  1. I like your argument, but I am pretty set on using braid since they point will be to throw into the thickest stuff and I don't want to get below 50lbs braid. I guess I should look for a F action in that case. Thanks for your insight!
  2. Do you use them for different distances or just different weights? How accurate is that H/XF? I'm considering a 7'6" H/XF myself, what's your opinion on this configuration?
  3. wow that would be amazing -- is it open to all the members of the forum or limited to US residents?
  4. I was looking at the Johnny Morris CarbonLite Baitcast Combo on BPS since they are on sale at the moment but their heavy rods have an XFAST action which doesn't seem ideal. What do you guys look for in terms of action for your pitching stick?
  5. Yeah I will be pitching a lot more than flipping. I already have a 7' MH so I was thinking off adding something like 7'4" H for pitching to heavier cover and also doubling as a frog rod. I'm still undecided what reel though. I know I want at least a 6.4:1 but over 7 would be nice. I was currently thinking either a Revo SX, Lews BB1, Daiwa Tatula 100 or maybe even a BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series. I know everyone has their favorite brand of reel, any thoughts on this lineup that would help me come to a decision?
  6. Hi! I'm going to be adding a new flipping rig to my arsenal this year. I have a few ideas already, but I was curious what the rest of you are using? Let's here it -- what's your favorite flipping/pitching rod/reel combo?
  7. I believe I use the same exact spinning setup, assuming that's a Fenwick EliteTech.
  8. I have a Fenwick EliteTech Smallmouth 6'9" M/XF Spinning Rod paired with Pfleuger Supreme MGX and I am very satisfied with this rod.
  9. Hey everyone! I picked up this rod last year and paired it with a Pflueger Supreme MGX. I am really enjoying the rod and have used it for multiple applications. I'm just curious thought what you guys think applications this setup would work best at? Thanks for your insight!
  10. Also in Canada... and d**n it's hard to see all these catches from people on Reddit and what not and knowing I still have months to go. I also start to go a little crazy around this time, just watch a ton of videos and read up in preperation for the upcoming season. That being said, I called the wildlife ministry in Qc and asked them about catching bass out of season since Pike fishing opens up a whole month before Bass fishing does and a lot of Pike lures will also work for Bass. I was basically told that as long as I don't have bass in the boat, I am okay. So as far as I can tell, it's okay to practice catch and release outside of the official season. Just be very gentle with the fish you catch since the reason it only opens in June is to ensure they have a safe spawning season.
  11. I'm sure others on this board will be able to provide better answers but I'll give it a shot. Do you have access to a topo of the lake? First thing I would do would be to identify spawning areas. These should be relatively flat areas in shallower water. As far as I know there could very well be multiple prime spawning locations on a given body of water, some might be better than others and attract more fish though. Once you have identified the potential spawning areas, look at the points and drop-offs leading up to those. The fish will usually start moving towards the spawning areas following the thaw but will hold to deeper water that has access to the shallower water. If you can find a piece of structure around that area, that could be a prime location to fish. I may be wrong but I believe that in the early pre-spawn fish will hold to cover in deeper water and move up to the shallower water to feed and then quickly retreat to the deeper water again. With a bit of work on a topo map you should be able to limit your search to a few key areas and save yourself a lot of time on the water. Again I'm no expert on the matter, I'm just trying to repeat the things that I've read or watched in various videos I've found online. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the more experienced anglers on this site have to say on the subject. Best of luck!
  12. Hey all, I have some experience fishing the carolina rig but I have yet to try the mojo rig. I was curious as to what scenarios one would want to use the mojo rig instead of the carolina rig? The two things that come to mind is on the mojo you can rapidly change how much line you leave behind the weight and those mojo weights looks like they would probably come through grass even better than a bullet weight. Anything I am missing? Is it more a question of the mojo works better with lighter presentations? Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide!
  13. After about 200 votes, there seems to be a pretty decent bell curve with about 60% of the people in the 18-35 age group, and the rest is split pretty evenly among those that are younger than 18 and those who are older than 35. As many of you have remarked, the survey could be flawed assuming a greater percentage of younger fisherman participated in the survey as opposed to the older generation which may not be as present online. However I can only conclude that fishing as sport seems to be in a pretty good place right now with a decent future. Not to mention that many of the anglers in the 18 to 35 group may be parents with young children (it is my case) and are likely to introduce the sport to their children when they come of age. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this little survey!
  14. There was a discussion recently on reddit with some members stated that they believed that fishing as a sport was on the decline. I set up a straw poll that was posted to reddit to see exactly what age group everyone belongs to and someone suggested that I post that poll to these forums. http://strawpoll.me/2723851 Thank you for participating!
  15. Hi, I am looking for a 2 piece crankbait rod -- Medium power moderate or moderate fast action, around 7' and ideally fiberglass. I am starting to think that this just isn't possible because the joint would prevent the rod from being a true parabolic rod. I am looking for a 2pc even though I would prefer a 1pc because I have a small car and travel a lot with my rod, and do a lot of bank fishing. Does anyone know of a rod that would suit my needs? Thanks!
