  1. There are more factors than visibility (both to the fish and to the angler) to be considered when selecting line. As in most other things, absolute statements are seldom accurate. Russ

  6. Spinnerbait. Learning a year-round technique, learning when to slow roll and when to burn it. Bonus points for being able to also improve casting skill and accuracy. Plenty of variations, types, sizes, trailers, etc to choose from. Second choice would be a Texas Rigged soft plastic. Russ
  7. Glitch in The Matrix ...
  8. I use CR to specifically work on slowing my presentation speed. Often, I'll alternate between either a chatter bait or Spinnerbait (and slow roll the SB) for the same purpose.
  9. I have fished 4 (two Road Trips in 2005 and '06), 6 (lived nearby), 8 (stationed in Orlando ... twice), 11 (summer road trip while stationed in the great Naval State of Idaho), 12 (went to grade school nearby, though I don't recall them being particularly good in the 70's), 14 (several road trips while stationed in Jax), 25 (Family Vacation ... Sneak end a guided trip), 43 (several road trips while stationed in Jax), 48 (stationed in Charleston), 52 (High School in Ft Lauderdale), and 91 (I live across the street from it). So all tolled, 11
  10. Hi there. Spent 3 hours on Mountain Island Lake yesterday. Mostly staying along inlets, pitching and skipping around and under docks. I was using a chartreuse/white chatter bait (from Seibert Outdoors ... these things absolutely ROCK), and a weightless TR Senko ( as mentioned in another thread, this didn't work at all ... Newp, nada, nothing ... *cough*). Partner was slow rolling a small Spinnerbait and also a CR Zoom. Bite was slow, but steady. Caught a dozen "keeper" sized between us (largest just a touch over 3 lb) and a handful others that were 10" - 12" in length. Eventually, incoming rain and darkness (and potential "frosty adult beverages" waiting at my place) chased us off the lake. Fun day in fishing on a late Dec day in NC.

    Look good. What size/weight?
  12. Don't "... shoot your eye out ..."
  13. Couple of BPS Gift Cards, some new rain gear, and a Plano 3600 Soft-Sider Travel Bag (w/3 3600 boxes). All of which will come in handy since I'll be a non-boater and/or bank fisher until summer 2015 or so. Russ
  14. I'm gonna put some micro-guides on my pink Zebco casting Rod, and some hawt aftermarket bearings on my new Zebco 33. Wonder if I should spool it up with braid or Flouro?
  15. Learn as much as I can about my local lake (Norman, Mountain Island, and to a lesser extent Wiley). I moved here about 18 months ago, so need to get to know my local waters. I will probably start looking for a boat next year (2015), so I want to be well prepared by then. Russ
  16. You could just search for that topic. Sheesh. One thing that could use some improvement is the Help File and/or FAQ for using the search tool here on BR. The help link has a single screen of (IMO, very generic) info. Maybe someone more adept with the search tool could put an article together on advanced searches.
  17. If it occurs across several reels, then it points to whatever spooling technique and/or device you're using. Might be uneven tension on the supply spool. How are you getting new line on your reels? Russ
  18. 1. Patience (aka slow down) 2. Accuracy (aka practice) 3. Study (aka knowledge) Honorable mention: Have fun Know the difference between fishin' and catchin' Have fun Russ
  19. Sort of by accident, I ended up on the BPS Website in the lines section. Was comparing various FC line diameters and strengths and came across "Trilene 100% Flourocarbon Professional Grade Fishing Line." Same diameters as similar weight mono (e.g., 12# = .012"). Contrasted with "other FC" (12# = .285"). Is this the same ribbon sort of line discussed here? There are only 3 reviews on BOS website, and I didn't see it mentioned in the search results from the forums here.
