  1. I have always been of the mind set that if I only had say $200 to spend on a combo I would spent $150 on the rod and $50 on the reel. To me the Rod is WAY more important in the way I fish. The only thing between you and the fish is the line so I also use the best line I can afford. . Line......and pretty much tied is the Rod . . . . . . . . Reel
  2. Both of mine pretty much cast the same but I'm not as happy with the I as I am with the E series. I just like the E's much better.
  3. I am sorry to say but that line is the worst stuff I have ever used. It is so stiff I couldn't cast it and trying to tie a knot was a pain. It is almost like trying to fish with bailing wire
  4. CAKE!! I would use cake. I mean it is my birthday.
  5. I am very happy with my Lew's Reels. I own and fish a Team Lew's Pro, Team Lew's, Lew's Gold, Lew's Super Duty, Lew's BB1 Pro, Lew's Tournament, Lew's BB1 and a Lew's speed Spool LFS. Out of all of those Reel's the Lew's BB1 Pro is my favorite. Once you factor in the price, fit and finish, dual breaking and castability it simple can't be beat with the other Lew's reel.
  6. I talked with Gary before ordering my first Orochi and he helped me a great deal. I bought mine from The Tackle Trap and I received my rod in two days. It was very fast shipping, the rod was packaged very well and I am VERY happy over the whole experience. I bought the 7'5 Medium Heavy Extreme Mission Type F and I can say with out question that the Megabass Orochi xx Rod line is fantastic. I am truly impressed and it takes a lot to impress me. The Orochi is just as Sensitive as the G.Loomis GLX my son in law fishes, much more sensitive than the Dobyn's Champion and a little less sensitive than my Kistler Z Bone. Fit and finish is amazing and it is one of the most balanced rods I've ever held. I have a Team Lew's Pro reel on it and it is spooled with 15# Sea-Guar InvisiX Fluorocarbon line. This rod would be able to do all that you have listed and could do it very well, at a length of 7'5" it would make a great deep water worm and jig rod. I think it is one you should look into. I do not have any experience with the Tour Vesatile (yet) but after buying my first megabass I am now going to order either the Flat side Special, the Spinnerbait Special or the Tour Versatile. Good luck
  7. White carrot stick....that is funny. Have you fished any of those Powell rods with the Dobyn's name on them lately Alonerankin2 ? I own ducketts and they are very nice rods and well worth the price. The problem is I doubt many people have fished the new loomis rods yet. I know I have not so I can not compare them but I do know you can not go wrong with the Duckett.
  8. WoW, Don't see to many people that sell off rods just to downgrade I'm just messing with ya.
  9. Yes, they did come out in 2010. Boyd won the 2007 Bass Master Classic and then three years later he started his own Rod company.
  10. Welcome to the Dark Side......Or should I say the Right, White Side
  11. Very nice! I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it.
  12. I am not paid by any of them but I've fished with Duckett Rod's for a very long time and IMO they are much better than the other rod's listed. Also do not buy a Savvy rod unless you are buying it for moving baits. It is the most dead feeling rod I've ever fished and no where near worth the asking price, if you do not believe me, do an internet search and you will see many others are saying the same thing about the Savvy line. The Tatula rods are nice rod's and they would work great but IMO Duckett should be the first choice.
  13. I had to go look and the Rod's I looked at were all listed at 1/4 to 3/4. Very few were not and Powell Max 3d even had a few Heavy action listed at 1/4 to 1 Oz.
  14. this should not even be a question. From you have told us they are going to give you the Apex for free. WoW, I think someone might lose their job over this one.
  15. The only bait monkey repellant I've ever seen was my Wife and she is d**n good at it too. If not for her our house could be made out of fishing rods by now.
  16. I enjoy fishing chatterbaits on my 7'1" Medium Heavy Duckett White Ice. While this rod is rated as a fast action it really is not, it is more of a Mod-fast action and has the perfect tip for chatterbaits.
  17. I may be in the minority here but through out my many years of frog fishing I have come to love the Mod-fast rods for frog fishing When I am fishing 65# Braid it really helps a LOT. I really believe I am getting much better hook up's after switching to a Heavy/mod-fast Frog rod.
  18. I use the 7'8" XX-Hvy Duckett White Ice rod and it is fantastic for punching with big heavy weights. I can also agree with gulfcaptain that those IRod's are really good sticks and I wouldn't think twice about getting an Irod for Punching.
  19. If I was to number my rods down to only three rods to fish everything I fish it would be tough because I am so use to having a dozen combos in the boat For topwaters and jerkbaits I am so use to throwing them on a 6'10 medium fast rod that it would be tough to go up but I would if I was going to be using only three rods. I would start with three combos that looked something like this. This is just off the top of my head but my final three combos would be pretty much this list. 1. 7'0" Medium mod crankbait rod with a 6.3.1 baitcaster with 12# Mono for throwing topwaters, jerkbaits, SQ bills, rattletraps (not in grass), crankbaits...treble hook baits. ETC.... 2. 7'0" Medium Heavy Fast with a 6.3.1 Baitcaster with 17# Fluorocarbon for Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, Rattletraps (In Grass), Senko's, flukes, whacky rigs, lighter Texas rig's ETC 3. 7'3" Heavy fast with a 7.3.1 Baitcaster and 65# Braid for Frogs, Toads, Jigs, pitching, flipping, Worms, Texas rig's, C-rigs...ETC
  20. That iROD Genesis II Fred's Magic Stick is one heck of a rod too. It does a lot of thing very well. I think I would just go with it.
  21. Yes, I agree, That is why I was saying it may or may not be the truth. I really do not know and it would be up to that person if they wanted to spend their hard earned money on a Carrot Stick. I would not buy any of their new sticks but I still have a few of there first model Carrot sticks, the 21 Carrot Gold. They are pretty good rods, imo. I have not broken any but I've heard many horror stories about people who did.
  22. I bought two of the first model Duckett Ghost Rod's that came out and they both turned Yellow on me. I contacted Duckett and was told that they had used a bad batch of clear coat and it had turned them yellow. They replaced both of my rods and it was even after the warranty was over but they did not want me fishing with ugly rods so they replaced them and I got a new warranty on the new ones. Pretty good I thought. I was told it was only the first batch that turns yellow and the problem has been fixed. Boyd Duckett was with Carrot Sticks when they first came out but the company began to cut corners on the Carrot Sticks and Boyd would have nothing more to do with them and he left to start his own company Duckett Fishing. I would advise not to buy a Carrot stick, I do not know anything about the new carrot sticks but I am told if something happens they will not stand behind them so you really get no warranty with them, now this may or may not be the truth I really do not know but I have heard a lot of people saying it. With so many options out there at your price point I would not fool around with Carrot Sticks. The ***'s have a very good blank in that price range and I really wish *** would change the handle on those Rod's. I bought a 7'3" Medium *** and it was a very nice blank, I really did not like the REC guides but I could deal with them. The problem was the handle, it was so uncomfortable to fish with that I had to sell the rod. I liked it too and would have loved to have been able to keep it and fish but they hurt my hand after a while of fishing with them.
  23. I am most likely in the minority and I'm not trying to make any one angry but IMO the Savvy should have already been in the $100 price range.
  24. The *** *** has a very good blank but as a whole it is not as good as the Duckett Ghost and the Veritas isn't as good as either one. The Ghost is a very good rod I'm simply not sure why it doesn't get more credit. It is selling like hot cakes and Duckett makes very nice fishing rods. I think you can still find some Duckett Micro Magic for around $100 if you search the internet. I also think fi you search you can find the Daiwa Tatula rods around $100 and those are very nice sticks too. If I was you I would try to find the Daiwa Tatula, then Duckett rods, then maybe look at the *** Omens but you should try to hold the *** before buying it, a lot of people (Myself included) can not fish them because the handle is just simply terrible. You could also look at the new Abu Garcia "IKE" Series of rods, I have no XP with those so I can't really tell you if they are good or not but They do look very nice at their price point. Good luck and please let us know what you decide to buy and how you like it.
