  1. Stick to the pad crashers or get my personal fave Scumfrog Trophy series. A word of caution about the Scumfrogs. They are (to me) for use in HEAVY Cover....which is what I use a frog for. They don't really do "Finesse Frogging" all that well. They are big, heavy, (I use the 5/8's) and work GREAT in the slop. They land with a PLOP that is unlike any other. I let them sit a bit after landing before giving a twitch. 90% of the time..THAT is when you get your blow up. I don't trim the skirts or anything else. I just fish the hell outta them. Do NOT get any of the BPS Kermy Frogs. Junk. Absolute junk. Never thrown a Spro. I have Booyah, Scumfrog, and Live Target. All three are used for different things
  2. Didn't see it....don't want to see it. I've written dumb stuff on forums, too. I'm guessing most of us have...especially on "mostly men" forums. I think we tend to forget these are public forums, especially if "adult beverages" are involved. Don't know if that's the case here but it looks like all is forgiven. Keep on keepin on.
  3. Good points all. I guess I make this harder than it needs to be. I don't use electronics. I fish by "feel" and experience. I also don't fish tournaments or anything like that. Do I catch less fish than those that use all these things? Yeah. Do I care? Sometimes. I have more frustrating days than others do, I guess. But that's ok I'm doing what I love to do and have no qualms with others doing their thing
  4. Ok...say it works PERFECTLY. Would you use it? I have my opinion but I'm curious as to those of others.
  5. Ok...wait a minute.....Let me start by saying that only you know what you can afford to spend on fishing gear. If you can afford "The Best" and that is what you want.....go for it. BUT!! ........with that said....bass don't see price tags. Pad Crashers are GREAT frogs and I (and a whole bunch of other folks) throw them all the time. My favorite frog is the Scumfrog Trophy Series. I can afford other frogs but I CATCH A LOT OF FISH with these. I can find them for 4.99 every day of the week. I don't fish cheap. My terminal tackle is the best I can afford. I buy quality lines. and so should you. But spending top dollar on lures will NOT make you a better fisherman. I would love to have a box of Roman Made Swimbaits but that would just be silly. Get some Pop'r's. Get some Jitterbugs for first or last light. Get some Hula Poppers. Throw them. Learn how to work them. There is a REASON they have been around forever. They catch fish and have for a LOOOOOONG time. Everything...and I mean EVERYTHING is a ripoff of a Hula Popper, A jitter bug, a Pop'r , a spook, A Devil Horse, or a Cavitron Buzzbait. My .02. Off my soapbox.
  6. Lot of money in that OP. What's wrong some good ol' Spooks and Pop'r's? Throw in a Jitterbug or 2 and I'm a happy topwater man.
  7. I used to be upset when I lost lures until I figured out it was affecting my fishing. I would shy away from throwing into areas that I knew had fish in it. Now I just figure it to be the cost of doing business. On my home lake you can go out into this one particular little stump field that is covered in muck and see my frogs decorating a bunch of stumps. Like some kinda crazy art installation. I have no way of getting them back until winter. I buy plenty, tie on another one and keep on fishing. If you can't afford to do that, this is the wrong hobby for you.
  8. I have these and I actually like them a lot. You see these guys advertise in magazines and, admittedly, their stuff looks pretty cheesy but these are really nice and the polarization is very good. My Mother bought them for me for Father's day and I was like...Oh boy..these are gonna suck. But they don't. http://www.stauer.com/item/eagle-eyes-navigator-black-sunglasses-free-navigator-gold-sunglasses-26642/26642
  9. 5/8 oz Scumfrog Natural Black/Green. For me there is 2 kinds of fishing. Frogging and everything else.
  10. I'm just starting to throw tubes.
  11. I'm sitting here looking at a box of it right now. I use it for leader line and it works great. 12 lb. Ties well and I've never had a break that I didn't cause.
  12. I'm jonesin for a Daiwa Morethan. No real reason other than I just want it
  13. Pflueger President. I just don't see any reason to spend more money on a spinning reel when This does EXACTLY what I want it to do every time I want it to do it.
  14. 48 here and my body is the result of a misspent youth. I have a titanium cage holding my spine together. My ankles click and pop to the point that anyone that knows me knows when I'm coming. Will need both knees replaced eventually. Take Mobic for arthritic shoulder joints...and knees...and ankles...and back. There will come a time when it's not the immediate activity that makes you hurt but the CUMULATIVE EFFECT of all the activities of your life. I played football like a man possessed. I water ski'd like a man with a death wish. Same with dirt biking. I worked in the oil fields of Southern Illinois. I laid block foundations. For all that, I still feel pretty good and I wouldn't go back and change a thing. I bear a lot of scars I'm proud of because I've lived my life without fear (most of the time). I've bungee jumped, belly flopped off 80 ft rock quarry walls, d**n near hung myself on gravel pit tree ropes, been set on fire. I was always the "Hold my beer and watch this" guy. I drank too much and did a lot of drugs. The thing is though...I've had no midlife crisis. I did it all. Those oats got sown a long time ago. Now...I fish. I work. I love my wife and my daughters. I'm a very happy and content man. I ache and I pop a couple of Advil and move on down the road with no regrets. In the words of Hunter S. Thompson....... "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
  15. My guess is this....you are not thinking....you are fishing. I am very good with a frog. When I'm froggin, I don't think about the technique. I just fish. I don't HAVE to think about it. Other techniques not so much. It means your mind and body have been trained to do this activity automatically. It means you are GOOD at it.
  16. Shhhhhhhhhhhh...........Scaleface is lying to you all. There are no Bass here. Go to Nebraska...they got all the bass. *psssst....Scale.....Me too*
  17. Illinois boy born and raised. Moved here (to Missouri) for work at 40. I couldn't believe how well managed the resources of this state are. The Missouri DNR is, as far as I am concerned, the gold standard by which all others should be judged. ESPECIALLY when compared to Illinois which is only good to serve as a warning to others how NOT to manage ANYTHING
  18. Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Minnesota...so far. Based on all the answers, I'm glad I live in MO
  19. Saw it....looked like something I would have to "deal with". I don't throw baits I have to "deal with". No thanks
  20. stik-o's cast fine on a bc. I have found that a lob cast works better than a whip cast.
  21. I use a LOT of soft plastics from a very small company ou of Butler Missouri called Sure-Fire Baits. If you're on Facebook (which is where you will find a ton of small makers) here is his site. https://www.facebook.com/Sure-Fire-Baits-564553220233779/
  22. The Illinois DNR has a tough time doing anything. One of the reasons I, an Illinois boy for 40 of my 48 years, moved to Missouri
