  1. great, I don't have a jackplate and the motor is still under warranty. purchased the whole set up used for a great price. it included the sandwich plates, tilt bracket and all. That sucks.
  2. has anyone self installed a Minn Kota Talon with a sandwich plate?
  3. I started with a used Triton 176 sport and really enjoyed it. I did go through all the issues that accompany an aluminum boat but I learned to fish from it and had a blast for 3 years. I made our club TOC two years in a row and until a few months ago, I was the only aluminum boat in the club. I actually was looking to upgrade the motor and keep it but everyone told me it would be better to sell it an put that money in a newer boat. I did and it sold int 3 days; after thinking I would wait and just back seat for a year, a good deal came my way and I bought a 2014 Z-7 Nitro. I pick her up tomorrow, so the new adventure begins. If you fish waters the majority of the time that an aluminum boat will work, I would go that route. They take the abuse and I did get in some skinny water that I know my new fiberglass will not. the pictures are the old and new. Good Luck.
  4. Although I loved my Triton 176 sport, I sold it on a whim and figured I would put the money in the bank, save for awhile and look for a used Ranger RT188. A used boat came into the shop my buddy works in and I decided to get it. It's a 2014 Z-7 Nitro with only 12 hours and the warranty good until next July. She has a mercury 150 four stroke, dual console, 70 lb trolling motor, two Elite 7 chirps, traveling boat cover, and really clean. I pick her up tomorrow and can say, I am stoked. I thought my wife would freak, but she said just let me know how much to write the check for.
  5. Very nice! I see you got the new wheels... What size is the HP on your Suzuki and how does it push the boat?
  6. having an aluminum boat, mine is a must LOL
  7. I have an 8' Power Pole that came with the boat when I bought it and it's good for anything up to 7'. Just by where it's placed, you automatically lose a foot to a foot and a half. I was the first to have a power pole in the club, but another member just got the 12 Talon and loves it. He fishes big time tournaments as well and he said it paid for itself in a couple of times out. In our meeting last night, several guys were discussing getting one or the other, but the one common thread was how Talon dings you for everything. I would have got the 10' if I bought it originally, and based on the customer service of Power Pole, I would stick with them. I bought my boat used and the power pole met be at least 6 years old, but they helped me diagnose a problem and sent me the part I needed for free.
  8. Delivery on Sunday was one of the stipulations that got Amazon to push their parcels through the USPS. I was a manager with the USPS for 31 years before I moved to Homeland Security and I was there during the testing and trial period with Amazon. The Post Office smoked it with a near 100% on time delivery for them, and it appears they are keeping it up.
  9. I just put my Garmin 73sv on my boat and was wondering if there is any reason why should keep the other (lowrance 522C igps) there too. If I do keep the two, where would anyone suggest I put the second Transducer? I have a Lowrance 7hdi up front as well.
  10. I have that reel on a Phenix Recon PHX 5722 and really like it.
  11. I switched to the FG and really like it. A couple of practice ties in the garage and it's a breeze after that.
  12. that's why I'm wondering if it makes a difference. I can get a used, but basically new CT-41 from a guy for a fraction of the price but I just want to make sure I won't sacrifice on the shallow depth. What I mean; if both units work the same to 40 feet, and one is just better at 100+, I can live with that.
  13. So I need to get a transducer for my Garmin Echomap 73sv and I found a used GT-41-TM for sale but I have a question. The GT-40 says its for Shallow water (fresh) and the GT-41says its for rougher deeper waters (salt). I guess my question is: will I not get get good shallow performance from the GT-41 as well? Both are compatible with the unit, I was jus wondering if I will sacrifice shallow water views because this is a deep water unit. I do not fish ocean in my boat at all. ransducer Name Picture Description Garmin P/N Price Freq. (kHz) Power Beam-width (o) LF/HF (-3dB) Max Depth (ft.) 14. a floating high end fish finder, which works. Tried everything I could do to locate the owner, but no go, so it's getting mounted as soon as all the stuff comes to do it.
  15. my last three club tournaments have been terrible. In-between practice days have been better, so the tourneys have been very frustrating.
  16. I made a trip to our distant Bass Pro Shops and the guy working in the FF department was nice enough to hook it up and everything works fine. No waypoints, so nothing to pinpoint a home lake. I gave it my best, and since it's a major upgrade to my dash mounted unit, I purchased everything to hook it up.
  17. I've found good information on that site as well, but be prepared to get slammed if they don't like your question or think you're not as good of a fisherman as they are. They throw insults and vulgarities on a whim.
  18. the FF was not registered but they could tell me that it was made in December of 2015, so not old at all. I also posted in Westernnbass. My next try will be to boot it up and see if the anything in save waypoints helps to pinpoint where to post.
  19. didn't even think about that; I'll do that now thanks
  20. nice fish!!
  21. LMBO I even called the Ranger Station and they said I could leave it with them and see if someone claims it. I called them today and still no inquires, so I'm sure one of them would have ended up with a nice FF if I would have left it.
  22. In a slump this year, might be to depressing LOL
  23. I've heard of lakes actually rotating closure of the coves to give the Bass opportunities to spawn. With some of our lakes in CA rising up 4 to 5 feet a week right now, those beds must be scattered all over the place, so I'm sure there are plenty that are deep enough to still get warm, but just out of the view of most anglers. I think if it was really hurting the replenishment of Bass, we would have heard about it by now.
  24. I was fishing at Pine Flat Lake the First weekend in March and found a higher end Fish Finder floating right by the boat. It looks to be in OK and water doesn't appear to have made it inside. I know this is Northern Ca, but I thought it would be worth a try to get it back to the rightful owner. I posted in that areas Craigs list as well but I know they had a few tournaments back to back, so it could be from anywhere. All somebody has to do is tell me what the make and model is and one special marking on it and it's yours.
  25. Nice fish, thanks for the share.
