  1. what he said or whatever you like. I use Quantum almost exclusively but do have powell crankin rods as well. I like a fast 7:1 reel so I can reel slow.
  2. I use 7:1 or 8:1 Quantum Smoke for all reels even for extra deep magnum cranks. Easier to slow down than speed up for me. I have two brands of cranking rods. Quantum KVD and Powell Endurance. There is a new Powell Endurance rod out for $140. I would go with a MH. The 7'5" one. Not too long. not too short and will give you the best all around. Personally, I want a short M or MH rod for squarebills etc and a long Heavy rod for deep divers. Now if you can open your mind a bit then you do not need a cranking rod. I didn't use a crankbait rod for most of my life and never really had any problems until in 2015 I lost a giant at the boat on a square bill that would have had me in first rather than like 50th. If I had a soft rod or mono on I may have landed the fish. That was the turning point for me. I think that a normal fast or extra fast is fine for baits to about 10' but then you had better be using mono to make up for it. plenty of guys out there do fine without a dedicated rod.

Well then just go outfish him. put a flipping hook on a carolina rig and drag it all around and whoop him.

Theresa BOS not too far from where I live. Somehow I always get the idea that what I want they will have in stock. I somehow end up there once a month and almost always leave empty-handed. They just don't carry the brands I like. I could care less about price. That's probably why I'm broke however so. I remember as a kid or teenager going to tons of tackle shops. Seemed like every lake had a good tackle shop fully stocked. I'm no longer in the midwest so maybe those still exist IDk but in AZ and the west coast in general they few and far between.
  6. When I was a teenager I would catch tons of smallies on humdinger spinnerbaits on the Milwaukee river.
  7. Can’t speak for the Vapor but I do have a pile of the new smoke S3 and I like them.
  8. What he said and I personally would even go fish something like the Wisconsin river or other Wisconsin rivers as well. Have caught numerous large smallmouth all over the place in Wisconsin when I lived there. Ashland is a good place but watch the weather. I have been there in May and been blasted by freeing temps and snow.
  9. never had any issues with 832 yellow or fluorescent other than a few break offs while casting (likely due to my fault). Using J braid now and love it. Hi Viz on things like drop shot shakey etc and green on the moving baits. I don’t think line color makes a difference to the fish at all and I fish clear waters. I always watch the line if I can and catch more because I am able to see the line move when I don’t feel the bite.
  10. Thoughts? Too lazy to actually look into this statement bit thought it was interesting, kind of funny and maybe or likely not Lucky Craft is onto something. Noticed a few japanese baits mentioning this actually. "Graphite silicon is the only mineral on Earth that has self-generating power. This self-heating metal is incorporated into Lucky Craft jigs through a series of unique steps, and was developed by combining Lucky Craft’s technology with input from professional anglers. The energy of these graphite silicon jigs stimulates the ‘sixth sense’ that fish possess."
  11. If you can get matt to respond to his emails to book a trip.... on another note i would choose hmmm idk. Tough one. I might choose florida but onyl because ive never been and spent 15 years in california. Dont put off texas or mexico ofr big bass.
  12. Once you have the location just wait and go back. When i see them roaming like that i rarely catch them. As for the lures just throw whatever the conditions dictate.

I think a lot of the old standbys can still be had for dirt cheap at any tackle store in the bargain bin, or for a good price off the rack. You get what you pay for. Sometimes. I too hate paying over $10 for a lure especially since I always buy 2 of every hardbait and 4 of every jig etc and typically order from japan, ebay etc where lures are premium priced.
  15. Plenty. Have caught countless bass on the biwaa. No bass is breaking that.
  16. no bashing just stating the truth from what i can see. anyways if your lure cost less than $10ea. they probably need new hooks. even lucky craft hooks need changing imo. they use lower quality hooks split rings etc so they can sell you the lure at a lower price point and therefore make more sales.
  17. well if I wanted other than what I asked for I certainly would have asked for that. Good job people. Thanks to those that provided a real answer. Pretty sure were getting into the territory of breaking forum rules here now. Anyways, yes, the shad rap is hideous. I'm not denying it's ability to catch fish considering that just about anything can catch a bass. A plain hook, a shiny object, I've seen bass caught on adult toys.
  18. I have a few boxes of them. I just think they're hideous and feel like switching it up to something else.
  19. yes shad shape tight wobble but deeper diving. zenith tackle website? google is failing me. ebay has a couple used ones
  20. Other than rapala shad raps which I already have and am not a huge fan of due to colors I don't like and lack of detail. I like Japanese style hardbaits. I only notice ima has a deep diving shad style bait. Well I guess there's duel as well but I think their colors are not the greatest either. Wish rapala would come out with a shad rap in all sizes in their shadow rap colors. Anyways wondering if people know of any others? I'm crazy picky about lures.
  21. I have found that the hooks work fine but are not all that great. Replace with: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_Aaron_Martens_TGW_Nano_Finesse_Treble_Hook/descpage-NFH.html
  22. ebay. that way its guaranteed and ebay or paypall will give you your money back if something happens. most japanese lures readily available on ebay.
  23. gator trax if you want a good quality boat. any other if you dot care. lund would be my second choice.
  24. Yeah already have normal and larger sizes. I catch a ton on other small lures in clear water so want to try some smaller topwater. I catch dinks on the Sammy 120 .
