  1. This may be a topic for a different thread, but I've always wondered about why Edwin Evers uses pq's, carbonlites and crankin sticks when he is also sponsored by megabass. I like my bps stuff, but if I had a chance to have a full arsenal of megabass I'd be all over it. Maybe I'm missing something.
  2. I own a pq, lews ss, tourney ss, tourney mg, revo sx and t-3 ballistic. I think at $80 the pq is pretty hard to beat and should be perfect for your application. I don't own any high end reels because I prefer to put more money into the rods. I want my reels to be dependable and durable. So far the pq has served it's purpose with no complaints.
  3. IMO I wouldn't get an ugly stik. Look at carbonlite, duckett ghost or shimano compre. Every bass pro shop stocks slightly different stuff so see what they have. Ugly stiks are not very good bass rods.
  4. What's your price range? Pflueger makes some really good spinning reels. The president in the 30 size is a great reel for about $60. The trion is a great value reel at $40. The supreme is nice $100 reel. You can't go wrong with Shimano either. Get a 6'6" to 7' medium power rod.
  5. I use braid w/leaders for everything. If I'm fishing heavy cover then I go straight braid.
  6. IMO the bass pro qualifier/carbonlite combo is one of the best values at $159. I have more expensive stuff, but this combo is still always with me. The pro qualifier has dual brakes and the carbonlite is light sensitive rod. Bass pro shop also stands behind their products. Get the 6.4 reel and a 7' medium-heavy/ fast rod. This set up is versatile enough to do just about anything: t-rig, jigs, spinnerbaits, senkos, flukes etc..
  7. I agree with the guys...medium. I use braid too, but loosen up the drag and sweep reel hook set.
  8. I'd get a senko rod. Maybe a 733 or my favorite dx 743.
  9. Are they replacing it for free? I ask because I suppose that wouldn't be a defective rod. A couple of weeks ago my dx snapped casting and dobyns replaced it at no cost (except I payed to ship it to them). Great service. But if it broke like yours did I suspect I would have to pay $80.
  10. That stinks. What kind of rod was it? Warranty?
  11. I would use a 704 for those weights w/plastics.
  12. I use long leaders so I don't have to retie after breakoffs. At least 6 or 7 feet.
  13. If I was going to get just one bait for ponds, it would be senkos.
  14. T-rig w/ 1/8, 3/16 or 1/4oz. It still catches lots of fish for me.
  15. I use field and stream's in amber. Cost $25 and this time I bought a 2 year warranty for $6. I break and scratch too many to invest big bucks. My buddy loves his s-11's. The first time I used polarized sunglasses for fishing was mind blowing. I always wondered how much better you could see into the water with expensive lenses. Anyone have any input?
  16. Agree with carbonlite. Used my 7' mh today with senkos both weightless and with 1/8oz.
  17. I've never fished a duckett because I don't like white rods, but I'm sure it is a great rod because they have quite a following. I bought my first dx on sale and after fishing it, it is my favorite senko rod. It just fishes so well. I can clearly feel the difference between bottom structure and the lightest taps. It is a special rod in my arsenal. Unfortunately, it broke a few days ago. Hopefully dobyns takes care of me here.
  18. The president is my favorite spinning reel for the money. I don't feel the need to spend more money.
  19. I use 30lb braid w/ 15lb fluoro leader. Most of the time I'm catching river smallies around 2-3lb. I've never broken a rod casting like that before. Must have been a defect. I called Dobyns and they told me to send it in for inspection. I'm hoping they take care of this for me because I hear such good things about their customer service. I do think this will be my favorite rod. It has that "feel" with senkos.
  20. Thanks iabass. 90% of the time I'm throwing 4" senkos w/ 1/8 or 1/16th. Occasionally I throw weightless.
  21. But I see the 744 is rated for 1/4 minimum as well. Do you really think it would be too much rod?
  22. My dx 743 just broke today casting a senko w/ 1/8oz t-rig. I was really surprised because I've never done that before. It was my favorite rod. I'm thinking about replacing it with the dx 744 instead. My main use would be 4 inch senkos with 1/8oz or 1/16oz. Should I stick with the 743 or go with 744?
