  1. I have a bb1 pro and as far as I can bomb 1/2 oz lures with it, I'm glad it has the extra line capacity. Its by far the most versatile reel in my arsenal of lew's reels.
  2. Perhaps sand it smooth and look into a vinyl wrap?
  3. Braid: Smackdown. I just switched from tatsu to sniper and I like the sniper better. It seems to be far more abrasion resistant than tatsu. I loved the sensitivity of the tatsu but it was getting nicked up rather easily pitching docks. The sniper is pretty close to the sensitivity of tatsu, but takes a beating.
  4. Looks like I'm going to head to Conesus tomorrow (Sunday). It's probably going to be my last trip to the finger lakes this year. Getting close to time to winterize the boat.
  5. Coldsvt and I hit Waneta yesterday and did pretty well. Vegetation is dying off at a good rate. Also a sad sight for a dock fisherman: most docks pulled out and on the bank.
  6. Has anyone been fishing canandaigua? I've never been on that lake and was thinking of trying it in sunday.
  7. Four smallmouth with largest being 4.12. d**n nice bag, especially for the conditions. Mother nature sent us a pretty good message with the 1/4" of frost covering the dock.
  8. Early october you might be hitting prime fall foliage time. So you might run into an issue finding a place to stay during that time.
  9. I've found that rod angle has a huge effect on how the arashi runs. At the beginning of a cast, I hold the rod tip about waist high and slowly drop the tip during the retrieve to get it to wobble the entire time. I'm using 40# Smackdown with mine. Love how durable the Arashi is. I've banged it off of rocks and wood and expected broken bills each time, but they come back intact.
  10. Hit Lamoka on Friday. The weather forecast was way off. It was sunny and 60° when I left my place in central PA and 49°, drizzle, and 10-15 mph wind when I arrived at the launch. There were a few other boats out, but all of them were fishing deep. I went way back in the shallows and threw an Arashi wake bait over the shallow flats and around lily pads. It was the first time fishing the Arashi and it produced. I finished my day with 16 largemouth and 26 pickerel. All but one pickerel were on the wake bait and half the bass. The rest I caught pitching docks. Several 2 lbers with one 4.2 lber I pulled out from under a dock. It was miserable weather-wise, but I made out thanks to some quality rain gear and my Arashi.
  11. Have you guys had to deal with confrontations with homeowners where you're fishing? I've had the unfortunate luck of having things said to me about being too close to docks or just shore while fishing on Conesus, Honeoye, Keuka, and Waneta this year. I've never run into this before. Each time I was fishing around docks. I understand a homeowner being aggravated if you're casting your lures up onto the dock or smacking the side of their boats, but each time I was fishing open water around docks.
  12. I've been making the trek from central pa to the finger lakes all summer instead of fishing around here. Closing in on 2k miles for the summer just for fishing, but its been worth it!
  13. I used to use nothing but beavers, until I tried a pack of super hogs this spring. Now, its all I use. Watermelon candy had been the top color. They work great for pitching docks. When greased up with megastrike, they slide through grass extremely well. The only thing I dislike is that nobody local stocks them. I have no problem finding brush hogs and baby brush hogs, but no super hogs. Oh and after some experimenting, I found I like using a 4/0 hook with them. It puts the hook about as far back as it can go and still be able to bury the hook point in the body to keep it weedless. Hookup % increased after going to the larger hook.
  14. The weeds are thick around the docks for sure. I normally fish with beaver type baits, but they pick up a lot of weeds pitching the docks. So, I switched to the superhog because it slides through the weeds better. It has a slender tube-like body but has flappers on the back like a beaver. While it doesn't quite have the bulky profile of a beaver, it does have a lot of action with its various appendages. I rig it texas style with a 1/4 oz bullet and peg the weight. I will also grease it up with some Megastrike to help it slide through the weeds better. Another lure suggestion is a suspending jerk bait along the outside weed edges.
  15. I can't help with seneca specifically, but I've been fishing many of the surrounding finger lakes this summer. I was at keuka on tuesday. One approach that has produced fish on them all has been pitching soft plastics under docks. I've been using a zoom super brush hog with good success. This technique even works well in the middle of the day when the sun is high and the fish are looking for shade. What is critical is getting the lure deep under the dock. You won't get strikes from the outside edges. Most strikes come on the initial drop.
  16. Check out etrailer.com. They have galvanized wheels with tires for very reasonable prices.
  17. I went from 30# smackdown to 40# smackdown on one of my baitcasters and the 40# is noticeably stiffer. So you may want to try the 30. Its quite supple and may work on a spinning reel.
  18. I love my smackdown. I have it in 30#,40#, and 65#.
  19. I own a starcraft with an outboard jet, so I'm on the river often. I can tell you that I've observed those inboard jet Trackers running some very skinny water. So, that is a plus.
  20. Just an update. I replaced the breaker and all is well. I had checked the wires when the old breaker was tripping and they weren't even warm anywhere in the circuit. Replaced the breaker that came in the Trac rigging kit with a 50 amp Bussman breaker and all is well.
  21. Man do I wish Lew's would make a bb1 pro with a 8.1:1 ratio! Until then, I want that super duty.
  22. Norman weed walker is lots of fun.
  23. This is a seeing is believing situation. Just one day on thr water with quality glasses will answer your question. Btw, I have Costas with the glass lenses and they are amazing.
  24. 7'2" *** Green MH Lew's BB1 pro 7.1:1 40# Seguar Smackdown
  25. Using smackdown this season and loving it.
