  1. Clayton would definitely know best. A buddy of mine did really well back in the river this weekend, water temps were surprisingly normal-ish, 76-77. I think any of the usual spots will produce fish, I.E. east end of the dam up into the corner. Not sure what main lake temps are like, but I'm sure there are plenty of fish in the grass.
  2. You'll have to put in work for them, but they're in there. Just be prepared for possible disappointment.
  3. PS: Was it Adam W. or Adam K. that talked to my dad at the Eisenhower ramp on Saturday morning? He thought that was really cool.
  4. Had a group of guys from Jopin who have a little fishing show on KSN contact me for a Melvern trip to do a show. Launched at 6:30 (thankfully before the Topeka Bassmasters did). Fished until 2pm. Awful, high bluebird skies and not a stitch of wind. Did still find a few wolfpacks chasing shad on a few of my spots, which is where my swimbait fish came from. Otherwise it was all a tube and the Ned (which those guys had never heard of). They are firm believers now. Not ideal, but the conditions called for it, so we gave it to them, and the guys had a great time with it. Caught probably 50 fish between the 3 of us, best five going 12 lbs. Biggest just over 3#. Pretty good considering the conditions. Good group of guys to work with and had a fun day, they were loving it. Will be there tomorrow with Conor, and I have back to back guide trips Saturday and Sunday.
  5. You guys are too much with the background stuff.
  6. I've fished Melvern the past two weekends during tournaments and it hasn't had any effect on the fishing, for me at least. Like Adam said, plenty of places to fish. The Brownies are everywhere. Will be out on Sunday this weekend.
  7. Lone Star put out a few good ones last night. Got to break in my new custom 1.5 from Doc on a 3 lb. 14 oz. that absolutely choked it. Thankfully the trebles didn't actually cut into her gills, I was able to reach up underneath and just push the bait out. After a pic and a weight, she kicked off nicely. Shortly after a chunky channel had me thinking I had another 3-4# fish. Everything else came on a blk/blue Wobbler. I think I saw Raymond from Mondo out there too. Great night! Might go back this evening for a little birthday trip.
  8. Just that time of year. I've been 5 out of 6 weekends now. Don't see any change through November at least. Smallie fever.
  9. I have openings all through October. More than welcome to get out.
  10. Gets way better. October is gonna be awesome.
  11. Try to not be too jealous of this gem. I certainly am. #whydidntigetone
  12. Melvern Saturday > Melvern Sunday. The high pressure system really pushed them off a bit, but we still found em. And I found my new personal best, 3 lbs. 12 oz. Still just shy of that 4# goal. And Conor got a free marina souvenir which was a good "cap" to the day. HEH HEH HEH. Also went through a massive school of feeding Gar in the back of Turkey Creek. Had one annihilate my Buzz's squarebill and ended up landing it, which was super fun. Never caught one in the mouth like that. Melvern on Sunday was a bit tougher. There was also a KState tournament launching from Eisenhower when we got there. Mostly just wanted to get Charles on some fish, which we did. He tore them up. Nothing of notable size, but plenty over 2. He had a blast and it was a super nice day.
  13. We've been putting in some serious work the past month or so and pretty confident we can do it. 15-18 for sure. Before 2015 is over regardless! I just want to live there...
  14. Conor and I will be there Saturday, and DJ and I on Sunday. Shooting for that 20# bag
  15. I second this motion.
  16. I'll be at Melvern Saturday and Sunday morning. I feel like I won't be the only one on here that's going either of those days.
  17. Don't think I'm gonna be one of those 2000 beating it up this fall unfortunately.
  18. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
  19. I like a 4.3" Keitech, or any soft swimbait like a Swimming Caffeine Shad rigged with a Gami weighted swimbait hook. But you're right Coty, I can't justify $50 for a Bull Shad when those big girls will eat a Spook all day.
  20. That's the main reason I fish a Spook 97% of the time, and follow it up with a 3.5" tube if they're rolling on it and not getting hooks. Big fish baits.
  21. Don't sleep on BHWs....I started with two, now I have ten. Excellent bait!
