I've fished the prickly pear and uni in green pumpkin and black, and the maxscent moeba in red. I fished the prickly pear yesterday for 6 hours and never got a bite....slayed them on the dropshot though... I'm still yet to catch my first urchin bass
  2. Some days the neko hook and 1/4oz is the ticket but man when it gets tough tough the lighter 3/16oz on the medium light gets bites when nothing else does due to the lighter splash and noise.. maybe that’s my answer right there
  3. Between the medium light with a circle dropshot hook vs a medium heavy with a neko hook… Ive used both and caught fish with both but I can’t seem to feel comfortable with one over the other…
  4. I typically go with the Nekorama with a 1/32 oz or 1/16 oz tungsten nail weight and the Geecrack Neko Hack with 8lb braid/8lb flour leader and if I need to downsize or finesse it a little more I'll use the same setup except switch to the Berkley Maxscent Hit Worm or a 5 inch Maxscent General
  5. I've had it three years now.... I use it every time I fish whether deep or shallow... I was always a power fisherman and never really finesse fished but now it's sort of molded me into a finesse fisherman with a little power fishing mixed in. My #1 bait tied on year round regardless of season is the jighead minnow. When it's on, there is nothing to me more deadly... It helps me find fish more consistently and eliminate dead water more efficiently... I don't really tournament fish that much but if I did it's all I would use because you really cannot beat it on a daily basis... especially at the grassroots level...
  6. I'm gonna go with a 3/16 oz tungsten drop shot weight, a size 1 dropshot hook, and the Berkley Flat Nose Minnow
  7. So in a tournament situation most of you would go shallow and flip? What would you flip in ultra clear water? Ultra clear water what would you choose the dropshot? Lighter line small dropshot hooks and smaller minnow profiled finesse baits?

you got that right.. Seriously though how are you guys catching fish on these things.. I know people are.. I’ve done the jerk, jerk pause retrieve.. i’ve tried it all.. it just doesn’t click with me yet for some reason…
  9. How are you triggering bass on highland reserviors during the afternoons this time of year with recreational boat traffic on the lake too?

Man I’ve thrown the Yamamato Uni, the Hags Prickly Pear, and the Berkley Maxscent Moeba on three different lakes up shallow and over suspended bass.. in green, black, and red.. light weight and 3/8oz weights.. I can’t trigger a bite to save my life.. What gives? lol
  11. This hits towards home my daughter is 14 just finishing first year of high school..... Your girl is a beautiful young lady good luck to her future and bless you for being a wonderful father to her.... and good luck to you as well sir
  12. My man..... Glenn......Thanks buddy for everything you do...
  13. I think in the highland reservoirs I fish the jighead minnow just fits things better.... Most of the cruising fish especially in the summer are in the 15-20ft range on average..... the 1/8 oz jighead seems to be the ticket if it's calm or the fish aren't moving quick.... and the 3/16 oz casts better and falls a little quicker in wind or when fish are swimming around... I know a lot of southern waters are shallower and dirtier and that's where maybe the jerkbait would shine a little better drawing reaction strikes.... in my lakes it seems you have to finesse them a little more by putting the minnow right over their heads but they get spooked really easily if you give it too much action.... they almost like to see it.... follow it.... sniff it.... and then the moment of truth they'll either eat it or turn away slowly... very rarely do they just crush it..... it happens on occasion but not very often
  14. Bass on baitballs - Jighead Minnow and Flutter Spoon Bass cruising bank shoreline to 12ft - Ned Rig and Wacky Rig Bass on brush or ledges 12ft -25ft - Deep Diving Cranks, Jigs, Dropshot Most of my lakes thermocline around 25ft so I rarely fish deeper than that
  15. Most of my local waters hold largemouth and smallmouth bass... it's funny cause the green pumpkin seems to draw largemouth bites and the coppertruse draws smallmouth bites.... man them smallies love them some chartreuse..
  16. What plastic and color do you guys go with.. ive been using the berkley half head and the crush city blt in green pumpkin
  17. I try to utilize three baits for brush piles..... sunny, clear, calm, finesse conditions etc.. I'll make long casts past the brush with a texas rigged drop shot........ usually a 1/4 oz and a #1 finesse neko hook..... next I'll throw a 3/4 oz jig... again throw past it and let it fall and slowly drag it into and through the brush..... lastly I'll burn a deep crankbait for a reaction strike..... dropshot jig crankbait If it overcast, windy, power fishing conditions I'll will go through the same three but in reverse order.. crankbait jig dropshot I've never won a tournament with this process but I've caught a good amount of fish from brush doing this...
  18. 15-25 ft..... sometimes 30+
  19. #2 VMC wacky hook.... i find that the neko hooks get swallowed too easily and the wacky hook usually hooks up right int he top of the mouth
  20. What size weight are you guys using for deep smallmouth in highland lakes with deep drops? Any particular types of soft plastics you guys are using for Neds?

Going slightly heavier sure made a difference on that day.... and I would have never thought about it... In fact, I never really fished a Ned Rig that much because I was sorta discouraged away from it.... I had always thrown a 1/16 or 1/10oz before today. I could see throwing a 3/16 or 1/4 now in 20+ feet this summer..
  22. Man I just can't seem to figure it out. I've caught fish on the jighead minnow, finesse swimbaits, neko rigs, ned rigs, flutter spoons, but I just can't seem to find a system with a jerkbait that works for suspended bass. I have tried the deepest divers I can find, wrapped lead wire around the hooks, tried suspend dots, you name it I've done it. I fish deep highland reserviors and a lot of suspended fish seem to hold around 15-20 ft and I just can't get jerkbaits down that far. I've tried Berkley Stunna +1 and +2 models, Rapala Maverick Deep, and Bill Lewis Scope Stiks.... someone help me out lol My biggest issue is getting the bait down deep enough...
  23. Cold Water 55 or colder - Steep Side Warm Water 55 or warmer - Shallow Side If either of those have a transition area where it goes from steep to shallow or shallow to steep those are the juice spots

Giving you guys a report from yesterday.... I started off fishing a 3/16 and caught a really nice keeper and a small non-keeper... but noticed I kept digging up a lot of vegetation with it, so I dropped down to a 1/8 just to see if it made it through a little better and it did.... I think I caught another 15, both largemouth and smallmouth included on the 1/8 in about 4 hours... all came in 8-12 ft near main lake points and secondary points outside of spawning pockets.. I used the Berkley Half Head with a Crush City BLT in Green Pumpkin... That's definitely a better day than I was having throwing 1/16 and 1/10 oz ones.....
  25. he probably means for suspended bass.... jighead minnow, jerkbaits, neko rigs, etc....
