  1. Oh, 1 thing I forgot to mention is if you think you are going to be kayaking alone in an area where there might not be other people, let someone at home know you're going out and what time you will be back. It may sound silly at first, but it can get a little creepy sometimes when you are alone and it's totally quiet and you think about what would happen if you flipped over and got hurt somehow or lost your phone. Better safe than sorry I say.
  2. It is awesome isn't it. Getting out there really opens up the location possibilities.
  3. I have been using a 25 foot retractable dog leash with a 1.5 pound anchor for the past 2 years, works great and in an emergency you can just toss it overboard. I fish in large lakes with slow currents. Sporting goods stores sell rubber coated barbells which would probably work in slow currents I would think.
  4. I would also alert authorities, but would not personally confront. I worry about someone taking revenge on my car while I'm out on the lake. If they're willing to steal, who knows what else they are capable of.
  5. If there is a bass pro shops near, you can fully outfit . I have their Ascend FS-10 $499.00 and Malone Kayak Carrier roof rack $119.00.
  6. Never get on boat left foot first. Might as well go home.
  7. I used to keep mine in a 10 gallon fish tank with screen lid. They like an empty egg carton to hide in.
  8. Looks like a super comfortable seat there. Nice.
  9. I used the scotty threaded deck mount on my kayak. I just had to drill the hole, then screw the mount in. It is very low and does not interfere with portage or carrying.
  10. Nice fish. I caught my first one last summer.
  11. I always make sure I have a fixed blade knife and whistle attached to my person...and of course my pfd.
  12. Two years ago I dropped R/C airplanes like a hot potato once I got serious about fishing and kayaking. So now I fish/kayak/canoe in summer and melt my brain in winter playing video games.
  13. Since I am an apartment dweller, kayak fishing is the only way for me to get out on the water. I keep my kayak in my apartment. (needless to say, I am not married)
  14. You can catch them with a Rebel Crikhopper if you feel like using a lure.
  15. My largest "boat" is a 16 foot canoe, but i mostly fish alone from my 10 foot kayak. The main reason is I can carry the kayak on my shoulder and it only takes 5 minutes to get off the roof rack and on the water. I use my 16 foot canot for when I fish with someone else.
