FYI if you get a baitcaster it won't be easy to catch panfish. Not impossible though

Start out with a Pflueger Trion combo with 8 lb mono. After you are bored with that get a baitcaster.

I fish small texas rigs on my 6'8" MH X-fast Powell 683. It's just a touch heavier than a medium, but not a true medium heavy.

As we trolled over to where this fish was, we noticed that instead of a single fish, we saw two fish stuck together in a manner I have never seen or heard of." What they found was a bass with a smaller bass in its mouth. "I assume these two were both after the same meal and ran into one another," said Keith. "The fish being 'eaten' was bigger than the one doing the eating. Both were pulled apart and released back into the lake where they both swam off."

I agree with Hogsticker as well. If you can catch a Max 3D on sale I'd get one of those. They come with Fuji Alconite guides. I have an Endurance 714 but haven't been able to fish it yet. It's a 7'1" H Rod rated 1/4-1 oz and I'll be using it as my jig rod.

It's all personal preference. If you want a lighter rod that won't wear you out, go graphite. If you want best of both worlds, go composite. **Although my Diesel 705CB glass rod is fairly light for a glass rod and I can fish it all day.
