Accessing the Situation: The Pads
I'd try what everybody else said in the pads and then I would go to the trees on the other side and fish the shade there as well.Oh and don't forget the cypress roots on the right just behind the pads.I just know there's one in there waiting on a worm or jig.

Lizard question
I don't think the bass necessarily sees a lizard the same way we do.I thought about this one day when I watched a bream sneaking into a bass bed.The fish nosed down at the eggs and its side fins and tail were working. The bass came over and slammed into the bream and ran it off.I throwed worm after worm into the bed and no luck.I Trigged a watermelonseed lizard and whammo!I have a theory that the legs on the lizard imitate the fins on the nest robbers.Just a theory B.S, or otherwise lol.

Questions from a spinning pro, baitcast newb
I started out with my brake set where the lure slowly fell from the tip.Remember your thumb is the break however. As you get more used to casting you can start trying less and less brake. The main thing is practice. I also find when throwing lighter lures like unweighted plastic If I leave a little more line out past the tip before I cast it helps carry the line off the reel better. On heavier plugs I leave about 8 to 12 inches past the tip.Practice,practice,practice. I'm no means an expert this is just what works for me.I'm sure you'll get some good advice from others on here as well. Oh yeah and welcome aboard!

rat-l-trap and lipless crankbait what's the difference?
There is no difference so to speak.Rat-l-trap is just a brand name of lipless crank. They all probably work but the rat-l-trap seems to be one of the favorites.

red line - red hooks
I've never tried the red line. All the water I fish is stained most of the time.I have used red hooks and can not really tell if I caught anymore thana regular hook. What I can tell you from my limited experience is that I catch more fish on a watermelonseed or green pumpkin worm etc. with red fleck than I do without the red fleck. Why?Beats me. :-/

Big Worms, Need Help
I like a 10" black or moccasin power worm.

Fishing.. is it a sport or a hobby?
Football, baseball, etc, etc, are athletics. Fishing and hunting are sports. That's why they call us sportsmen.LOL I really have no idea but it seems like a good answer.

Sex(not what you think)
Is there a visual way to determine the sex of a bass(other than females being bigger.) Just one of those questions I often wondered about but was afraid to ask. :-/

first fish
My first was probably a rock bass or a catfish.Dad took us fishing for those a lot.Maybe a fall fish.I'll have to ask him. My son's first fish was a bluegill.

Fishing Bedding Bass
I'll throw to a bedded bass every once in awhile.Like basschaser said I like to watch them react to the lure.If it doesn't hit my first few offerings I move on. I'm sure that all of us have caught bedded bass that we haven't seen whether we like to catch them off te bed or not.JMHO.

What's Your Favorite Fishing Smell?
That clean watery smell on the lake, just as the sun comes up and warms the air enough to make a slight breeze. And marshmallows over a campfire.

Going Saturday
Good Luck. Some of my best cold water baits have been tubes fished very slow.

08, new lure or tactic
For me jigs and carolina rig. Also would like to fine tune my lipless crank and topwater fishing.I've also been making myself go out on the colder and windier days to get more time on the water.

CoAnglers
In the little county club that I was in,you and the nonboater fished as a team.If you won or one of you caught big fish you split the money.Never had any problems. Also you always fished teh season with the same partner and if he wasn't available you could bring a guest one time. After that the guest would have to join.Pretty laid back and no a$$holes to deal with.

Best fishing mags?
I like Bassin'.I also like to pick up local or state specific magazines too.(woods-n-water,Fish and Game, etc,)

Fronts
I don't think the dropshot is limited to deep water. As for your choices you described I would fish the docks and the brush.Throw back under the docks and overhanging trees as far and as tight to it as you can get.And fish it very slow. Also seeing that you mentioned Louisianna and a swamp I'm gonna assume you have some cypress trees.Throw up tight against the portion that's out of the water and peel off some line so it falls parallel to the trunk. This way it settles down in the root bundle whee they like to hide. The lures you've been using should work well in these scenarios.

Fish Swallow Hook
In my experience anytime I hooked a fish and it lost bloodand I threw it back,I was chasing it down with the net because it usually turned belly up.So now if it bleeds I try and give it to somebody who'll eat it.
-
Fish Swallow Hook
So essentially the best method is to set the hook before they get a chance to swallow it?

Concerned about a public pond
If it's beavers they aren't eating fish so no worries. If it's otters consult the help of an old smelly trapper(if it's legal in VA.)
