  1. In upstate NY most of the time they’re called crayfish, and occasionally I’ll hear “crawdad”, but never “crawfish”. I usually just call them “craws”.
  2. Strike King Tour Grade. Mostly double willow. I rarely fish a Colorado blade if it’s not tandem to a willow blade.
  3. That is true. Although I’m not sure what his scores look like, he doesn’t hide the fact that he is a “terrible” golfer haha
  4. Tell that to my father who has been golfing for 50+ years and is still bad. He’s in his 70s, goes multiple times a week and has a blast every time despite never being below par. I don’t think he’s ever thought golf isn’t for him though.
  5. There is nothing more satisfying than finally putting it all together on a lake that you’ve always struggled at!
  6. Funny you say that, because to this day every single knot I tie, I tie with this fish in mind. It haunts me. Has me thinking maybe I should change my answer in the “what do you do best” thread. I tie a good knot because of this incident.
  7. I would go back and tie a better knot for that huge smallmouth that broke me off on a Pop-R at the lock when I was 12 years old ?
  8. Get my butt to the lake. No matter how exhausted, how late I stayed up the night before, no matter how I’m feeling, if I make a plan to fish I will be at that launch before sunrise. I like to think I’m pretty good with the topwater stick in my hand too ?
  9. Owning a business definitely gives me more flexibility, and my business partner is also into fishing so that makes it even easier to get plenty of fishing time in. Fishing is such a huge part of my life that I start to get miserable if I go too long without being on the water.
  10. Most likely your braid is slipping on the spool. 9/10 when drag stops working on a casting reel, this issue is actually line slippage. Unspool all your line (braid I’m assuming), and put some cheap monofilament as backing and then fill the rest with braid. Mono will grip the spool and prevent slippage. If you don’t want to use backing, when you tie the braid to the spool just put a piece of tape over it, then fill the reel normally. Try that and I bet your drag issue will go away.
  11. I’ve seen more bald eagles this year than ever. This shot is from Sunday.
  12. I have 3 Presidents from 2016, and love all of em. It’s too bad to hear they’ve gone downhill so much. I’ve liked my Presidents so much that I’ve planned sticking with the President line for all new spinning reels, but from what everyone is saying maybe I should reconsider. I have a Supreme 25, as well as Supreme XT and President XT casting reels which I love as well. The President XT caster is probably my favorite reel to fish with.
  13. With super light line I’m wary of line to line knots, even though I don’t think I’ve ever had a line to line knot fail on me. Just a mental thing. I’m extra cautious with light line. Because Hybrid is pretty cheap I usually fill the reel up with it, and swap it out fairly often.
  14. A size 25 reel will take almost entire spool itself. 275 yards isn’t near enough. Honestly I wish they sold it by the 1500 yards like Big Game and Trilene.
  15. I was going to link you to Tackle Warehouse but when I looked at my order it is 275 yards and that’s the only amount they sell. That’s not bulk I guess. That’s the only size they don’t have in 600 yards. Too bad. Ordered another one.
  16. Cooking is a big hobby of mine. Recently tried my hand at linguini and clams and General Tso’s chicken. Both came out excellenct: My absolute favorite thing to cook though is some braised short rib ?
  17. 4-6lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid goes on all my spinning gear. Excellent stuff. Just ordered a bulk spool of each size.
  18. Hot dogs with sauerkraut, meat sauce and raw onion. A guy had a hot dog cart at the boat launch of one of my favorite lakes for a few years and I would always get a few after fishing. Now every time I’m on my boat, whether the fish are biting good or not I will start to crave hot dogs and some spicy kraut.
  19. Gamakatsu 1/0 Finesse Wide Gap hook, 6lb Yo-Zuri hybrid line, Pflueger Supreme 25 reel on a 7’ medium-fast Fenwick Elite Tech spinning rod seems to be the perfect set up to me.
  20. The only way I can ever kill them is by waving my hat in circles over my head until I swat it and stun it, but then I have to find where it lands and squish it before it comes to lol so if you’re ever fishing in upstate NY and you see some lunatic on a boat waving his hat in circles around his head and swearing, it’s just me.
  21. Pike are an extremely common by-catch when bass fishing. You should be able to catch plenty without targeting them.
  22. The horse flies love to bite me and get in my face while I’m fishing. And it seems once they get a taste, there isn’t a force on earth can make them leave you alone unless you kill them. Then there are black flies. They get very bad for 2 weeks or so around mid June up here. Those things will eat you alive without you having any idea they’re even there until you get home as one big itch. If you’re out fishing during black fly season up here, you better pray for a breeze.
  23. 15 pound Berkley Big Game for backing.
  24. If we’re you, instead of bending the hooks out, I’d make the body of the frog softer and more collapsible by squeezing it in your hand for 20 minutes or so. I do this with all my frogs. Just work the plastic with your hands, and it becomes more collapsible and will improve your hook up ration while maintaining the weedlessness of the frog.
