigging Question
Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I have a BPS gift card so I am thinking I will be buying some hooks and I might go ahead and get a pack of the Mann's just to see how they behave. Thanks again.

Frog Rigging Question
I have been using 4/0 EWG hooks, I think I will try those Mann's. I bought some of the Hard Nose Lizards this spring and was really impressed with how long they lasted. Thanks

Frog Rigging Question
I went through about 5 Zoom Horny Toads in an hour the other night. I was lucky to get two fish on one before they were ruined. The problem was that the center of the bait was getting ripped open. Right along the hook groove. I am guessing that when I set the hook the hook was tearing it. Is this to be expected or am I rigging them wrong? I am rigging them Texposed. I didn't know if I should try pegging the hook eye or something to keep the hook from being able to move.

How long is too long keeping a bass out of water?
One thing I will do when I have a fish that is really hooked is to flatten the barb on the hook before doing the "power out". Actually, I flatten the barbs on a lot of my hooks before I even fish with them. Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits seem to cause a lot of problems when bass are aggressive and really crush them. I don't fish very many baits with gang hooks but the ones I use most often have the barbs flattened on at least the rear hooks. I can't think of one lost fish where I felt that if I would have left the barb on the hook I would have landed it. Besides, I am not getting a paycheck for catching a fish so to me the occasional lost fish (which happens anyway) is better than killing or seriously injuring one. Just MHO

This disgusts me...
The one thing that really bothers me about this and no I didn't check out the website. I read an article in Bassmaster years ago about spearfishing for bass. If I remember correctly the problem was in Texas anyway, they were saying that the divers would just tap two metallic objects together and the bass would swim in to investigate the noise and end up getting shot. If it is legal than I am glad there aren't more SCUBA diving spearfishermen in the world. If people are abusing limits and regulations that is a problem but I see that with fishermen too often as well. It bothers me when people draw comparisons between fishing and hunting. There was a description of "fighting a fish to near exhaustion" which if you guys are doing that you need to beef up your tackle and be in a position to land the fish quickly and get it back into the water healthy and if you think the fish is exhausted revive it don't just toss it back in the lake.

AIR BRUSHING. . .HELP ME
There are a lot of choices when it comes to airbrushes. You might want to check out Dixie Art http://dixieart.com/Dixie_Art_Supplies_Airbrush_Main_Page.html. I have Paasche single action and Badger double actions. I prefer the single actions myself but for what I am doing I don't really need all of the features of a d/a airbrush. I haven't started painting lures yet though. Everything I do is scale models. As for the pait, the paint you are using now should work you will need to thin it with a compatible thinner. You want a consistecy that is similar to milk. You will need to do some experimenting to get it exact but once you get it you should be good to go with that brand of paint and thinner. I usually jot down some notes once I get the paint just right. I would also suggest buying a compressor. Those disposable cans of "air" are a real pain in the butt and the pressure drops rapidly.

Daiwa Reels on Sale at Cabela's
I didn't see any Falcons but I noticed today that they have Daiwa Tough and Light Heavy action 6-6" to 7-6" from $89.88 to $99.88. I wonder if my wife would miss just one purse, anyone want to buy a Coach purse for $99.88?

To all the Fellas I know on the Board
That is quite an accomplishment, although we have never met I am very happy for you keep up the great work. Congratulations.

Pick up trash.......
I totally agree, we keep small plastic shopping bags and we always try to bring out more than we went in with. The biggest problems in our area seems to be the guys that build a fire and fish all night. Amazing how much beer some people can drink in one night. You are right though if we all do our part some land owners may change their mind about letting people fish their land.

Topwater
I have always liked the Smithwyck Devil's Horse yellow and black. The Rapala Skitterpop I think the color is called lime frog.

Reels for flipping and pitching
I use the same reels I use for anything else. Although I prefer externally adjustable reels so I can easily switch from pitching and casting. I don't have a "pitching" rod so I never felt the need for a specific reel. I usually use my worming rig.

Grass Carp help needed
I am not sure about conventional baits but if you have a flyrod you can catch them on olive colored nymphs, wooly buggers and sometimes even dry flies. Some people even tie "grass" flies. Hooking a big White Amur on a 4wt fly rod is a lot of fun. There is a park that has a bunch and once the sun starts setting they will come up to the banks to feed and if you get the fly close to where they are heading you can usually trick one. I was casting to one last summer and I didn't realize his buddy was right next to him and when the fly line went across his back the water just exploded. When I retrieved my fly there was a scale about the size of a quarter through the hook
