Dobyns Football Jig question
Definitely not a finesse or lite wire hook. A MH rod is perfect.

Why can't I flip?!?!
First assumption is that the 20lb braid is digging in to itself like @T-Billy and @MN Fisher suggested. I use a minimum of 30lb braid on baitcasters, and for pitching it’s 40lb.

Tips on pickerel fishing?
Something shiny and fast moving like an in-line spinner is what you want for pickerel.

Your Moron Moments
I’ve told this story a couple times on here over the years. Maybe 8 years ago, it was April and the first time since the ice melted that I was going fishing. Pumped is an understatement of how I was feeling about going. Went to a lake where the only access is a private marina, pay to launch. So I pay my fee, back my truck down the ramp and launch my boat. As I slowly start to motor away, I look back, and there is my truck still on the ramp, every door wide open. In my excitement and haste, I forgot to park my truck after I launched ??♂️. The owner of the marina was standing outside looking at me very funny. I still laugh at my stupidity on this one.

Buying From Small Shops vs Big Shops
Fish307 in Lake George. I’ve heard from a few people that it’s a good shop. Good to know that the Wiggly Worm is still open. Haven’t been there in years but that was always my tackle shop a as a kid. Conroy’s and Nick’s were my other two, but they have both closed long ago.

Jig size and brand advice
I didn’t even know Dobyns made jig heads before I bought them, but I’ve been very impressed. I was looking specifically for a 3/4oz football head with no weed guard and the Dobyns ones seemed to be the only one that matched the exact specs I needed. They’re definitely quality and affordable.

Buying From Small Shops vs Big Shops
The few mom and pop shops that are still open around here usually just have live shiners and crawfish. If they do have tackle as well, it’s usually nothing more than some Mepps in-line spinners, Yamamoto senkos, and ice fishing or trout fishing rods. No much in the way of bass tackle unfortunately. There is one shop within an hour of me that specializes in bass, I’ll have to make my way there to check it out.

Not just the angle, it was definitely not in the best shape. Literally didnt move from when I hooked it until I released it. Hopefully it makes it. If that fish was a healthy weight it would be a sizable pike.

Topwater frog not producing
First thing is to make sure it’s actually bass hitting the frog. Little pickerel love to slap at frogs without getting hit. Downsizing to a Jr. sized frog should get more strikes and will make it easier for the bass to eat it, but you will sacrifice some casting distance.

The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
That has to be a lot of fun. After last years World Series I was trying to make my way to Atlanta for the celebration but I couldn’t make the time. If the Sixers got off to a good start this year I don’t know if the people of Philly would be able to handle it ?

The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
They better do the National League East proud. I am torn, as these are my least favorite teams in baseball. But I can live with the Braves losing to the team that goes on to become the champs. I don’t know if I can handle the cheating Astros winning another World Series.

Coworkers that suck..
Now my only co-worker is my best friend, and we’re in business together mowing lawns and landscaping, so I don’t have to worry about that anymore. But in my previous job; ten years doing glass work, there was always that one dude who was just a thorn in my side. And not always the same one, but a revolving door of thorns. One bad apple would leave, and I would think to myself “finally!”, but another idiot would always take their place. Every single time.

The Final Push ~
Knowing the hard water season is at my doorstep makes me more locked in. I always fish harder, faster, stronger in the final weeks. I know you’re the same way@A-Jay. Most of us northerners probably are. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing at least one more giant outta you before ice in.

I’ve actually seen this twice. One was a big dead smallmouth with a pumpkinseed jammed in its throat, and the other time was in Mexico, where a 7 or so pounder was floating dead with a big tilapia stuck in its mouth. That’s why I believe bass up here prefer yellow perch over sunfish. They’re slim bodied and easier to swallow. Yellow perch and golden shiners are the primary baitfish in my opinion, even though our lakes are loaded with all kinds of sunfish.

final month on fire
Great way to end the season, gimruis. Always easier to put the boat up knowing you crushed it at the end. That day is fast approaching for me as well. I hope to have a couple more trips.

Thank you sir. Ill never take having a chair for granted again. My boat has a nice comfy swivel chair but the bench it sits on needs some fixing so I’ve been going without it and just sitting on the bench. I’ll finally get some time to repair it over the winter and my back will thank me ?

Got my biggest pike of the year and one of only a couple which is very weird. Was the most lethargic pike I’ve ever caught. Hit like a wet rag, didn’t fight one bit as I reeled it in, and stayed perfectly still while I netted it, unhooked, and photographed it. Swam off like a torpedo though.

Air temperature was between 31-32 on my way to the lake this morning, and was up to 33 by the time I launched. A couple slightly warmer days in a row has the water temperature still at 53. Water was lower than I have ever seen it at this lake, and rendered most of my favorite laydowns unfishable. Fishing was tough. Had 2 bites, but they were good ones. Converted them both. 1 big bass and a near-three-foot esox, one of only a few pike catches this year which is very surprising. This fish has just munched on a good size meal, I could feel the fish in its belly. Then she decided to eat my spinnerbait. 5lb 1oz and 20.75”: The fun bycatch, also on the 3/4oz Strike King Tour Grade spinnerbait: Lake was calm as glass, and not a single other boat was out there. This is the time of the diehards. Only sound was the occasional gunshot from a distant hunter, and my lure hitting the water.

Senko/ fluke rod
Fenwick Elite. The 7’ MF makes a great senko rod. It’s more sensitive in my hands than other rods at similar or slightly higher price points. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-FENWIK.html?from=basres

Hope this is allowed.
Or “you’re going fishing again?!”. I wish she would tell me to stay on the lake longer.

Best Spiraling Fall Method(s) for Bass Fishing?
Try an actual tube jig head, the kind that goes inside the tube and you poke the line tie out through the plastic. On light line that will usually give you a good spiraling descent.

Dangerous experiences?
So the danger was for anybody who looked at you funny afterwards Was bank fishing as a kid and had a timber rattler sitting on a rock next to me without realizing. My dad just calmly told me to walk towards him without telling me why, so I didn’t panic and startle the snake. Then I looked back, and the thing was just sitting sort of coiled up on a big boulder right next to where I was standing. I’m always cautious when fishing on rocky shorelines now.
