I use fluorocarbon for anything bottom contact, or when I need a uniform sink rate. Braid plus leader makes a “hockey stick” shaped presentation where you either have to reel up line quickly to take the slack out, or sometimes… miss bites altogether. Applications that are always fluoro for me include: crankbaits, Neds, dock skipping wacky worms/flukes, Free Rig, Scat baits, paddletails/underspins…

You’ll likely get interference when combining various electronics off of one battery. I did, and went with Amped Outdoors 32ah FFS battery and haven’t had any issues since.

The body of the FG knot is the smallest, however when you tie the hitch knots at the end - they are on par width-wise with an Alberto knot which is easier to tie and extremely strong. I really hear the hitch knots of my FG knots going thru the guides, never been hung up, but the claim of being the thinnest is not entirely accurate.

You know, I think that’s the one I was trying to remember that is fairly decent cutting through light/moderate grass… How about “Cajun Gill” color !?!

Murphy’s Law on the weather but you’ll get there. Glad you’re keeping your Helix just in case. I had mine up for sale and a couple interested buyers when I realized the GT52 just wasn’t as good. That’s when I made the center bar and kept them both. Won’t know til you get on the water with the GT54, but I’m really interested in your input on this. Thx

Good for you, I think you went the right way with Livescope+ over MegaLive. I will be curious how you like side imaging with the GT54. I got a GT52 with my 93x last year and it did not pick up the rock piles I’m used to seeing on my Helix 7. That’s why I did the center mount and kept both units.

I would guess most co-polymers are like YZH and therefore “neutrally buoyant.” I have watched my jerkbait depth on Livescope and have used both YZH and Invizx fluoro and they are about the same depth. YZH maybe retrieves a little higher in the water column (6-12 inches higher?) but that may be as much due to the fact it is a slightly thicker diameter line (.010 vs. .011).

Wow, sounds like a really tough day. You plan for these things and the wheels can still come off. You and I are going to skip Lake Murray, maybe something will be in the cards later this season or next year.

Yes, I have 4 pocket fisherman laid out on each side of my front deck… you never know when you’ll need to cast a variety of different lures - or maybe rattle off a bunch of julienne-cut fries!!

I wonder if that includes her trailer as well. OTW trailers can run another $3-5k. I went the cheaper route but still spent $1k for a freeway-grade trailer....

I'm a combination of both sit/stand but probably sit 2/3 of the time. And that's exactly why I built the center mount for my kayak. Side mounted electronics definitely got in the way for me and I needed a new solution. I really like the mount I have because it sits down low and out of the way, yet has great visibility. Honestly, if the Sasquatch bar were available when I needed one I probably would have bought that. But as I look at it, it sits up another 3-4 inches higher than the one that I built. That would be a legit concern for me, but at the same time I haven't heard anyone that has one say that its a problem, because its so much better than a side mount. As far as pulling the motor up to clear weeds, the center mount is not in the way either... I mostly agree, but... while I miss my bass boat often, there are some advantages of having just a motorized kayak. I can get into some areas other traditional boaters can't and secondly I can go back and forth between freshwater and salt and not worry about ruining my boat.

Koz, I'm in your exact boat... aka kayak AP120. Similar age, same ambitions... I had been planning on my first Kayak Bassmaster tournament at Lake Murray and maybe one other. Life happens and we moved 2000 miles and I started a new consulting role Jan 1 so doesn't look like the plan at least for this year. Yes, I took the Livescope plunge last year. I had it on my bass boat before moving and couldn't imagine exploring new water on my kayak without it. I have a Garmin 93x and a Fishing Specialties mount. The side imaging for the Garmin transducer I have wasn’t as good as my Helix 7 so I have both set up. Hard to beat Humminbird SI in my opinion... and I believe Livescope+ (which is generation 3 technology to be superior to Mega Live which is Gen1). I really don't like the side mount electronics so I DIY'd my own center mount for about $80. I couldn't be happier with it - its light, sits low and out of the way and is incredibly sturdy. The acid test on a center mount is if you could fall on it (it happens) and not bend/break. This passes that test and other aftermarket options I've seen I'm not sure (no way on the Hobie rail mount but maybe on the Sasquatch bar). And yes, the kayak monkey is real...
