  1. i use my single PP a lot. I tend not to bed fish but I've parked in coves to get out of the wind, and use it in extremely windy days on the delta river and it's helped and held me with no problems. The other day my trolling motor died and the wind was blowing, without the PP our day would have been tough but we managed to park in spots that produced some good fish. although not a necessity, it is nice to have.
  2. although my tin was a little more than that, I agree that for the money a tin is a great place to start. I've seen a lot of posts from guys that got a great tin starter boat in that price range. How much do you fish now? A good way to get a lot of lake time and not have the costs associated with a boat, is to join your local bass club. Good luck
  3. to say everything works great should be proven and don't just take their word. Not sure how much money you want to put in a 1989 boat but to re-do the paint could be a pretty penny. Although I am not a painter, I would think that if you were going to do something with the Gel coat you might as well paint it at the same time. If everything does work and you just want to fish without doing anything is another thing as well. Is the whole boat like that?
  4. I was sitting in my truck at the top of a boat ramp waiting to get my boat out of the water when this person was trying to back up and unload a couple of jet ski's and taking what seemed forever; it was painful to watch. A deputy was about to tell them to move so others could use the ramp but I asked him if I could help them. I thought it was a couple because the girl was sitting on one of the ski's and I thought the guy was driving because I could only see someone with a hat in the cab. As I walked up to the truck to ask if I could help a downright gorgious girl stepped out and said "oh please". I told her to get on the other ski and I would get them in the water and bring back the keys. She was so grateful and after she took her shirt off to get on the ski, so was I lol. All kidding aside, we were all there at some point and with practice we all got better, so when I took her keys down after parking the truck, I gave her a few pointers, we talked for a minute and they went on their way to have a fun time.
  5. The boat is in for its yearly service so hopefully I'll get out Friday and get the stats
  6. I've had so many but my last before I got my boat was a Hobie Outback. I think my favorite was the prowler, I believe it was over 15 feet but it was fast and a great fishing platform. Don't get me wrong the Hobie was a great Yak but after using it for a couple of years and if I didn't get my boat would have probably gone back to a traditional yak.
  7. with the posts on how fast some of these aluminum boats are going with smaller HP motors got me thinking. I have a 17'6' Triton with a 2 stroke 60 HP, that I believe has the original prop. Not sure how to tell what it is but if anyone could give an opinion on whether I should get another one that would be more efficient would be appreciated.
  8. I wanted to hang some of my lures from my storage compartments, so i cut down some plastic Drywall corner angles, which work great because they have a load of holes to hang things. My lids are lined with some type of material or thin carpet so, I used double stick Carpet tape. It seemed to work, but when I got in my boat to load up for a fishing day tomorrow, most had fallen off. I can't screw them in because my lids are to thin, so if anyone has done this, what kind of glue works?
  9. I bought my 2004 boat used a couple of years ago and the Power Pole was having some issues with the pump brain not recognizing the remotes. After a call to PP and help from them with troubleshooting they figured it out and sent me the part in two days; for free. Must add, that my pole is outside it's warranty, so that says a lot. If and when I add another or buy another boat, it will be a power pole based on the customer service they provided to me.
  10. After being diagnosed with cancer last may, my own self pity kept me off the water. Now that I'm past some of my treatment, I fish whenever it doesn't get in the way of family. Here in CA we don't have a lot of harsh weather, some may say we don't have weather at all but if i plan a day to fish, heat, rain or bad reports won't keep me off the water.
  11. I say make it look like you went fishing by keeping it quiet and letting her sleep in; then surprise her and spend the day doing something else with her. I think flowerers with a card that says something like "i went fishing and caught you" would get you a lot more fishing days in the future.
  12. I sure would like to get better at jig fishing. My years of ocean and trout fishing has my brain set on the nibble and yank for hook up and it seems with two years of bass fishing under my belt, I still have a problem with those soft bites.
  13. after taking a closer look, some of it came off pretty easy with a 0000 steel wool and after hitting it with polish and then wax looks great. in other areas, it looks like the clear coat is bad, so it may need to be painted.
  14. going out to try that now, so I won't stink by the time we go to bed
  15. My lower unit on my Mercury outboard has that white oxidation look going on and I want to freshen it up. I've read that you should use Mercury paint but others have used Rust Oleum, so if you have re-painted yours any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
  16. have you considered a used tracker? you could probably find one in that price range
  17. make sure it's safe and you have a great platform to start off with, so good job. My first is an aluminum and going on two years with it and just deciding if I want to upgraded the motor or move up to something else. Have fun and go get em!!
  18. i started with 17'6 triton with a 60HP Mercury. I upgraded the TM and front FF and it works fine. I've had it for almost 2 years now and it's been perfect as a learner boat and still can't see upgrading yet. Most of the lakes in Southern CA have 35 MPH speed limit so I didn't need much more and I've taken it to Havasu, Meade, Delta with no problems. I'm heading into my 3rd year with my local bass club and made it to our Tournament of Champions my first two years, so having the slowest and cheapest boat in the club hasn't hurt me. Good luck
  19. I was just about to post that rod for sale on CL, but I may try the cumura and see how I like it. I read so much on how to use the fiberglass rods for chatter baits that I was going to look for one. Looks like I have a couple of other choices too, that Phenix and one of the 7' Powell.
  20. Will a fiberglass rod make a difference in my Chatterbait set-up? I am still building my gear leading up to my third year of Bass fishing (only buy when the wife lets me or doesn't know) and as I branch out to learn all the techniques; I have to pay more attention to the reaction stuff. Spinner bait, Chatterbaits, and Buzz baits etc. have really been ignored. I just noticed that I have two rods that are not being used, and frankly, I forgot I had them. I listed my Rods and if anyone could let me know which would make the best Chatterbait rod or if I need to go out and get a Fiberglass would be appreciated. The first to Rods are the ones I forgot I had. I was actually thinking of selling them if I need to go with a fiberglass. Shimano Cumura 6'10'' spinner bait.
