  1. 50s and rainy yesterday melted most of the snow. Rivers are flowing. Lakes are getting some puddles atop the ice. We’re trending in the right direction. I’m cautiously optimistic that I’ll be fishing before April.
  2. Less than 2 weeks until we have regular season baseball! Dodgers and Cubs kick it off with a 2-game series in Tokyo on March 18th.
  3. And just like that, the Lakers are the 2 seed in the West. Luka was a +37 with 30 points and 15 assists last night.
  4. @TnRiver46 a baited Ned rig? I’ve thought about this. Wonder how often they bite the sinker. This would solve that problem. Along the same lines as putting hooks on the blades of spinnerbaits 😂
  5. Rivers are liquid again. A little viscous around the bridges but they’re flowing. Forecast is still looking good.
  6. 1. Braid or braid to fluoro leader 2. Yes. 3. Only you can answer this. How upset will you be if you lose the fish of a lifetime? If there is one piece of equipment in fishing that you shouldn’t cheap out on, it’s fluorocarbon line. In my opinion anyway.
  7. This is always rumored to be possible, I don’t know of any wolves that were actually tracked from Canada into northern NY. Between the northern Adirondacks and southern Canada, the land is actually very flat. Not great wolf habitat. They would have to travel more south until they reached the northern Adirondacks to find refuge. My own personal rule, unless I see pictures, mountain lion sightings are always bobcats and wolf sightings are always coyotes. Had a friend send me a picture of a “mountain lion” running across her front lawn. It was clearly a bobcat (tufts on ears and a stubby tail). Does a cougar pass through occasionally? Probably. But I don’t believe there are resident cougar populations in the state. Everybody and their mother has a trail cam or video door bell these days. One would show up eventually. But they haven’t.
  8. If you’re in Colorado, I recommend reading the posts of @Paul Roberts. He’s in Colorado, is incredibly knowledgeable and his posts I’m sure will contain some pertinent information for you. He also has a youtube channel called “The Nature of Fishing” that I recommend. He isn’t as active here anymore but his information is timeless.
  9. Have you noticed any correlation between an early or late ice out and your fishing results? I’m trying not to get my hopes up but almost every day on the 2 week forcast is above 40, with one day even supposed to crack 60. Snow is melting quick. The rivers are still frozen so of course the lakes aren’t even close, but 50° and rain can get things moving pretty quick. I’m beyond antsy.
  10. Come on, Spring!
  11. Nothing scarier than a flailing snot rocket with a face full of trebles.
  12. Doesn’t get much more epic than that. Incredible.
  13. MLF has a 2 minute penalty if a bass hits the deck. I like this rule.
  14. I’m in the camp of “I know it can’t hurt so may as well use it”. I also agree with those who say it probably doesn’t attract bass, but it may make them hold onto a bait a little longer. Another thing I use it for is a lubricant to come through weeds a little easier. Always megastrike.
  15. Temps dropping to single digits tonight, followed by a couple cold days but then it’s right back to mid 40s and 50s. Maybe we’ll make it out of March unscathed?? Maybe the water will open up? That’s the clown in me talking. See above.
  16. A senko rigged wacky style on a finesse hook.
  17. We call that “eliminating unproductive water”. It sounds better!
  18. Jigs and chatterbaits are 40lb braid to 25lb fluoro leader. Cranks are straight 12lb fluoro. Topwater is 10lb nylon.
  19. Followed by a 7. Insane.
  20. Ouch….I hope the fishing was good at least. And now you have a real excuse to have to buy more gear. Silver linings!
  21. Ice-out is still presumably over 30 days away for my part of upstate NY. But that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about what I’ll be rigging up when I can finally get the boat out on a thawed lake. I’ll be going out with 8 rods - 1 spinning and 7 casting. The baits ill have rigged up are: -Wacky senko 5” -3/4oz Rattlin’ Rap -MB Vision 110 JR -Alabama Rig -Catch Co. Bull Shad -Bladed jig -Siebert Outdoor 3/8 oz brush jig -Strike King 3/4oz double willow spinnerbait I’ll probably spend more time throwing the spinnerbait than anything else for the first trip post ice. But I spend more time huckin a spinnerbait than any other bait no matter the time of year. The last couple years I’ve gotten away from throwing a lipless early in the season but I wanna devote more time to it again. It was always a good producer in the spring for me. Also excited to spend more time throwing the A-rig and bladed jig. I told myself I was going to fish the bladed jig a lot more and try to make it a confidence presentation. So my fellow northerners who are still iced in, what do you plan on throwing that first trip out?
  22. NYS. The record was broken last year but the state is exploding now with huge smallies and largemouth. I think the record will change hands again soon. NY is having its moment.
  23. Couldn’t have written a more perfect script.
  24. @thediscochef in my opinion it’s the most blantant example of gross incompetence in the history of American professional sports. The ultimate bag fumble. There were even “thank you Niko” chants at the game while he was sitting in the stands. I think he knows he messed up. He must. In other news, that’s terrible about Wemby. Blood clots can be career ending. Hopefully he can get healthy and back to playing.
