  1. What kind/size would you use for all 3?
  2. Go to academy's website and look at the reel. Look in the Q & A section. It's normally in there for some of the reels
  3. Call their customer support line. They will probably be able to help you the quickest and most accurate
  4. For the money they're good. Definitely good back up rods or starter rods for someone getting away from buying combos.
  5. Hey everyone! I have been using this setup for some time with moderate success for 3 different applications. Just trying to get some input of if I should change anything or keep going with what I have. I am happy with the rod/reel, but I have been considering changing my line to maybe a heavier Mono filament. Thoughts? TIA everyone. H2O Xpress Mettle All Star Rods® AST Series 6'10" MH Freshwater Casting Rod Moderate-Fast 50 lbs braid with the occasional FC leader for Swim jigs in clearer water.
  6. I was just curious. I have a setup for flipping already, but want to have another for a quick lure/presentation change. The Motive is my next buy RFSims. I've heard it's a decent one for the money. And it's going to be on a 13 *** 7' Heavy Fast Action.
  7. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I do not know a lot about how reels operate. I have one and really like it, but I want to speed it up and use it for a flipping and pitching reel since it re-engages the spool when you depress the thumb button. The 6.3:1 is decent, but I am curious if it can be increased?
  8. I'm surprised we haven't seen the Ned Rig more on MLF. It's all about getting as many pounds in the boat as possible. It's my favorite format of Pro fishing!
  9. As others mentioned adding a trailer will help you out plenty. Just be sure your brakes are set good.
  10. If it were only 2 then for me it would be the following 1 MH Baitcaster with 50# braid for frogs, buzzbaits, and spnnerbaits. Then tie on a FC leader for T-rigs, jigs, and C-rigs. 1 M Spinning with 27# braid and a Mono leader for dropshotting, small jigs, poppers, and maybe small crankbaits.

Like others have said I don't use a net. Granted I haven't lost a fish yet, but I do use grips as soon as I can get them close enough for them.
  12. If $150 is what you're looking for then get a Lew's Speed Spool reel for $100 and a $50 Allstar MH rod from Academy Sports and Outdoors. A very reliable setup for a beginner. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/lews-tournament-laser-speed-spool-tlz1h-low-profile-baitcast-reel-right-hande?repChildCatid=976322 http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/all-star-rods-classic-graphite-series-7-mh-freshwater-casting-rod?repChildCatid=700656 Both are actually on sale right now....
  13. I finally got my hands on some Ned Rig tackle and hope to get on the water with it soon. I want to throw it exclusively all day to see how many I can catch. Question....Is it possible to throw it on a baitcaster? I have a spinning setup, I just really prefer baitcasters.
  14. Well, I got a new rod/reel this weekend and went and practiced with it all day yesterday. I for a nice lews 7.1:1 reel and a Heavy rod for T-rigs. Took a little getting used to as far as casting. It's only a 6'6'' rod, I am used to 7' or longer. I am pumped up for this tournament guys. Also, It will be on iAngler.
  15. I am a creature bait addict. But that's just me.
  16. Couldn't agree more. I am trying to acquire 3 more setups before I the tournament. I always tie on the night before, more rods will help with the on the water proficiency.
  17. I use an Anchor Trolley system so I can shift my position very quickly.
  18. It's not the tourney of champions. It's a benefit tournament for Hero's on the Water. They take wounded vets kayak fishing. Great cause and very effective. I am big on organization so that's a habit. I won't be able to pre-fish, but I think that has it's advantages too. Won't distract me from what I am seeing real time. I never use a net and have never lost a fish boatside(knocking on my wooden desk) I am fast with my fish grips. I am very familiar with the CPR format of kayak tournaments. This tournament allows you to use the hand with the identifier to hold the fish down on the board. I also leave my fish hooked until I verify I have a good picture of the fish.
  19. Thanks for the advice guys. I will be power fishing until I get my first 5. After that I am going to try to switch to fun fishing mode, slow down, and enjoy being on Lake Fork a little more. Might eve make a long paddle to another part of the lake.
  20. I recently took a guy fishing at a really good spot on the Trinity River. Just made casual conversation about how crappy it is when people tell the world about your spot. He got the hint and hasn't told anyone.
  21. I'm participating in a tournament at Lake Fork in a few weeks. Never been on the lake, and never fished a big tournament before! This will be fun and exciting! Any tips for kayak tournament fishing?
  22. Last time I cleaned and lubed it was back in May. Although at that time I only used oil, no grease so I think that may be my problem.
