  1. I have an Abu Garcia Black Max reel that really needs to be cleaned and re-greased/oiled. I've done it a few times, but I am not getting the longevity that I should so I must be doing it wrong. I take it apart, clean off the gears, grease them, and then I soak my bearings in grease remover. I clean the and dry them well, then add the new oil. Am I doing something wrong?
  2. Throw a wacky rig senko and see what happens. If you don't get hook ups on that then IDK what to tell you haha.
  3. One thing to consider is how you'll be filming. First person with a head-cam, or third person on a tripod. That is where you start your search. GoPros will be the way to go though so a beginner. I think there are some cheaper alternatives as well. Also look into getting a microphone. No one likes watching a video where you can't hear what the people are saying due to wind noise and distance from the small mic.
  4. If you don't wear your PFD you're taking a completely unnecessary risk. Period. Stay safe my fellow yakers.
  5. Not sure what your budget is but also looking to the Slayer Propel 10 and 13's. They are awesome fishing boats and offer the value of peddle reverse. I have peddled a friend's many times and have to say that it will be my next kayak. I will probably get the 10' version merely for the fact that it is lighter and more agile, but just as stable as the 13.
  6. Agree with the others, she would have to hit that thing pretty hard and at a strange angle. Either way good fish haha!
  7. While fishing the Trinity in Fort Worth I fished a 200 yard stretch using Texas Rigged Havoc Pitt boss green pumpkin with a 1/8oz tungsten. 1st pass w/ no scent caught 3 14-16" LMB. 2nd pass w/ scent caught about 6 15-19" LMB. This was the only test I needed, now I will be using it every time. I was skeptical before as well.
  8. I bet it fishes nice and SLOW!
  9. Save some coin and get a Hobie PA 14 with a trailer
  10. One way to test the stability is to sit in the seat, turn around at the waist like you are getting something from a crate, look up at the sky, and lean backwards(so you back is going towards the water). Your balance will be shot, so if the kayak can handle you doing that you'll be good. As for standing, I think that comes with experience and agility.
  11. I do not. When I bank fish it is at local ponds. I don't go on trips that are this intricate.
  12. I keep my stuff in my vest. I have 2 hoops that I can put my pliers and scissors in so they are very accessible. Any kayaker who doesn't wear his PFD is WRONG. I don't know about you guys but I don't think anyone goes kayak fishing, and plans on drowning.
  13. Welcome! I would look into getting a kayak, definitely helped my fishing game!!!
  14. We are a surprisingly small crowd. And it's people like us that should put that information out there.
  15. I've actually pulled an EYE up with a small crankbait. Guess the bass took a swipe at it and it took his eye off. Bad luck for him and me!
  16. Saw some guys on another forum discussing that the "Turnover" was starting to happen on Lake Fork, but many people were arguing it. All I know is that it's when the surface temp falls below the temp of the deeper water. Have you heard of this theory before? And if so, what advantages does it give the angler?
  17. I'm going to the Trinity River in the wonderful downtown Fort Worth, TX this Sunday and I plan on using rubber skirted jigs. On one bank I have tons of large rocks, rip rap i guess is the term. On the other I have a little more cover; sand, overhanging trees, laydowns. I plan on using a 3/8 oz arky head jig with trailer to swim and hop along the bottom. I'll let you know how it turns out!
  18. Might not want to get an inflatable. We get wet in kayaks, and rain might set it off too.
  19. This is a very nice was to Commemorate a toad. I might be stealing this idea for my first one :] minus the reel, I have less than ten.
  20. I'm addicted to SimCity on my phone right now. Can't seem to put it down.
  21. I get your point. But think of it from an entry level fisherman's POV. How many people are going to go out and get a $250 rod and reel to learn how to fish? Not very many. If you can afford it then great! But realistically, people are going to be searching for cheaper options when they are starting out.
  22. If you like that one you should check out the H20 Xpress Mettle. You can get a combo with the camo Mettle for $100. Definitely competes with my higher end setups.
  23. Thanks guys! And the truck bed extender is my last resort. I would much rather have a trailer that I could keep all of my gear on/in. Just hook up and go to the lake!
