I was using PP super slick, spooled on from this past summer. I don't know 100% if it was the line freezing up or not, but every now and then it would feel stiff going through the guides. Again, I don't know if it was due to the line being old or what.

I usually have 15 lb braid tied on, but after today's outing I took it off because the line kept getting icy as well as the guides. Is there any difference between mono / fluoro in this situation? Other than manageability

That sounds like an awesome combo. I would invest in a rod sock too. Whenever you get hung in the water don't try to yank your bait out with the rod. And don't lift big bass out of the water. Your rod has a good chance of breaking if you do.

If you were using a braid to leader setup, could you use the tag end of an alberto knot and tie the fluke on that? Instead of a swivel?

I have the older gen ***, and I imagine the new one is just as good.
