Dobyns Savvy Or Champion
I think you made the right choice, The Savvy isn't a good choice for plastics and jigs, it is such a dead feeling rod but the champion will be fine for all baits that you would like to fish with it, including plastics and jigs. Let us know what you think about it after you have fished it for a while.

Dobyns Savvy Or Champion
Like the others have said, the Savvy will do well for moving baits. If you are going to only fishing moving baits go Savvy but if you're going to fish plastics or jigs then you will need to get the champion series.

Not Much Talk About Duckett
I own every one of the White Ice Series except for the Cranking models( I do not do much cranking around here) I can answer any questions you may have on the Terry Scroggins model. The 6'10 is a great all purpose rod and can throw many baits. Nice tip and good action. The 7'8 XX Heavy I use for Punching and this rod is a power house, Very heavy action, with just enough tip to work the bait. If you're looking for a very powerful rod for punching this is the one. It is not a broom stick but it is as close as you can get with out buying a broom. The White ice is a little better than the micro magic. Stronger rod with a little different action.

Rod Suggestions
I really know of no rods that match the Duckett White Ice at their price range. My vote would be for one of those. Simply Fantastic rod's.

Ok' Here's A Good One For Everybody
Well, IMO it isn't a fair fight. That Duckett White Ice blows the GL2 clear out of the water. I have not fished with the EX6 yet but I do not see any way it can possibly be better than a White Ice, They compare to many rods that are far higher in price and at $200.00 I do not know of any rod that can match it. My vote would be for the Duckett White Ice.

Winn Fishing Grips
Yes, Winn grips can be put onto any rod. When I bought my Orochi xx rod's I had the idea of adding Winn grips once the filler starts to fall out from the cork grips.

What Should I Use The Crucial For???
I believe that rod's weight is listed between 1/8 and 3/8 with a 10# line rating. As long as you use that as a guide, you can try what you would like and see if it would work. I really have no Xp with that exact rod so this is the best I can help you. Good Luck.

Alpha Rod's? Are They Good?
I have began to hear things about a company called Alpha rod's but I know nothing about them. I do know they use Winn Grip's but I know nothing about the blanks they are using. I was wondering if any one had any info or had used any of their rod's before? I'm considering buying one to try out and was just looking for some info before I did. Thanks.

They left the reel seat part as cork but they changed the butt section to EVA foam because on some of the rod that butt section of cork would split and then fall off of the rod because the cork would dry out or get stepped on and split. the EVA foam will not do this so you no longer lose your butt section.

Not Much Talk About Duckett
Yes, I do have a micro magic pro rod and it is a better rod than the regular micro magic but it is not a giant leap. This is right from Duckett. "Micro Magic Pro" "Any issue you may have encountered with the Micro Magic line of rods have reportedly been addressed, tested and fixed with this new rod series without changing the action or performance. The Micro Magic Pro has a Carbon fiber scrim for added durability, high gauge ring-lock guides with braid-proof inserts, a double flanged tip, cut-proof EVA butt and more line-to-guide contact for better sensitivity." This means the new pro has a double footed stripper guide, Uses carbon fiber scrim instead of glass scrim, new ring lock guides, eva butt cap instead of cork, a double flanged tip (no tip incert loss) and the guides are re-adjusted for better line slap. Does this make it a better rod than the old one, sure it does and I would say the $40.00 is worth it but that is something you will need to decide. The flip a jig and stick a pig refers only to bass fishing. Where I am from a big bass 5 plus pounds is called a pig. I love flipping jigs here because most of my lakes are full of cypress tree's and jig's catch larger bass IMO. Just a catchy statement. I do bow hunt for whitetail deer but not hog's

Not Much Talk About Duckett
From the way you have explained it to me it sounds like it was a defective rod and I do not feel like you should have to pay for it but I do know some rod companies charge for rod shipping and I'm not sure if Duckett has changed their policy on S&H since my rod broke a little over a year ago. I do know it was before the company moved so it was a long time ago. No, the Micro Magic is ducketts first released rod and they came out with a new version of it that took the place of the Micro Magic and it is called the Micro Magic Pro. Duckett understood that the Micro Magic had a few minor problems that anglers were complaining about and instead of letting that go by the way side they choose to fix those problems in the upgraded version, the new Micro Magic Pro. It won best fresh water rod at Icast 2014

My Ghost were just recently replaced because of the bad clear coat I think they wanted those off of the market because they looked bad so I can understand that. The white ice was over a year ago and well before the new micro magic pro rods were released. Please do not take my last comment as bad, I meant it to be respectful, I did not mean in any way that you are poor. I was just saying I had grew up poor but was lucky to have a hard work attitude and friends to help me get there.

Topwater Line
My topwater set up is a 6'10 Medium/fast Duckett Ghost with a Team Lew's. I use 12# copolly for this. Love fishing Chug bug's on the bend.

Yes, it sound like it was a defective rod. I'm sorry they didn't honor the warranty for you. I grew up poor but I was lucky and was able to get a great job in the oil field and make a great living. As I began to get older I started to spend some of my coin on new fishing toys. I have a feeling with you being in college you will be able to buy good toys soon too. Good luck.

Not Much Talk About Duckett
I broke a 7'3 heavy white ice on a hook set and sent the cut out piece to them and had a new rod in 3 days, it didn't cost me anything other than to pay my shipping. I also had two Ghost rod's that were already out of warranty, that had turned yellow in color. I contacted Duckett and was told they had a bad batch of clear coat on the first run of ghost and to send them to them. I cut them out, only sending the piece with the rod model and they sent me two new rod's and some Duckett shirts for my trouble. The rods also have a new one year warranty covering them. I do own 19 Duckett rod's though with most being the $200.00 White Ice and they know this, so it may have had something to do with it.

Lacustrine , I am sorry that happen to you. I'm not saying I do not believe you I was just wondering why they would not help you. that is why I ask for more info. I've had very good luck with Duckett CS but that doesn't mean that every one has. I'm sorry for your bad luck.

Not Much Talk About Duckett
Yes, it is. I have the 7'6 Extra Heavy Ghost and it does a good job. I've used 1-oz weights with punching skirts, hook and bait without any problems at all. Nice tip and strong rod, I can set the hook and get the fish moving up an out with no problem controlling the fish.

Not Much Talk About Duckett
In this day and age there are a great deal of good rod's and reels to choose from, as has already been said by Rippin-Lips it is hard to go wrong in the $150 to $180 price range because so many are good. Having said that I am most likely the biggest Duckett fan on the forum's. I sold all of my Powell rod's to buy Duckett's. My total count of Duckett's are 10 White Ice, 3 Micro Magic, 3 Ghost, 1 Macro Magic, 1-Micro Magic Pro and 1-Terex. I simply LOVE those rod's. I have fish ton's of different rod's and only found one I like as much as my Duckett's and that is the Megabass Orochi line of rod's but they are double the price of Micro Magic's. The White Ice rod's fish above their price and have a 20 year warranty with great CS. They have been loaned out, fished hard, thrown in back of trucks, my son and his friends use them and out of all of that I broke one 7'3 heavy white ice on a hook set fishing a frog on 65# braided line. Duckett had me a new rod with a 3-day turn around and no questions ask. Two of my Ghost rod's turned Yellow and I talked to Duckett and was told they had a bad batch of clear coat on the first run and those two rods were replaced with free shipping even though their warranty was already out and on top of that I was given some free shirts for my trouble. Duckett's are tough to beat imo. Fantastic Bass rod's Do not listen to any one saying they are a white carrot stick. they are far from it.
