  1. A great Jacob Wheeler tip is don't just flip the bait, jig it up and down, and reel it straight back in.. Always swim it or slow roll it back to the boat. Sometimes it can cause a reaction bite that may have passed on the bait on the vertical fall.
  2. Tom, when you say "if the thermocline/life zone is 25' no reason to fish much shallower," do you mean that the bait/bass will be just above the thermocline? Do bass usually go as deep as they can before hitting the thermocline?

See I had no idea this even existed. I thought contrast and brightness was all that were there. No freakin wonder lol

I see the difference now. I did not realize that I needed to set the gain higher. Would the gain be contrast? My garmins have contrast and brightness. Or do they have gain too and I just did not realize it?

If I am fishing my local lake in an area that is say... 20 feet deep. Sometimes I will see the water clear on the sonar down to around 8 feet then from 8-15 feet will be sorta blurry or have faint vertical lines or something and on down towards the bottom. Is the 8-15 feet zone the area your referring the thermocline? So I should concentrate on fishing right above that? So in this case 4-8 feet?

How do you determine how deep to fish? I trust your input.

I have watched all of his videos since he began his channel. He does great work. It just hasn’t clicked for me yet..

All lakes I fish are around 2,000 acres and smaller. Some only 200. I am a very strong with a spinnerbait, SB/Medium Crankbaits, and flipping/pitching jigs around shoreline cover, grassy areas. I have recently gotten better at bluff walls, chuck rock. Even though I can catch fish in 80 ft water, I still consider that bank fishing. I need to learn to fish ledges, humps, and underwater points better in order to take my fishing to a better level. Example, I fished Stonewall Jackson Lake for 12 hrs on Wednesday. It was sunny, low 90s, and periods of a light breeze. Water was stained and hot. high 80s in the fields of standing timber and mid 80s up near the dam. All of my bites came off or near a bluff wall either cranking the walls or on spinnerbaits fishing stumps located just off of a wall. 7 fish for the day all between 1-2lbs. Not gonna cut it. I need to figure out how to turn a 5 fish/8lb bag into a 5 fish/14lb bag.. As we all do. Just frustrated.

to catch fish offshore better.. That’s all their is to it.. When the shallow bite isn’t there.. I’m beat.
  10. Me too lol
  11. Green Pumpkin jig with black trailer.. I’m a big believer in contrasting colors.. unless the water is gin clear with 10-15 ft visibility
  12. He did a seminar for Navionics where he explains it pretty well..
  13. Red Crawfish is deadly for smallmouth around rocks
  14. I like Tranlucent for sunny and white or black for cloudy
  15. Headed to Stonewall for a getaway trip on Thursday with the wifey. How’s the lake right now? Looking to get out on Thursday afternoon and Sat morning. Any particular area biting hot right now? Any particular types of lures hot? Looking for feedback from a local or two...
  16. If it were me I would probably cut the games of "show me the best you can do". With the current situation they are going to want to sell boats and move inventory. I would take the $5K down that you have and figure out a price I want to pay and go in and straight up tell the dealer - I have this much down and this is what I want to finance for this boat... Get out a little black book for a prop. Get it out and take notes in it while discussing it. If they don't take the offer then flip that book closed and put it away then thank them for their time and tell them you'll buy from the next dealer.... They will more than likely call you back in within 48 hours to offer you the price you requested.... That little effect does wonders.....
  17. Submerge the unit into a big bowl of dry rice for a few days and then see if it turns on. That's an under the table iphone trick from Apple if you drop your iphone into water......
  18. That is it my friend
  19. Just FYI my local Walmart had a Eagle Claw Laser Sharp Bass Kit today consisting of 8-12 each of 3/0 EWG, 4/0 EWG, 5/0 EWG, 4/0 Worm Hooks, 1/4 Screw Lock Swimbait Hooks, 1/8 Screw Lock Swimbait Hooks, Wacky Hooks, Dropshot Hooks, 1/8 3/16 and 1/4 Cylinder Dropshot Weights and the same in bullet worm weights, glass and plastic beads, swivels, and rubber bobber stops for $9.97.. I picked one up.. Didn’t really need it but it looks like a heck of a deal to me..
  20. I have a 2007 50 HP 2-Stroke...Just make sure you get the three intake screws (one for each carburator) dialed in so that the amount of air it's taking in isn't too rich or too lean. When I first got mine I got it from a guy who kept it in his garage for a couple of years without running it much. It would run great but would die when idling almost like it was running out of fuel. It would cough a lot (crack and pop) during idle. The easiest way is to tighten them fully and then open them up in 1/8 turns until you get it right. I have mine set to where it idles right at 1000 rpms on the water muffs which is about 850 submerged in water. She idles like a cat's pur and hasn't stalled out or sneezed once... Just don't get them too rich to where it idles any higher than that because you can blow a power head if they are opened too much.... Looking at the back of the motor (exhaust side) they should be located on the left side of the carbs near the top. It will be a tiny flat head screw with a spring behind the head.
  21. Well I did use an impact driver lol and it’s the big Garmin transducer.. You reckin that caused the crack?? There was a noticeable rooster tail too.
  22. If you saved your own quickdraw data onto a micro card then yes you can copy it or whatever you want because it's your data. You cannot duplicate a Lakeview Chip because it's copywrited. If you saved your quickdraw data onto a chip with Lakeview then you cannot copy it that I am aware of.
  23. I know this looks like an electronics question, but it's sort of on the fence so I am gonna post it here. My aluminum boat has a crack in the weld right underneath where my Garmin GT transducer is mounted (the long gray one). I think it has been causing unnecessary stress on the hull in that spot due to the bulkiness of the transducer. I am in the process of getting the weld fixed so I am looking at two options to try to prevent the situation of reoccurring. Should I mount a small cut of plywood into the hull and mount the transducer on that in order to take the stress off of the aluminum or should I move the transducer farther towards the side of the boat to move it away from the flex/stress point? Would that cause further problems? Seeking advice. Edit: I just became aware of a product called stern saver that is a little block designed just for this... Do any of you recommend this product?
  24. Well here goes.. Planned to travel to fish a lake in Virginia that is located about 2 hrs from my house.. Left at 7 and planned on getting to the water around 9am to fish til dark on Sat evening.. Was about 30 min away from the lake and the dreaded stomach makes the sound.. No big deal so I pull off at the next exit.. The only thing around is a McDonald so I tell myself RR break and breakfast no big deal.. I get there and it’s doors locked/drive thru only.. So I say ok I’ll just go at the ramp.. Get to the ramp and there are 100 trailers there.. Sat morning tourny.. Great... I prep the boat for launch and walk over and the bathrooms are locked up.. Great.. Trip to the woods.. So I launch.. Been on the water without a sniff of a bite.. going thru my checklist and BAM.. There pops the Game Wardens.. LUCKILY everything was good.. They check my license and safety equipment and all checks out... Have a good day sir.. Fish 2 more hours.. No bites.. Fish the next 4 hours.. No bites.. Pull up on a small boat with a dude and his girl early 20s in a small john boat.. The girl catches 2 fish right as I pass by.. I change lures to what she throws.. Nothing for 30 minutes.. Here is where it gets ugly.. I crank up to ride down the lake and the motor won’t turn over.. Dead Cranking Battery.. I open my bilge to try to jump start from my trolling battery and both batteries are halfway under water.. What the crap.. I start pumping gallon after gallon of water out...After an hour’s troll I make it back to another ramp that is halfway up the lake away from where I launched... I had to tie my boat off and bum a 20 min ride from some kid to the other ramp to get my truck to drive back to load my boat up.. I left the pump on to keep the water out while I’m gone so I have to troll the nose up to the trailer and get out in the water in my clothes to load my boat up.. When I get the boat loaded and pull the plug I noticed a big crack in the hull in the seem of the weld on the right side of the transom.. I say F this day and make the 2 hour drive home... Finally get the boat parked and as I walk around to plug my charger in to recharge my dead batteries I notice my stupid trailer license plate apparently blew off somewhere along the way home... What a freaking day.. all for not a single bite..
