For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Clinton is so clear I barely even recognize it anymore. Zebra Mussels are definitely the culprit, unfortunately. With that, I have run into quite a few of these guys while Crappie fishing the past week. Can't complain.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Had a pretty awesome and exhausting weekend. My Dad and I fished a Crappie tournament at Clinton to benefit the special olympics. After battling rain and wind since 5:30am, we came out in 4th place out of 28 boats, with ten fish at 7.46 lbs., and my Dad's big fish at 1.23 lbs. Walked away with $150 and great memories for my Dad and I. Couldn't be happier. Took the first trip this season to Melvern on Sunday. Weather was not what we expected at all. Very cold and very windy. But we still managed to catch a few fish on the typical Melvern spread. I caught 5 different species, including my first Melvern Sauger on a Sizzle 110. Made a really rough run down to Turkey Creek, didn't yield as much as I'd thought. Ended the day on the dam. My 2.10# Smallie came on a Buzz's pink 110. Could have been better, and left by noon, but I'll be back next weekend.

Thought I would weigh in as well, since this was my first time ever fishing LOZ. It was an absolute blast and forever changed my perception of the lake. Got in Thursday evening, and had all of Friday to pre-fish. We stayed at about the 8.5mm on the mainlake, so we had a pretty good milk run of spots marked all the way up to the Gravois arm every day. I've never gotten to sight fish to many bed fish in my life. Man was that fun. Granted, most of them weren't what we were looking for tournament-wise, but we just enjoyed catching tons of fish on a huge, new body of water. DJ's first chunky Kentucky Just over 3.5, caught outside of tournament hours on Saturday evening before 7pm. There were two fish sitting on two beds about 3 feet away from each other that we'd beat up and couldn't get either to eat. I had my buddy tie on a shaky head with a finesse worm, and within three minutes, she ate. Super nice Spot. So then, after about 5 minutes she went straight back to her bed. I pitched my shaky head up to her, and she ate AGAIN on the first try! Right as I was landing that fish, DJ had the second bed fish on. Ended up right over 3lbs. That was so much fun. Caught my new PB Spot, 2 lbs. 11 oz. I saw this fish sitting on her bed directly under a dock cable. I maneuvered in and pitched up to it, and first cast went right over the cable It was hanging perfectly right on her bed, and I saw the dark silhouette turn and go straight at my shaky head, and before I knew it she was on and thrashing around with my leader rubbing all over the cable. I hit 5 on the trolling motor and got up to her with just enough time to give her a run or two and land her before my leader (probably) would have broken. Awesome fight. This was the fish we ended up getting to go and weigh in at Alhonna on Sunday afternoon. We'd fished this bed since Friday and could not get her to eat, but knew it was a big fish. We were up in the Gravois arm on our last spot(s) of our milk run, and the cove we were fishing had a strong wind blowing right into it. I positioned the boat so that the back end was facing the deep bed (amongst 2 cables and 2 trees), and the boat was sitting perfectly up against the dock. I was retying my leader when all of the sudden DJ had her hooked. She made runs into the trees below us, so in a panic I crawled up to the trolling motor and hit 5 to get us away from all of that. When she jumped for the first time we were convinced it was a 6 lber. After a few hairy runs on light spinning tackle, I had her in the livewell and we were off to weigh in. She ended up at 4.17, which had us tied for 12th at 2pm. We stayed in and around Alhonna and kept refreshing the live results page to see where we'd end up. We knew we didn't have much hope, as after about 10 minutes our names dropped further down the list, and by 2:45 we'd been bumped out of the money. Had this been a 5 fish bag tourney, we would have had close to an 18-19lb bag on Sunday! But, it was an epic trip, and we caught so many 2-3# fish and had so much fun and have so many good stories, it was all worth it. My Kentucky was definitely a top highlight. There were definitely a few fish we should have maybe taken in for the exact weight, but it was pretty hectic. No regrets. I will definitely be back in October for the fall one. Sorry for the long post! See you guys tomorrow.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
What a weekend it was. Posting in here for folks that didn't get to see it on FB. I knew there was a double-digit Wiper in my near future, but did not expect her to show up on Saturday. I got my boat back from the shop Saturday morning and decided to get out for a few hours alone. Lots of wind and murky water. I caught 4-5 dinks before hitting one last spot and gave myself the famous "one last cast" line. Well my jerkbait got slammed and was in for quite the fight. Honestly at first I was convinced I'd snagged another mongoloid carp or flathead, and was just along for the ride at that point. I followed her around the cove with the trolling motor, as I didn't want the hooks to pull just so I could see what it was (8lb Fireline with my ML Vendetta, didn't want to take any chances). I played it right, and when she surfaced I freaked. Biggest Wiper I'd ever seen, it didn't even look real. Of course I left my net in the truck, so it was on me to tire her out and hand land it with a face full of treble hooks. I flipped my aerator switch and went to work. The first weight I took locked in at 12.2 lbs. The second time it locked in at 12.1, when I took the photo. Length was 27.5", girth was 20" even. I told myself the first DD Wiper I got would be mounted. So I'm going to do just that. What an incredible fish. I took it to a buddy's house in Eudora where we wrapped her in a wet towel to protect the scales and fins, then into a vacuum sealed bag and straight into the deep freeze. What an incredible fish. I'm still in awe. The GoPro video is out on my YouTube channel if anyone knows where to find it. Can't post it in here due to the expletive language of my excitement. The fight itself was probably upward of 10-12 minutes, but didn't get the GoPro on until about the last 3. I couldn't resist getting back out on Sunday, but the lake was windier than I've ever seen it. So we slowed things down and fished a protected cove. Managed a few pretty decent keepers on jigs and jerkbaits both (would have liked to have them on Thursday ), this one at 2.9# on a jig. And finally my first fish on my new Lews. Can't wait to see what the Wiper mount will look like.

The last 5 pounder I caught at Lone Star a week or so ago choked my triple grip jerbait so badly I had to break the cutters out. I have also never seen anything like that, lol.

In the midst of my being completely exhausted from fishing the Walleye spawn every night until after midnight, I managed to find another horse of a Wiper this weekend. Hit like a freight train on a jerkbait again. This one was 25" just at 7#. Fought like a LM all the way to the boat so it was a bit of a heartbreaker, but can't complain. Caught another 5# shortly after. Still a lot of very active fish, but as you can see in the pictures, could have used a bit more of a breeze. Should make April 2nd pretty fun, watch out!

I also have a 73dv. Clayton has a 93sv, which does have side scan. Garmin can now definitely say that they have the clearest scanning sonar on the market. The LakeVu HD maps were a huge selling point for me. Most of the lakes I fish have up to 1' contours. DownVu is also pretty awesome. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Great way to cap off an already awesome weekend. Another 15+ fish day, and this 3.5. Now I think it's time to take the boat in for a few fixes and get in on the very short Walleye spawn window.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
My own little slice of heaven has been good to me. Got out on Friday evening and had quite a time. Fished nothing but a jerkbait the whole time. I caught a few small ones, and a 2.89 that was pretty fun. I decided to fish the arm adjacent to the arm with homes. I haven't put much time into it at all, but knew it had a steep break and deep water access. Within 4 casts, I'm hooked up with something big. After the first few seconds, I knew it was not a giant Bass, but rather a giant Wiper. After an incredible fight, no net, and a face full of jerkbait treble hooks, I managed to get her on the scales. 9.14 LBS. 27 INCHES. Unbelievable. Biggest Wiper I've seen in person, what a fish. It was an awesome way to end the evening. Water temps were 48-51. My dad came out this morning to see if I could put him on some Crappie at Clinton. It was extremely windy and choppy, and a lot cooler than we anticipated. We bailed on it and went to plan B. I didn't think the weekend could get much better after Friday's trip, but it did. Again, fished nothing but the same jerkbait the whole time. I taught my dad how to properly fish it, and he was on fish in no time. I was so proud. Between us we probably put 20 in the boat, including my 4.23 pounder, which was an amazing bite on a jerkbait. Soon after that fish, I snagged a giant Carp in the tail. Fought it for probably 10 minutes and chased it around with the trolling motor, only to have it shake the jerkbait boatside. I'm not too upset, but it was probably pushing 20 pounds haha. I should have checked my knot afterwards, because shortly after I snagged on deep brush, and lost my Pro Blue. Other than that, it was another great day.
