Fantasy Fishing 2019 - Official Thread
We are underway on Cayuga Lake. 8:30AM local time and 3 anglers already have over 16 pounds, including Chris Zaldain with 18.5lbs! This one could be a slug fest.

Is 2’ Between Connection and Hook Sufficient?
2' is probably about the minimum for stained water. If you've got clear(er) water, I'd go around 5-6'.

Best rain gear for a Canada fishing trip?
My Huk bibs and jacket have served me for 3 trips to Ontario now (7-10 days a piece) and haven't let me down. As with any quality rain gear, expect to drop $3-500 for the set.

Hooks not penetrating ? Hookset help?
I'm going to put the blame on the Medium powered rod here. Using a heavy wire hook takes a stouter rod to drive that hook into the boney parts of a bass's mouth. I'll personally fish a texas rig on my medium powered rods, but I'll always use a lighter wire hook if I do.

New to bass spinnerbait fishing
Dirty water conditions are known for being great spinnerbait water. Mainly because of the thump and flash that they put off. It makes it easier for the fish to sense the bait in the water whenever visibility is low.

2020 Elite schedule
This. I have a feeling that there are quite a few guys who switched to MLF that aren't making any money and they are dying to get back into BASS. To quote myself from a post I made on here earlier in the summer: Now, looking over the link posted above now, there are still 5 guys who have made $0 all season. There are also 20 guys who haven't cleared $20k for the year yet. And that KVD fella looks like he's up to $24k on the year. For reference, he made $171k last year in BASS.

Leader vs Heavy braid to save my Swimbaits from Mr. Pike
Most muskie guys are using fluoro leaders with 80-120lb. Search around online and I'm sure you could find some muskie leaders.

Show Off Your Work!
I've been working on a few different bluegill colored skirts. I'm really happy how this one on the swim jig turned out.

Single tail or double tail Curly Grubs
I normally just use a single tail. But in the spring time a double tail on a chatterbait or spinnerbait can be deadly around here.

It's been a bit of a break since the last event, but we have 12 days until blastoff at St. Lawrence. Get your picks in boys!

Rapala scale.
I don't own the model you posted, but I see lots of pro's using them on their boats in videos, so they must not be too bad. This model is great if you're trying to keep track of all of the fish in your livewell. I do however own this model. I've had it for about 4-5 years now and it seems that they've changed the appearance of it some, but mine has never let me down. I've checked it by weighing known weight objects to see its accuracy and it's always on. So for that, I'll say that the Rapala scales are pretty accurate. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_Pro_Guide_Digital_Scales/descpage-RPGDS.html

Gene Larew Rock Banger
I bought two packs a while back because they looked neat. Once I got them, I pretty much discarded them to the pile of "This will never get fished". They're a big, thick chunk of plastic and the plastic packaging was not supportive of them. I'd imagine getting a good, reliable hookset on a hunk of plastic that thick and short would be quite difficult.

How many beads on spinnerbaits?
This. I generally put one bead in front of the clevis, and then usually 3-4 behind it (1/8" or 5/32"). This works well with any #3 or #3.5 size blade.

Why I fish but do not hunt since age 12.

Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch for Frogs?
I don't own this rod, but I have researched it in the past and I remember Chris Zaldain saying that he uses a Perfect Pitch for frogging.

Multiple Species question
A big ole spinnerbait would be my choice.

what to rig for deep ledges if I have 2 rods on a boat?
If it were me, I'd have a dropshot rigged up on one rod. And on the other rod, I'd be alternating between a football jig and a 1oz jighead with a Keitech on the back.

Making My Own Spinnerbaits
I don't think I have any Indiana's bigger than a 4. Guess I'll need to order more stuff...

Bass tournaments do you always need a boat?
As many others have stated, joining a local club that allows non-boaters to get partnered up with boaters is the best way to go. However, if you're asking if you could fish tournaments from the bank, the question that comes into play is keeping your fish alive without a livewell. For that reason, most tournaments will not allow people to fish from the bank.

Any strange prejudices against lures?
Drop Shot Whopper Plopper I know they work, but I'm not a fan.

Best small and light baitcaster?
The Aldebaran is pretty much the king of small and light if you are a Shimano guy. If you need more line capacity, the Chronarch and Metanium MGL's are phenomenal reels as well.

Making My Own Spinnerbaits
Thanks for the advice! I didn't know if there was a correct way or if it didn't matter. I appreciate the advice.

Making My Own Spinnerbaits
Here's a few of my first few baits I built. I love these black nickle blades. This bluegill color is exactly what I have been looking for in a skirt. I'm really proud of this one. Goby and bluegill skirts side by side. It took me 3-4 baits to finally perfect how to make this loop perfectly, but I think I've got it figured out now.
