  1. it's nothing anybody doesn't know about. Cherokee, NC the oconaluftee
  2. i'm hopefully going again on sunday. been traveling up to western, nc instead of my normal stompin grounds in south carolina. they just stocked south carolina and it's delayed harvest so by january there will be lot's of good fish swimming around.
  3. that is just the freshly stocked trout, once they've seasoned in river eating natural forage they taste pretty much the same. one of the easiest ways to tell the difference especially on that river is the Adipose fin between the dorsal and tail is clipped before it's stocked. that stretch of river you fished is Gold medal and you are fined heavily for poaching. that leads to a larger quantity of wild. I've caught both from that stream. Usually the color on the stockers is duller, and they are more beat up, partly due to the conditions in the hatchery tanks and competing for feed. The wild trout are more territorial and don't usually invade another trouts space. The wild fight harder, but it depends on where they are from, the time of year(trout are much more sluggish in the hotter months), and size. That section is hit hard by anglers so the wild are no easier to fool than the stocked. if they've been there longer than one season they have seen every fly known to man, and every presentation known to man. I got there one morning on the South Platte and was the first angler there, by 9 AM i looked behind me and counted 20 anglers within a few hundred yards. The wild in many small mountain streams are usually easier to catch because they see fewer flies and have to take every opportunity to feed. here are few pics i took out there last year.
  4. when i first saw it i thought it must have come from the soque. you've got some hand fed pigs in that river. definitely need to get down to North GA to fly fish.
  5. All my previous pb's were on plastics, so imma say plastics
  6. I just checked and they do say on their website that you can fish the ponds from the bank. Here is the website link http://williamsburgoutside.com/2012/02/19/warhill-sports-complex/ last time i tried the park had just opened and we were told to leave. before the park opened we would get there at 6am and fish till noon. a normal day meant 20+ fish and a few in the 4 range. just throwing buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. i caught an 8 pounder post spawn one day.
  7. It's too bad the built the Warhill Rec center and now run you off for fishing that pond. We used to absolutely clean up there before they opened the park. i'm coming back to town in early september and trying to decide whether i have to stones to chance dragging my canoe over there.
  8. a few weeks ago while fly fishing, i was landing a 6" rainbow and one of the largest rainbows i've seen came out and took three swipes at him. my guess it was a territorial move more than an act of hunger in this case.
  9. I'd be interested in knowing if the new "lake association president" is making money off the anglers launching on his property. seems like something that should be shared or used to make improvements to the lake.
  10. ♫imma Micropterus outlaw, half largemouth and choctaaaaw♫ i'll see myself out.
  11. i get on youtube through my blueray player and watch fly fishing(and bass fishing) videos on my tv all the time. there are some amazing videos out there. it's a nice way to spend an evening.
  12. great video. i'd love to get on bass like that with my fly rod. i really need to step my casting up.
  13. just last week i caught a fish that had wrapped my buddy around a log and snapped the line. he had a hook and about 5' of line hanging out of his mouth. an hour and a half passed between the first and second strike.
  14. caught one Friday night on a fluke. about a three pounder
  15. Last summer a bass took my trick worm and I set the hook, this was a big fish and my canoe swung around, I was standing and lost my balance, the next thing I know my rod and reel are flying from my grip and over the side of the canoe. This is not a pond you want to be in the water, so I spent the next ten minutes trying to dredge it up with my anchor to no success. Terrible day, terrible story to tell, and I'll never know how big that fish was
  16. we still have some bream spawning around here. the bass go wild during that time getting the easy meal. i know i always fish around bream beds when i see them. ive landed some of my largest bass during that period.
  17. i started at 16(now 32), watched a banjo minnow infomercial and i was sold. Optimism, blind dogged faith i'm going to catch something.
  18. I would think Lake Wateree, Marion, and Monticello would all be better producers, but i don't fish out there and have zero personal knowledge.
  19. weightless soft plastics. i tend to stick to natural forage colors for the pond. type of soft plastic doesn't seem to matter much for me.
  20. remove all of the hair from your body
  21. love when I come across these guys. awesome fighters.
  22. These were from the Davidson river on a private section. I dropped my phone and the camera fogged over after these pics. So, I couldn't get pics of the big bows I caught later in the morning. Had some huge misses, they were loving dry flies(even though these took a BH hairs ear). At one point I had just set the hook on a 6" bow and a 20+ fish came out of no where and began chasing it. Got hold of it twice. Crazy thing to watch. I've got a few more half day passes for this section. I'll update next time if I get anything good.
