  1. Nice, what size fish were they?
  2. Hmm...good point. I sense a blow dryer in my future.
  3. I stumbled across this website last night, http://strikeon.com/about/ , Im liking their line of rabbit hair tied spinnerbaits and jigs, such as... They also have a variety of common plastics with rabbit fur appendages. What are your thoughts?
  4. Hah, well.....I learned about "catching fisherman" from these forums. Sorry you felt so compelled to write such a needlessly long dissertation about this. Do I sense guilt? Perhaps. Because you completely misprojected my use of the phrase in the context that it was used. Looking back at the post that I responded to, you may notice that the context was very specifically about how the certain qualities and appearances of the bait itself, will lead to more purchases. Well, this is exactly the very definition of "catching fisherman." Which is, nothing more than purchasing baits primarily based on how they appeal to us (regardless of price), more so than how they appeal to the fish. But, instead you have read it to be a criticism about the buying of high end fishing gear. Well done. My comment would've been no different if the bait in question was a cheap $3 specimen. So whats up? Who're the ones that are always giving you a lot of crap for your spending? Wife, parents, siblings?
  5. Agreed totally.
  6. Try one of these....it will hold all your stuff, and you'll look fabulous.
  7. I used to just hang the blade + barrel swivel, onto the bend of the hook, and crimp it down. No need for trimming skirts then.
  8. Ive made ones like that before as well. Looks great, swims great, and it will catch fish for you, for sure. I kinda came away from them just because I didnt find them to be any more productive than plastic trailers, and sometimes lacked versatility found in the plastics. But, I will probably come back to using those again. You should try it with an Indiana blade.
  9. Not really what I was aiming for. I was focused more so on the slowest swim. From there, a slow fall would just come naturally.
  10. And that my friend...is called, catching fishermen.
  11. A pic? dont have one, butl I suppose it doesnt look much different than any other swim jig. Except for testing purposes, Im using this kind of jig instead... http://assets.academy.com/mgen/95/10117095.jpg?is=640,640 So picture that, with a skirt and grub on it.
  12. I kinda figured, if it can swim good at such a slow speed, it keeps it in the strike zone longer. Kalins was the best trailer I could find for this purpose. I swim it just barely above the tail's stall speed. I dont know if its any better than anything else. I just wanted to see what I could come up with.

Everything I own, has been in the water while fishing. Even some things that werent meant to. But I have ONLY caught fish on ONE hardbait (thus far). That being, the Bill Dances Dancin Eel. No joke.
  14. Not really a Frankenbait, but a new idea Ive been tinkering with. I wanted to put together a swim jig, that was configured in a way that would allow me the slowest possible retrieve of any other bait, and still have good action. After several different tryouts, what I arrived at was this.... > 1/8oz long shank jig head (or even 1/16oz > Short cut skirt > 5" Kalins grub trailer. This set up allows the bait to fall slowly, and have excellent action during a fall-asleep-retrieve speed. At least one fish thought it was a good idea so far.
  15. Loving this thing. Small size, yet still casts a mile on MH gear, and is highly eager to get down deep. Super easy to burn, but still functions well during a slow retrieve (maybe not wise for shallow water). Excellent bait, 5/5
  16. Got a couple packs of these on sale for $2.99 to try out. Good deal. But, slightly disappointed with them. The claws wont flap during the fall, even on a 3/8oz jig. I'll still use them, but I was kinda hoping for some better flapping action. Might have to try a 1/2oz jig to speed up the fall....but I kinda prefer a slower fall. Nonetheless....Once on the bottom, it looks great. Stands up nicely, and can display even the most subtle shaking action. Claws are thin enough to work in the water similar to a D-Bomb. Good price, but I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

  18. That being said...I will be the oddball out and say YES, it is primarily a numbers only bait. But once in a while....do have the expectation to be surprised by the catching of a larger fish.
  19. Im gonna go with NO the fish are not deterred.
  20. You guys are no help.
  21. Its not entirely uncommon, to catch an occasional lunker, unexpectedly, on a bait that is either intended for/or appeals to, mostly smaller fish.
  22. Those brands you listed as "Wal Mart" brands, are perfectly fine and highly effective. They are very popular and make a good product, worry not.
  23. Ok, my question was.....do I NEED to fix this? Meaning, are the fish deterred by this smell?
